Quick Start Guide
The Quick Start Guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to get started with the Cockpit. The guide covers the following topics:

Logging in for the first time and changing your password
To log in for the first time, open your web browser and navigate to the Cockpit of your server via its IP address. Once you’re on the login page, use the following credentials to log into the administrator account:
Username | Password |
---|---|
administrator | password |
After logging in, you’ll be prompted to change your password. It is recommended to log out and back in after changing the password to make sure you have all necessary permissions to execute administrative tasks.
Configuring storage drives
To configure your storage drives, go to the Storage menu in the Cockpit dashboard. Select the drive you wish to configure under the Drives category. Click on Create Partition Table and select GPT as the format for the partition table. Then click on Format.
You will now notice the button Create Partition, click on it. Wait for the system to create the partition and then you can repeat this process for every drive that you wish to make available for Nx Witness.
Changing the network configuration
To change the network configuration, navigate to the Networking menu and click on the interface that you wish to configure. Click on the setting next to IPv4 to change its configuration.
You will now receive the configuration overview for IPv4. Here you can change DHCP to Manual in order to add one or more static IP addresses. It is also possible for you to change the DNS- en routing options if required. Once you’ve correctly configured the network settings, click on Apply.
You will receive a warning stating that the connection to the server will be lost. If you are certain that you have correctly configured the settings, click on Change the settings. After this, the system should be reachable via the new IP address that you’ve configured.

Configuring storage drives
There are multiple methods on how to configure your storage drives. For optimal performance in Nx Witness, we will be configuring each drive to be individually accessible to the software. This way Nx Witness can handle balancing the load over the available disks.
First go to the Storage menu in the Cockpit dashboard.
Select the drive you wish to configure under the Drives category.
Now click on Create Partition Table.
Select GPT as the format for the partition table and then click on Format.
You will now notice the button Create Partition, click on it.
You will now be able to configure the drive’s partition. You can give the partition a name, but this is not required. Select EXT4 as the filesystem type. Under Mount Point you must enter a storage directory, it will be automatically created if it does not exist yet. Make sure that this location is unique for every drive.
In our example, the first drive will be mounted to /mnt/Media/disk0, the second would be mounted to mnt/Media/disk1 and so on and so forth.
Tick the checkbox for Custom mount options and enter the following into the text-field: errors=continue, nofail
Now click on Create Partition.
Wait for the system to create the partition and then you can repeat this process for every drive that you wish to make available for Nx Witness.
Changing the network configuration
First, navigate to the Networking menu and click on the interface that you wish to configure.
The interfaces will be configured to use DHCP by default to receive an IPv4
address.

You will now receive the configuration overview for IPv4.
Here you can change DHCP to Manual in order to add one or more static IP
addresses.
