Product Usage Instructions

  1. Screw in the side brackets from outside the air handler. Use the dimples on the cabinet exterior or the existing holes to properly position the side brackets.
  2. Screw in the front and back brackets from inside the cabinet to the side brackets.
  3. Slide the indoor coil into the air handler, making sure it sits on top of the brackets.
  4. After the indoor coil is installed inside the air handler cabinet, apply the insulation material provided in the kit to the inside of the close off door. Make holes in the insulation as needed for copper tubes before gluing it to the close off door.
  5. Pass the copper tubing through the hole of the close off door provided in the kit and secure it with screws and plastic nuts from the existing air handler close off door.
  6. Braze the TXV, suction, and liquid lines. Install the TXV bulb on the horizontal part of the suction line. If needed, it can be installed on the suction line outside the cabinet. Wrap the bulb with insulation material.
  7. For proper piping design considerations, refer to the installation instruction for the indoor coil and condensing unit being used.
  8. Make a hole for the drain line in the air handler main door and pass the drainpipe through it. Refer to the provided dimensions for the estimated location of the drain line hole.
  9. After the indoor coil is installed inside the air handler cabinet, rotate the whole door 180 degrees clockwise and install the existing close off door on the unit. Cut a 5 x 5.5 square hole for suction and liquid lines. Use the provided template on page 5 for the size of the square cut out and hole locations.

INTRODUCTION

  • The intend of this document is to provide instruction to install Nortek Global HVAC indoor coils in FED model air handlers with electric heat (17” wide cabinet B and 21” wide cabinet C). For more information regarding indoor coils, please check installation instructions for C74XXX and C84XXX coils. These coils are for manufactured housing application only.
  • HUD Manufactured Home Construction and Safety Standard Section 3280.714, paragraph (a) and subparagraph (4) and (5) clearly specifies when a cooling or heat pump coil and air conditioner blower are installed with a furnace or heating appliance they shall be tested and listed in combination for heating and safety performance by a nationally recognized testing agency. Additionally, the HVAC equipment to be installed in Manufactured Housing shall be certified, listed, and rated based on US Department of Energy test procedures which are listed by AHRI and shall be tested and listed in combination for cooling, heating, and safety by a nationally recognized testing agency.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION

Follow the next steps to install C74 and C84 indoor coils into the air handlers:

  1. Screw in the side brackets from outside the air handler. Use the dimples on cabinet exterior or the existing holes to properly position the side brackets (Figure 1).

  2. Screw in the front and back brackets from inside the cabinet to the side brackets (Figures 2 & 3).

  3. Slide the indoor coil into the air handler, and make sure it sits on the top of brackets (Figures 4 & 5).

C74 Coil

  • After indoor coil is installed inside the air handler cabinet, apply the insulation material provided in the kit to the inside of close off door, make holes in the insulation as needed for copper tubes before gluing it to the close off door. Pass the copper tubing through the hole of the close off door provided in the kit as shown below and secure it with screws and plastic nuts from the existing air handler close off door.
  • Braze the TXV, suction and liquid lines. Install the TXV bulb on the horizontal part of suction line (if needed it can be installed on the suction line outside the cabinet). At the end, wrap the bulb with insulation material. Refrigerant piping is critical on any coil installation. For proper piping design considerations, refer to the installation instruction for indoor coil and condensing unit being used. (Figures 6 & 7)

  • Pass the copper tubing through the close off door from the kit. Apply the gasket provided to seal the close of door for any possible leaks and screw it to the main door with self-tap screws provided in the kit, use the drawing shown below for locating holes’ locations. Braze the TXV, suction and liquid lines.
