Product Usage Instructions

1. Safety instructions:

   • Before using the device for the first time, check for any visible damage. Do not connect the device if it is damaged.
   • Avoid connecting the device if it has been dropped or gotten wet. Contact your dealer for inspection.
   • Do not expose the device to rain or moisture.
   • Avoid touching the power cord with wet hands.
   • Regularly inspect the connection cable for any defective insulation. Replace a damaged cable immediately.
   • When unplugging the device, pull directly on the plug, not the power cable.
   • Do not open the housing or attempt to repair the device yourself. This may void the warranty.
   • If not using the device for an extended period, disconnect the power supply from the mains.
   • Keep small parts away from children as they could be swallowed.

   The smart power 24V is specifically designed as a power supply for 24V- based Clearaudio turntables. Use the device according to the information provided in the user manual only. Do not exceed the maximum permissible connection values mentioned in the technical data. Any other use or modification is not intended.

3. Location of installation:

   • Place the device on leveled surfaces.
   • Avoid blocking the ventilation slots or covering the device with cloth or similar materials.
   • Do not place objects with an open flame on the device.
   • Avoid covering or placing anything on top of the smart power 24V to prevent overheating of electronic parts.

Safety instructions

1. General information

   • Check the device for visible damage before using it for the first time.
   • If the device is damaged, it should not be connected to the mains.
   • Also, never connect the device if it has been dropped or gotten wet, contact your dealer to have the device inspected.
   • Never expose the device to rain or moisture.
   • Never touch the power cord of the device with wet hands.
   • For your own safety, regular visual inspections of any defective insulation on the connection cable are also recommended. A damaged cable should be replaced immediately by a specialist!
   • Never pull on the power cable to unplug the device, but directly on the plug!
   • The inside of the device is maintenance-free, never open the housing or try to repair the device yourself. This can also lead to loss of warranty.
   • If you do not operate the device for a longer period of time, we recommend disconnecting the power supply from the mains.
   • Not suitable for children! The scope of delivery may contain small parts that can be swallowed.

2. Intended use

   • The smart power 24V is a power supply for 24V-based Clearaudio turntables.
   • The intended use of the smart power 24V in accordance with the information provided in the user manual only.
   • The power supply may only be operated with maximum permissible connection values according to the technical data. Any other use or modification of this product is not intended.

3. Location of installation

   • The device should only be set up on leveled surfaces.
   • Avoid location with direct sunlight, temperature fluctuations and high humidity. Likewise, avoid placing electronic devices near heaters, heat lamps, or other devices that produce heat.
   • The device is designed for operation in heated rooms. Do not expose the smart power 24V to a temperature above 40° Celsius.
   • Never block the ventilation slots or cover the device with a cloth or similar.
   • No objects with an open flame may be placed on the device (burning candles or similar).
   • To prevent overheating of electronic parts never cover or put anything on top of the smart power 24V.

4. Overload
   The product is designed to comply with all necessary safety regulations, however, you should not leave the device unattended under extreme loads.

5. Maintenance
   Only use a soft cloth with a smooth surface for cleaning. Never use aggressive cleaning detergent.

6. Health information
   Permanently high volume can lead to various types of hearing damage. Use high volume responsibly!

7. Service
   During the gurantee period, the balance reference phono may only be repaired by the manufacturer, otherwise, the warranty will become void. All Clearaudio products should only be serviced by specialist retailers. If despite the high production standard, a repair is necessary, the smart power 24V must be sent to Clearaudio through your dealer.

8. Transport

   • Always us the original packaging when transporting the Clearaudio smart power 24V.
   • Be sure to pack the device exactly as it was shipped.
   • Safe transport is only guaranteed in the original packaging.
   • When packing, proceed in reverse as described for assembly.

9. Disposal

   • Do not dispose this product together with other waste.

10. CE Marking

    • This electronic product corresponds to the applicable guidelines for obtaining the CE mark.

Getting started

The Clearaudio smart power 24V is delivered in custom-designed packaging. Please keep this packaging to ensure safe transportation if needed. Unpack the unit and place it at its desired location. Connect the smart power 24V to the mains power supply with the supplied IEC power cable. Then connect your turntable to the smart power 24V using the attached power cord, instead of the usual power supply.

To switch the smart power 24V on, use the switch on the rear side of the unit. The smart power 24V will start automatically and displays following:

• After completing the powering-up process, which takes approx. 20 seconds, the LCD display get dimmed and the button will turn off. The unit is now in the output/off mode.
• To activate the unit, press the button (approx. 5 seconds) till the button and the screen brighten up and show the following screen:

Before using smart power 24V it is important to fully charge the internal batteries to bring them to the optimum operating condition (see page 6, point 4.3, “Charging mode”).

Display screens

By pressing the front panel button shortly it will cycle through various display screens. A long press will activate the particular function:

• *Status information:**
  Shows the approximate battery charge level.

• Top-Up Battery?:
  If the battery is fully charged (+99%) and the unit is not charging the display shows “Top-Up Battery?”.

• START Charging?:
  If the battery is not fully charged (<99%) and the unit is not charging the display is showing “START Charging?”.

• STOP Charging?:
  If the battery is being charged then the display shows “STOP Charging?”.

• *Output information:**
  Advises whether the unit is in charging mode or battery mode, and the battery output current.

• *Charging information:**
  Shows the charging battery voltage and current.

• Adjustment of the brightness while operating the unit:
  With the display in this position a long press of the front panel button will adjust the display brightness.

• Adjustment of the brightness while the unit is in output/off mode or 30 seconds after not operating the unit:
  With the display in this position a long press of the front panel button will adjust the display brightness.

Note:
All numbers shown in the display images above are examples. Actual readings will vary depending on smart power 24V’s status and run time.

Modes of operation

Output/off mode
The output/off mode is characterized by:

1. The output is deactivated.
2. The screen is dimmed and shows:
3. The LED ring of the button is off.
   Note: In this mode, if the battery is discharged, the unit will start charging the battery automatically.

Battery output mode
The battery output mode is characterized by:

1. The output is activated.
2. The screen is dimmed (if the unit is not operated for more than 30 seconds) and shows:
3. The LED ring is constantly on (not flashing).

Charging mode
The charging mode is characterized by:

1. The output is activated.
2. The screen is dimmed (if the unit is not operated for 30 seconds) and shows:
3. The LED ring of the button is flashing.

If the unit becomes completely discharged, smart power 24V will automatically switch to charging mode. To manually start the charging or top-up process, go to the “START Charging?” or “Top-up battery” screen and confirm with along press (5+ seconds). The display confirms the activated charging mode and then changes back to the status information. Depending on the remaining charge of the integrated NiMh batteries, the charging time may vary. When the battery is fully charged, the charging mode will switch off automatically.

To manually stop the charging process, go to the “STOP Charging?” screen and confirm with a long press. The display confirms the stopped charging process with the following display.

Please note:
The unit will take up to 30 seconds to completely start or stop the charging process.

Operating information

• If the front button is not pressed for 30 seconds the display returns to “Status information” (see page 5).
• As long as a load is connected to the smart power 24V and the remaining charge level is sufficient for operation of the connected device there will be no charging.
• A reduction of the output voltage of up to 4V between two charging cycles is normal. Crucial for the correct speed of the turntable is a noise-free current and not the absolute value. This is ensured by battery buffering and a special, linear regulation in the turntable.
• Switching off the unit is done using the power switch on the rear side of the smart power 24V.

Troubleshooting

• If you have a problem with your smart power 24V, first check the possible causes to rule out the incorrect operation.
• If the error persists, please contact your dealer!

Never try to open the device and/or repair it yourself, this will void the warranty!

Device switches off

without warning

| The device has a safety shutdown due to defective/overheated batteries| Switch the device off and let the

batteries cool down.

If the error still persists, because of defective batteries, the device must be sent to Clearaudio through your dealer.

Device „clicks“| The batteries are deeply discharged, the clicking noise signals the automatic preparation of the charging mode, which can last up to a few hours.| Allow the device to fully charge before using it again.

Warranty

The full, extended warranty period for the smart power 24V is 3 years. To receive this full Clearaudio warranty, you must either complete and return the relevant section of the warranty registration card to Clearaudio, or register your product online at https://clearaudio.de/en/service/registration.php, within 14 days of purchase. Otherwise, only the legal warranty of 1 year can be considered. The full 3-year warranty can only be honoured if the product is returned in its original packing.
