  • To reduce the risk of accidents, do not operate your power tool if it is not properly assembled and in good condition.

During Operation

  • If one of the side brooms or the roller brush ( KG 770 one) becomes blocked, stop work and remove the blockage. Wear sturdy work gloves to reduce the risk of cut injuries from sharp objects.
  • Never reach into rotating bristles – risk of injury.
  • Never bump against shelving, scaffolding, etc. while working since there is a risk of objects top‐pling over or falling from above.
  • Do not leave the power tool outdoors in the rain.
  • Do not operate the power tool without the hop‐per.
  • Take special care in slippery conditions (ice, wet ground, snow), on slopes or uneven ground.
  • To reduce the risk of accidents, take a break in good time to avoid tiredness or exhaustion.
  • If dust levels are very high, always wear a suita‐ble respirator.
  • If there is a noticeable change in running behav‐ior (e.g. higher vibrations, sluggishness), stop work and rectify the cause of the problem.
  • If your power tool is subjected to unusually high loads for which it was not designed (e.g. heavy impact or a fall), always check that it is in good condition before continuing work – see also.
  • Before Starting Work”. Make sure the safety devices are working properly. Do not continue operating your power tool if it is damaged. In case of doubt, consult your servicing dealer.
  • Do not sweep up burning or glowing objects such as cigarettes, ash or matches – risk of fire.

After Finishing Work

  • Empty the hopper after every use.
  • Wear sturdy work gloves when emptying the hopper to reduce the risk of injury from broken glass, metal or other sharp materials.
  • Empty the hopper outdoors if possible.

Working Technique

Holding and Controlling the Power Tool

  • Your power tool is designed to be operated by one person only. Do not allow other persons in the work area.
  • Always hold the push handle firmly with both hands.
  • Push the power tool forwards and adjust speed to suit conditions.
  • Depress the push handle slightly to travel over small humps up to about 2 to 3 cm.
  • If cleaning performance deteriorates, check that hopper is not full and check the side brooms or roller brush ( KG 770 inly) for blockages or wear.

Debris level in hopper

  • The hopper is full if dust and dirt begins to emerge sideways while you are sweeping.
  • To continue working for a brief period, lift the sweeper up at the front so that dirt falls to the back of the hopper. This helps make better use of the hopper’s full capacity.
  • When sweeping heavy material, e.g. grit, loose chippings, the sweeper’s center of gravity shifts to the rear. This tends to lift the side brooms away from the surface and reduce cleaning effi‐ciency.

Maintenance and repairs

  • The machine must be serviced regularly. Do not attempt any maintenance or repair work not described in the Instruction Manual. All other work should be carried out by a servicing dealer.
  • STIHL recommends that maintenance and repair work be carried out only by authorized STIHL dealers. STIHL dealers receive regular training and are supplied with technical information.
  • Use only high-quality spare parts. Otherwise, there may be a risk of accidents or damage to the machine. Contact a servicing dealer if in doubt.
  • STIHL recommends the use of genuine STIHL spare parts. Such parts have been optimized for the machine and the user’s requirements.
  • Never modify the machine in any way – this can be extremely dangerous – risk of accident!
  • Wear sturdy gloves when replacing the circular brush or sweeper roller ( KG 770 only) to avoid cuts from sharp objects.

Assembling the Unit

  • Fit the pushbar to the machine before using it for the first time.
  • Connect pipes (1) and pushbar (2) – detent springs (3) must engage
  • Secure pushbar to sweeper using the locking nuts (4)

KG 770

  • Depending on the body height of the user, the pushbar can be fitted in 2 different positions.
  • Move the holder (1) vertically up.

  • Turn knob to the left or right to the required level:
  • Stage UseUse
  • 1 – 2 for level surfaces
  • 3 – 4 wet leaves, sand, uneven surfaces,
  • e. g. pebble-dashed concrete
  • 5 – 8 readjustment depending on wear of bristles

The bristles of the disc brushes must only rest on the ground with light pressure. Too much surface pressure does not achieve better cleaning results but increases wear.

Lateral guide roller

The lateral guide roller makes it easier to guide the machine around the edges, e. g. along walls or kerb stones.

KG 770 – Down holder

When cleaning around the edges, e. g. along walls or kerb stones, the bristles are guided close to the ground by pressing down the down‐holder.
