These lamps are intended to retrofit surface mount, Type IC or non-IC recessed mount Listed fluorescent luminaires that use maximum 4 straight tubular lamps with minimum fixture volume of 47.8 inches long x 23.8 inches wide x 3.9 inches deep where minimum socket spacing is 4.3 inches apart. These lamps are intended to retrofit surface mounted Listed fluorescent luminaires without diffuser that use maximum 6 straight tubular lamps where minimum socket spacing is 2.2 inches apart.

DUAL MODE TYPE A/B LAMPS MAY BE OPERATED ON A BALLAST (UL TYPE A) OR 120-277V AC MAINS (UL TYPE B). VERIFY CONFIGURATION BEFORE SERVICING. FOR OPERATION ON A BALLAST (UL TYPE A), SEE  BELOW. FOR OPERATION ON 120-277V AC MAINS (UL TYPE B), SEE NEXT PAGE.

The technical and safety requirements of the converted luminaire are the sole responsibility of the party doing the conversion and shall comply with the local applicable safety and regulatory laws and standards. The provided Caution label should be placed onto the converted luminaire to indicate if the luminaire has been modified and can no longer be used with conventional fluorescent lamps.

Symbol R is a number representing CRI; XX are numbers representing CCT, @ may be any character(s) representing additional lamp features

The lamps listed above may be used with a compatible ballast (UL Type A) or as part of a retrofit kit operated on the branch circuit (UL Type B).

Operation on a Ballast (UL Type A)

CAUTION

RISK OF FIRE – Use only in place of fluorescent lamps specified on label. If the lamp or luminaire exhibits undesirable operation (buzzing, flickering, etc.), immediately turn OFF power, remove lamp from luminaire and contact manufacturer. Do not install this lamp in a pre-heat luminaire. This lamp only operates on electronic ballasts. If lamp does not light when the luminaire is energized, remove lamp from luminaire and contact lamp manufacturer or qualified electrician. This device is not evaluated for use with emergency exits.
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK – Suitable for damp locations

Installation Instructions for Operation on a Ballast

  1. Ensure power is off to luminaire by disconnecting the supply voltage.

  2. Remove existing lamps.

  3. Install the retrofit kit Caution label in an easy to see location and mark accordingly that the lamps are being operated on a ballast.

  4. Install the LED Tubes.

  5. Re-apply power to fixture and ensure proper operation.

Maintenance/Lamp Replacement

Operation on 120-277V AC Mains (UL Type B)

WARNING

RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK – LED Retrofit Kit installation requires knowledge of luminaire electrical systems. If not qualified, do not attempt installation. Contact a qualified electrician. Install this kit only in luminaries that have the construction features and dimensions shown in the drawings and where the input rating of the retrofit kit does not exceed the input rating of the luminaire. To prevent wiring damage or abrasion, do not expose wiring to edges of sheet metal or other sharp objects. Installers should not disconnect existing wires from lampholder terminals to make new connections at lampholder terminals. Instead installers should cut existing lampholder leads away from the lampholder and make new electrical connections to the lampholder lead wires by employing applicable connectors (or replace with new shunted lamp holders). THE RETROFIT KIT IS ACCEPTED AS A COMPONENT OF A LUMINAIRE WHERE THE SUITABILITY OF THE COMBINATION SHALL BE DETERMINED BY AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION. PRODUCT MUST BE INSTALLED BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE APPLICABLE AND APPROPRIATE ELECTRICAL CODES. THE INSTALLATION GUIDE DOES NOT SUPERCEDE LOCAL OR NATIONAL REGULATIONS FOR ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS. Do not make or alter any open holes in an enclosure of wiring or electrical components during kit installation. Installers should examine all parts that are not intended to be replaced by the retrofit kit for damage and replace any damaged parts prior to installation of the retrofit kit. This lamp operates directly from 120V-277V mains. Do not connect to a voltage higher than 277 volts. To reduce risk of misapplication, Current recommends installing the Fuse Kit (BT8-1AFUSEKIT) in series with the Phase or Hot lead and the SHUNTED (Instant Start style) lamp holder(s) per the wiring diagrams below. Only one fuse kit is needed for up to 4 tubes in the same fixture. Ensure the lamp holders are SHUNTED for Double Ended T8 applications.

The Dual Mode TypeA/B LED T8 Tubes listed above are to be used with G13 (medium bi-pin) lamp holders that are either internally or externally shunted when operated on 120-277V AC mains. To protect against future misapplication, Current recommends installing an in-line fuse: Type 2AG, rated at 1 amp, 350 volts, Littlefuse part number 0209001 MXP or equivalent. Available through Current, BT8-1AFUSEKIT. This device is not evaluated for use with emergency exits. Product is not intended to be used with dimmers when operated on 120 277V AC mains.

Installation Instructions for Operation on 120-277V AC Mains

  1. Ensure power is off to luminaire by disconnecting the supply voltage.

  2. Remove all fluorescent lamps and ballast/wiring area cover. Cut the ballast lead wires about 6 inches away from each lamp holder.
