Congratulations on choosing Colgate Aligners! These aligners are designed to correct teeth misalignment through the use of gentle force, helping you achieve a new smile that can change everything. Colgate Aligners are created to provide a successful and stress-free smile journey.

Your aligners
Say goodbye to your smile concerns.
Your aligner box contains a series of your dental aligners, in resealable bags, for the entirety of your treatment. Each resealable bag has one stage of treatment, containing one upper aligner and/or one lower aligner, to be used in sequence according to the stage listed on the bag label. Throughout your journey, each aligner stage moves your teeth a little closer to the final, intended results. We’ve also included an aligner storage case to be used when you remove your aligners so you don’t damage or misplace them.
General guidelines
Here are some things you should know.
- Always wear your aligners 20-22 hours per day and never skip stages.
- Remove your aligners for all snacks, gum and meals.
- Wash your hands before touching your aligners.
- Rinse new aligners with cold water before using them and after removing them.
- Store aligners in their protective case to prevent damage and loss.
- Throughout your journey, take weekly scans of your smile with the provided ScanBoxpro so your dentist can review your progress.
- Immediately talk to your doctor if you lose or break an aligner. They will advise you on what to do.
Inserting your aligners
Now’s the time to wash your hands.
- Start with stage #1. You will move in sequential order per your doctor’s instruction throughout your treatment.
- Check the identification number to see which aligner goes on your upper and lower arch.
- Rinse your aligners under cold water.
- Gently and slowly engage the aligner onto the front of your teeth. Using your fingertips, carefully push on to your left and right back teeth. When the aligner snaps onto the back teeth, work toward the front teeth in the same way until they completely snap into place.
- Follow the same instructions for the other arch.
You can also use your PUL® aligner tool to seat your aligners into place by gently biting down. Never bite your aligners into place to prevent damage. Inform your doctor if there is any significant discomfort, poor fit or tissue impingement.
Removing your aligners
You guessed it, wash your hands.
- Beginning on the inside of your back teeth on one side of your mouth, use your fingertip to gently pull the aligner so that it’s disengaged.
- Repeat the process on the other side of your mouth.
- With your fingertips, slowly pull the aligner from the back teeth toward the front teeth, alternating from one side of your mouth to the other.
- Immediately rinse aligners in cold water and store them in your protective case.
Your PUL® aligner tool can also be used to remove your aligners. If your aligners are extremely difficult to remove, talk to your doctor. Don’t use excessive force, sharp objects, bending or twisting to remove your aligners.
What to expect
The secret to getting that smile.
Treatment
Your aligners should always fit snugly without significant discomfort. If
they ever cause pain or significant soreness, contact your dentist for a
potential adjustment. You may experience a slight lisp as you adapt, this is
normal and should subside over time.
Progression
The length of your treatment varies on your intended endpoint and how
consistently you wear your aligners. Always wear your aligners and progress as
directed. Make sure to evaluate the fit at each stage and contact your doctor
with any issues.
Maintain your smile
When complete, maintain your new smile with your retainers.
Aligner hygiene
And what not to do.
Cleaning
Clean aligners using a soft bristle toothbrush with cleaning solution or
cold water and a small amount of toothpaste. Remember, they should always be
rinsed with cold water prior to insertion. Avoid denture cleaners or mouthwash
to prevent damage to aligners. Never wash your aligners in hot or boiling
water.
Oral care
Don’t eat or drink (except water) when wearing your aligners. Always brush
and floss your teeth after each meal or snack, before re-inserting your
aligners. If brushing your teeth isn’t possible, rinse your mouth and aligners
with cold water. Brush your teeth and aligners as soon as possible. Remember
to maintain good care of your teeth and gum by regularly attending dental
checkups and cleanings.
Indications for Use
The Colgate Aligner is indicated for the alignment of teeth during orthodontic
treatment of malocclusions by way of continuous gentle forces.
Contraindications and Side Effects
The Colgate Aligner is contraindicated for use in patients with active
periodontal disease.
Warnings
- If you are allergic to the plastic aligner material, discontinue use and consult a health care professional immediately. Colgate Aligners must be notified as soon as possible.
- Patients with hereditary angioedema (HAE), a genetic disorder, may experience rapid local swelling of subcutaneous tissues including the larynx. Discontinue use and consult a health care professional immediately. Colgate Aligners must be notified as soon as possible.
- Orthodontic aligners, or parts thereof, may be accidentally swallowed or aspirated and may cause harm to the patient.
Precautions
Aligner care
- Do not expose aligners to hot water and harsh chemicals.
- Leave aligners out of reach of young children and pets.
- Always store aligners in a cool, dry place.
Fit & comfort
- Treatment with aligners may cause dental tenderness.
- The aligners may irritate or scratch gums, cheeks, or lips.
- The aligner may temporarily cause speech impediment including lisp.
- Tooth shape, erupting, and/or missing teeth may affect fitting and the tracking.
- Orthodontic treatment may impair or aggravate the health of the bone and gums which support the teeth.
- Orthodontic treatment may shorten the length of the roots of the teeth and become a threat to the longevity of the teeth.
- Orthodontic treatment may cause joint pain, headaches, or ear problems caused by problems in the temporomandibular joint (jaw joint).
- Orthodontic treatment may cause sharp pain or significant discomfort. If this occurs discontinue use of the aligners and contact your doctor as soon as possible.
During the course treatment
- Attachments may fall off or wear out and require replacement by your doctor.
- Interproximal reduction may be prescribed by your doctor to create space for tooth movement as part of treatment.
- Tooth decay, periodontal, periodontal disease and permanent markings from stains and decalcification may occur if you do not brush and floss your teeth during treatment or if you consume foods or beverages containing sugar while wearing your aligners.
- The treatment may not track to the prescription plan if aligners are not worn for the prescribed number of hours per day as directed by your doctor.
- Failure to wear the aligners for the prescribed number of hours per day and/or not using the aligners as directed by your doctor can make your treatment longer and affect desired results.
Treatment completion
- The doctor may need to adjust the bite at the end of treatment.
- Consistent wearing of retainers at the end of treatment is recommended to reduce the tendency of teeth position to shift post treatment.
- At the end of treatment, all attachments should be removed.
Details about orthodontic treatment
- Aligners cannot move dental implants.
- Orthodontic treatment may cause the bite to change and result in temporary discomfort.
- Orthodontic treatment with aligners may cause a temporary increase in salivation or dryness of the mouth.
- Orthodontic treatment may aggravate a previously traumatized or significantly restored tooth, which may reduce the longevity of the tooth and require additional dental treatment.
