  • Sewing machine with ¼” foot and other accessories (cord, foot pedal, extension table, and knee lift)
  • Size 70/10 Microtex Sharp sewing needles
  • Quiltworx pattern including the instructions and foundation papers

  • Rotary cutters with new blades (it is helpful to have 3 sizes available) – 60 mm for cutting fabric – 45 mm for cutting templates – 28 mm for trimming
  • Medium sized cutting mat to do your trimming at your sewing station
  • A piece of template plastic (3”x12” works well)
  • Quilter’s Select or Creative Grid ruler for cutting fabric and templates (24”x6” or 6 1/2” works well)
  • 12” Add-A-Quarter ruler
  • UHU craft glue stick
  • Sewline or Quilter’s Select glue pen (having a pack of glue refills is helpful)
  • Purple Thang
  • Thread scissors (Havel’s or Kai work well)
  • Black Sharpie
  • Seam ripper

  • Jumbo paper clips

To eliminate waiting for an iron in the classroom, we suggest that students bring a travel iron and a wool pressing mat (at least 17″ x 17″). We recommend the Mighty Steam Iron by Dritz, Steamfast Travel Steam Iron, or the Oliso Mini Project Iron. All of these in stock at The Quilt Crossing.

Pre-Class Instructions

Please read the instructions for your pattern completely through at least one time before class. This will help to ensure you understand the cutting information. It is strongly encouraged that you have the papers, templates, and fabrics for the entire project cut out, placed in bags, and ready to use in class. Check the Quiltworx website for pattern corrections before you begin the project. Corrections can be found at this link: http://www.quiltworx.com/corrections/
Quiltworx YouTube Videos: Judy Niemeyer has many videos on YouTube that cover a variety of topics. If you are a very visual person these can be an invaluable resource to give you some additional background or refresh your memory after class on a topic. A few videos you may find useful include:

Fabric Selection

If you need help with fabric selection, feel free to work with the ladies at The Quilt Crossing.
Check out Pinterest or www.quiltworx.com for many photos of finished projects.

Foundation Papers: The cutting instructions for the Foundation Papers and Template Layout Sheets will generally be described at the beginning of the pattern. As you cut these out the pieces will be organized into bags.

Fabric Cutting Instructions: Cutting instructions may appear in two ways. For older patterns, all fabric cutting may be listed at the start of the pattern. For later patterns, fabric cutting may be done as you work on a set of units. In either case, bag the papers and fabrics as noted in the pattern to stay organized. If you have any questions regarding the class preparation, please contact me directly at: 208-5703290.
We appreciate it when you buy your class supplies from us – these purchases enable us to offer a robust class schedule and keep your dollars local.
Cancellation Policy: We must commit to our teachers and to other students one week before the class begins so we can’t give refunds or transfers after that time (unless we can fill your spot from the waiting list). You are welcome to send someone in your place if you are unable to come. If enrollment has not met the minimum required for the class, we will cancel it one week before the first session. We love your kids, but your fellow students left theirs at home and hope you will too.
