Installation Requirements
Before you begin the installation, make sure that you have the following:
- Phillips screwdriver.
- Standard-sized, 19″ wide rack with a minimum of 1U height available.
- Category 5e or higher RJ45 Ethernet cables for connecting the network devices.
Site Environment:
- Make sure that the workshop is well-ventilated, the heat of electrical devices is well-discharged and sufficient air circulation is provided for device cooling.
- Avoid damage devices by following the electrostatic discharge prevention procedure.
- Put the machine box in a place where cool air can blow off the heat inside the machine box. Make sure the machine box is sealed because the opened machine box will reverse the cool airflow.
Mounting the switch
Connecting the Power
- Plug the AC power cord into the power port on the back of the switch.
- Connect the other end of the power cord to an AC power source.
Connecting the RJ45 Port
- Plug a compatible RJ45 transceiver into the RJ45 port.
- Connect an Ethernet patch cable to the RJ45 transceiver. Then connect the other end of the cable to another RJ45 device.
CAUTION: Laser beams will cause eye damage. Do not look into bores of
optical modules or optical fibers without eye protection.
Connecting the SFP Port
- Connect SFP modules through the fiber to other Ethernet terminal devices.
- Connect the other end of the cable to the SFP port on the front of the switch.
Connecting the Management Port
Connecting the Console Port
- Insert the RJ45 connector of the console cable into the RJ45 console port on the front of the switch.
- Connect the other end of the console cable to the RS-232 serial port on the computer.
- The console port of S5300-24P4TS does not support traffic control. Therefore, you must set the option data traffic control to none when you configure the switch with the super terminal. Otherwise, the single pass problem will arise on the super terminal.
Configuring the Switch
Configuring the Switch Using the Web-based Interface
Step1: Connect the computer to the Management port of the switch using
the network cable.
Step 2: Set the IP address of the computer to 192.168.0.x. (“x” is any
number from 2 to 254.). Set the subnet mask of the computer to
255.255.255.0.
Step 3 : Open a browser, type http://192.168.0.2, and enter the default
username and password, admin/ admin.
Step 4 : Click sign in to display the web-based configuration page.
Configuring the Switch Using the Console Port
Step 1 : Connect a computer to the switch’s console port using the
supplied console cable.
Step 2: Start the terminal simulation software such as HyperTerminal on
the computer.
Step 3: Set the parameters of the HyperTerminal: 9600 bits per second, 8
data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and no flow control.
Step 4: Enter the default username and password, admin/admin.
Troubleshooting
Loading Failure Troubleshooting
When encountering loading failures, the system may continue running in its
original version. To address this issue, users should first verify the
physical port connections. In case of disconnected ports, reconnect them to
ensure proper physical connections and proceed with reloading. If the physical
connections are correct, users should then review the loading process
information displayed on the super terminal for input errors. Any identified
input errors should be corrected before reloading the system.
User Password Lost Troubleshooting
If a user forgets or loses the system password, they can reset it using the
following method:
- Connect your computer to the switch’s console port using a console cable.
- Press the “ctrl + b” keys to enter the Uboot mode.
- Start the system with an empty configuration file that has no password by entering the following command:
Bootrom#boot_flash_nopass
Bootrom#Do you want to revert to the default config file?[Y|N|E]:
Note: Forgetting your username and password and restoring them through console port may cause configuration loss and business interruption. Please remember your username and password.
Configuration System Troubleshooting
- Confirm that the power supply is functioning properly and that the console cable is securely connected.
- Verify that the console cable is the correct type for your system.
- Check if the control cable driver is correctly installed on the computer. You may need to download and install the appropriate driver from the manufacturer’s website.
- Confirm that the HyperTerminal parameters are correctly set. Ensure that the baud rate, data bits, stop bits, and parity are properly configured according to your system’s specifications.
