Added Functions
The Z 7II/Z 6II Reference Manual is for “C” firmware version 1.40.
This supplement details the new features and changes introduced with camera
“C” firmware versions 1.50 and 1.60.
The two documents are to be read together.
“Firmware Version”
To view the camera firmware version or update the camera firmware, select
[Firmware version] in the setup menu.
Updates can be performed using a computer or smart device.

Computer: Check the Nikon Download Center for new versions of the camera firmware. Information on performing updates is available via the firmware download page.

Smart device: If the smart device has been paired with the camera using the SnapBridge app, the app will automatically notify you when updates become available, and you can then download the update to the camera memory card via the smart device. For information on performing updates, see SnapBridge online help. Note that automatic notifications may not be displayed at exactly the same time as the updates are made available on the Nikon Download Center.
Features Available with “C” Firmware Version 1.50
New “USB” Option
A [USB] option has been added to the setup menu. With this addition, an iPhone
running the NX MobileAir smartphone app can now import pictures from a camera
connected via a USB cable.

Select [MTP/PTP] when connecting to computers or Android devices.

Select [iPhone] only when connecting to iPhones via a thirdparty USB-C to Lightning cable in order to use NX MobileAir (for information on compatible USB-C to Lightning cables, see the online help for NX MobileAir).

Whether or not the camera is connected to an iPhone, selecting [iPhone] will disable the features listed below. To access these features, select [MTP/PTP].

– supplying power to the camera or charging the battery via USB (you will also not be able to supply power to the camera or charge the battery using an optional charging AC adapter) -
The NX MobileAir app is available from the Apple App Store® and Google Play™.
New Optional Remote Grip
The camera now supports the optional MC-N10 remote grip.
When connected to the camera, the MC-N10 can be used for such tasks as movie
shooting, photography, and adjusting camera settings.
- The MC-N10 comes equipped with a rosette for attachment to third-party camera equipment. With the MC-N10 mounted on third-party camera equipment via an ARRI-compatible rosette adapter, you can keep moving subjects in focus while panning the camera to track their motion, or use its conveniently- placed controls to adjust settings such as exposure and white balance without touching the camera.

Features Available with “C” Firmware Version 1.60
“Prioritize Viewfinder” Monitor Modes
The [Prioritize viewfinder] monitor mode has been replaced by [Prioritize
viewfinder (1)] and [Prioritize viewfinder (2)].
- In [Prioritize viewfinder (1)] mode, the viewfinder turns on only when you look through it. This behavior is identical to that for [Prioritize viewfinder] in earlier versions of the camera “C” firmware.
- In [Prioritize viewfinder (2)] mode, the viewfinder will turn on both when you look through it and also for a few seconds after the camera is turned on, the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, or the AF-ON button is pressed.
- The [Prioritize viewfinder] option for [Limit monitor mode selection] in the setup menu has also been replaced by [Prioritize viewfinder (1)] and [Prioritize viewfinder (2)] options.
- If [Prioritize viewfinder (1)] or [Prioritize viewfinder (2)] is selected when the monitor is tilted, putting your eye to the camera will not trigger the viewfinder.
New Preview Settings for Flash Photography
[Always] and [Only when flash is not used] have been added to the options
available for Custom Setting d9 [Apply settings to live view] > [On].

Pressing 2 when [On] is highlighted
displays [Always] and [Only when flash is not used] options.
• [Always]: The effects of settings are also visible when a flash unit is
attached and ready to fire.
– This setting is recommended when the display is used for adjustments to
background exposure.
– The main subject may appear dark in the shooting display.
• [Only when flash is not used]: Display brightness is adjusted for ease of
viewing (as per [Off]) when a flash unit is attached and ready to fire. The
effects of settings on colors are visible regardless.
[Off]| • The effects of changes to settings such as white balance, Picture
Controls, and exposure compensation are not visible in the shooting display.
Color, brightness, and
other settings are adjusted for ease of viewing during prolonged periods of
use.
• A icon will appear in the shooting display.
New Custom Setting: d10 “Warm Display Colors”
A [Warm display colors] option has been added to the Custom Settings menu at position d10. Use warmer colors with reduced brightness in the shooting, menu, and/or playback displays. This makes the displays easier to view with vision adapted to dark environments during astronomical photography and the like.

• [Mode 1]: Use warmer colors in the shooting, menu, and playback displays.
• [Mode 2]: Use warmer colors in the menu display. Warmer colors are also used
for the icons and other information in the shooting and playback displays, but
not for the view through the lens or the content of pictures themselves.
• [Off]: Warm colors are not used.
[Warm color display brightness]| Press or to adjust warm color display
brightness.
Choose higher values for increased brightness, lower values for reduced
brightness.
New Custom Setting: d11 “Image Frame”
An [Image frame] option has been added to the Custom Settings menu at position
d11. Select [Off] to hide the white border around the shooting displays in the
monitor and viewfinder.
Custom Settings Renumbered
With the addition of Custom Settings d10 [Warm display colors] and d11 [Image
frame], the [Framing grid display], [Focus peaking], and [View all in
continuous mode] Custom Settings have been renumbered as shown.
New Custom Setting: g7 “Red REC Frame Indicator”
A [Red REC frame indicator] option has been added to the Custom Settings menu at position g7. If [On] is selected, a red border will appear around the shooting display while movie shooting is in progress. This helps prevent missed shots by alerting you when recording is in progress.
Custom Setting Renumbered
With the addition of [Red REC frame indicator] in the g7 position, [Assign
MB-N11 buttons] is now numbered g8.
New Option for the Setup Menu: “Finder Display Size (Photo Lv)”
A [Finder display size (photo Lv)] option has been added to the setup menu.
Choose a magnification for the viewfinder display from [Standard] and [Small].
Selecting [Small] makes it easier to see the entire subject.
