Preparing the Blank:
- Start by squaring off the pen blank ends using an 8mm barrel trimmer or a universal pen blank squaring jig with a power disc sander.
- Apply glue evenly inside the blank by making a twisting motion with the pen kit.
- Trim down the excess material using the barrel trimmer, making sure not to trim beyond the length of the brass tube as it may interfere with the pen’s operation and assembly.
- Clean the inside of the tube using a barrel trimmer.
Turning the Blank:
Refer to Diagram B for turning the blanks.
- Place the tip bushing (smaller), center bushing, and cap bushing (larger) onto the mandrel.
- Insert the lower blank (shorter) and upper blank (longer) onto the mandrel, aligning them with the bushings.
- Tighten the knurled nut to secure the components in place.
- Insert the live center point into the mandrel dimple and lock it in place.
- Turn the blank on a lathe to shape it according to your desired profile.
Assembly:
Refer to Diagram D for parts layout.
- Attach the lower tube and upper tube to the respective ends of the turned blank.
- Secure the assembly by tightening the cap nut.
- Insert the spring into the lower tube, ensuring that the tapered side of the spring goes on the refill first.
- Attach the refill to the twist mechanism.
- Finally, attach the clip to complete the assembly of the Music Twist Pen.
Usage Instruction
Using Press Jig:
Refer to Diagram E for press jig instructions.
The press jig is used to press over delicate coupler threads on kits like the Music pen.
- Slide the press jig over the coupler and press it into the lower barrel.
- Ensure that the black keys are on the upper side of the band.
- The jig will press against the rim of the coupler, securing it in place.
Note:
It is important to follow the provided diagrams and instructions for
successful assembly and usage of the Music Twist Pen Kit.
Kit Features
- Easy to turn with straight tubes
- Minimum parts – easy to assemble
- Available in multiple finishes
- Overall Length: 5-1/2”
- Uses standard Parker® style refills
- Tube size: 8mm
Required Accessories
- 7mm Pen Mandrel
- Drill Bit: 8mm #PKPARK-8MM
- Bushing set(3 pc +1): #PKMUSBU (includes #PKPRJ8MM)
- Barrel Trimming set: #PKTRIM8

Preparing the Blank
- Cut 2 blanks to the length of the tubes and add 1/16” for squaring off.
- Drill 8mm holes lengthwise through the blanks.
- Spread glue over the tube(s), and insert the blank with a twisting motion to spread the glue evenly inside.
- Center the tubes lengthwise inside the blanks.
- When the glue is dry, square the ends of the blanks. Use a 8mm barrel trimmer, or a universal pen blank squaring jig with a power disc sander. Take the excess material down flush with the ends of the brass tube. (do not trim beyond the length of the tube since this may interfere with the operation of the mechanism and assembly). Use a barrel trimmer to clean the inside of the tube.
Turning the Blank
- Mount the bushings and blanks according to Diagram B.
DIAGRAM B/TURNING THE BLANKS
- Thread on the knurled nut and hand tighten to hold all components in place.
- Slide the tailstock up snugly against the mandrel shaft insert the live center point into the mandrel dimple, and lock it in place.
- Hand-tighten the quill adjustment to firm up the mandrel. (DO NOT overtighten or it could damage the mandrel.)
- Using sharp tools, turn the blank down close to the bushing diameter. Turn the barrel (straight or to a profile of your choice)
- Sand the blank down to be flush with the bushings gradually increasing the sandpaper grits.
- Finish the barrel with your choice of polish. Allow sufficient time for the polish to cure. Refer to Polish instructions.
