CLEANING THE EXTERIOR
We recommended rinsing a soft cloth in water and liquid detergent. Wring dry
before wiping surfaces dry. For better results, you can use high quality
cleaning and protection products (eg. Steel Kleen) to clean your range hood.
- The recommended detergent is a solution of water and a neutral liquid soap.
- It is very important for the liquid soap to not contain granules that could scratch the surface.
- First apply the solution to a soft cloth and then rub the cloth over the range hood. It is important to follow the direction of the surface with the cloth (refer to figure on left).
- Do not pour any liquid directly on to the range hood.
- The cloth must have no buttons, zips or fasteners that could scratch the surface.
- Chemical solvents, aggressive, grainy or abrasive products, naphtha, alcohol or similar products that could damage the surface of the range hood should not be used.
- The manufacturer will not be held responsible for functional or aesthetic damage caused by cleaning with products which are not suitable or using inadequate cleaning methods.
FILTERS
For this range hood to function effectively, regular maintenance is a must.
- The function of the filter is to absorb the airborne grease particles from cooking.
- Clogged mesh filters and heavy oil deposits in baffles restrict airflow, cause leaks onto the cooktop and may cause the motor to overheat and become a fire hazard.
- Filters should be cleaned every 3–6 weeks or after 40 hours of use.
- For induction cooktops, aim to clean filters at least every 10 days, depending on use.
- Filters and baffles can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher.
- Washing by hand: Immerse the filter in hot water and a suitable detergent and when clean, rinse with plenty of hot water.
- Dishwasher: Put the filter in the dishwasher and select a short program at low to mid temperature.
Please make sure the filters are completely dry before placing them back in position and using the rangehood.

Installation
OVERHEAD CABINET RANGEHOOD INSTALLATION POSITION
The installation height and position of your range hood will affect its
performance. Schweigen recommends the range hood be installed as close to the
front of the cabinetry as possible. This will increase extraction efficiency
as there will be greater coverage of the cooktop surface area.
As the diagram below shows, if deeper overhead cabinetry is built, and the
range hood is installed to the front of the cabinetry, a greater amount of air
is extracted.
Please see the next page for Schweigen’s recommended height for best
performance.
RANGEHOOD SIZE VS COOKTOP SIZE
To ensure optimal functionality and air extraction, the correct sized range
hood must be installed. As the diagram below highlights, the larger the range
hood the better the air extraction. At a minimum, the range hood should be as
wide as the cooking zone. A larger range hood will ensure the best extraction
for all burners.
IMPORTANT
In addition to the information in this manual, please check all relevant state
requirements for minimum–maximum heights, as well as regulations regarding the
expelling of air. Schweigen is not liable if your range hood is not installed
in accordance with these legal requirements.
IMPORTANT
If the user decides to install the range hood at a distance of less than
minimum height above the cooking surface, Schweigen declines responsibility
for any damage suffered by the range hood due to excess heat or damage to
objects, people and others caused directly or indirectly by a malfunction,
breakage or fire.
RANGEHOOD INSTALLATION HEIGHT
It is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED that the range hood be installed centrally over the
cooktop. This will greatly improve its performance.
Minimum height from the cooktop surface to the underside face of the range
hood:
- 600mm electric cooktop
- 600mm gas cooktop
Any installation above 800mm will compromise the extraction performance.
Note: If the instructions for the gas cooktop specify a greater distance,
this must be taken into account.
IMPORTANT
Measurements are from the top of the trivets to the lowest part of the
rangehood, including the button controls.
RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION HEIGHT FOR INDUCTION COOKTOP
To help avoid condensation, particular to cooking with an induction cooktop,
Schweigen recommends a height between 700-750mm. Refer to page 22 for further
information.
MOUNTING SYSTEM
This undermount range hood utilizes a unique mounting system. Using a
specially designed spring bracket system, the range hood sits on a ledge in
the cabinetry and locks itself securely. Please ensure that materials used in
the cabinetry can support the weight of the range hood.
Screws A & B secure the bracket to the rangehood.
Screw C adjusts the level of the range hood to the cabinetry base.
Screw D extends the spring bracket to secure the range hood to the cabinetry
MOUNTING POSITION
The range hood can be installed either Proud or Flush mounted. The diagrams
below show how the cabinetry will need to be constructed for each option. It
is best to send the rangehood to your cabinet maker to ensure the correct fit.

OPTIONAL BACK OUTLET CONFIGURATION
For installations with limited room above the rangehood, the rangehood can be
reconfigured
with the outlet on the back of the unit. Primarily this suits new buildings
where adjustments to walls can be made – older houses may have limited space
between the wall and rangehood.
The repositioning must be done prior to the range hood being installed into
the cabinetry.

DUCTING
PLEASE DO NOT CRUSH OR KINK THE DUCTING
- Crushed or kinked ducting or ducting with sharp corners create turbulence. This reduces the size and efficiency of the ducting, lowers extraction and can cause excessive noise.
- Sweeping curves and taut ducting reduces resistance and turbulence. The airflow and extraction will be more efficient and stronger.

Condensation Information
COOKING WITH INDUCTION COOKTOPS
Cooking with an induction or similar cooktop, may produce condensation on the
range hood.
Unlike basic electric or gas cooking, induction cooktops heat food and liquid
instantly, which in turn, produces vapors rapidly. Because of this rapid
process the range hood filters do not have enough time to warm, which
increases the chance of condensation forming.
There are many variables that may contribute to condensation forming, some of
which include but are not limited to:
- Variance in climate – geographical location.
- Position of your home & kitchen – morning/afternoon sun.
- Installation distance from cooktop to the range hood.
- Speed of food and liquid heating.
- Filter size – larger canopy preferred.
- Quality of pots or cookware you are using –high quality recommended.
HOW TO REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF CONDENSATION FORMING:
- Ensure the range hood is installed by a qualified professional, carefully following the installation guide.
- Turn on the range hood 5–10 minutes prior to cooking, and leave on for 5–10 minutes after cooking; this helps clear remaining vapours from the flue.
- Start the cooking process at a low-to-medium setting and allow time for the rang hood to warm up.
- Clean filters regularly.
- Ensure constant airflow in the cooking zone; this helps optimize the rate of extraction.
- Follow all induction cooktop manufacturer advice.
For further advice, tips or information regarding cooking with induction, please contact your induction cooktop manufacturer.
