pressing the button. Instructions for this can be found in “Firmware update”.
Warning and Safety instructions
To avoid the risk of accidents and damage to this communication module please read these instructions carefully before using it for the first time. Keep these instructions in a safe place.
Please also read the operating instructions for your washer-disinfector and pay particular attention to the Warning and Safety instructions.
- This communication module must only be used for applications specified in the operating instructions. Changes or modifications to it and incorrect use of it are not permitted as this can be dangerous.
- The communication module must only be installed, commissioned and serviced by Miele service or by a suitably qualified person. Repairs are only to be undertaken by Miele Service. Repairing work by unqualified persons could be dangerous.
- Check the communication module carefully before installation for any visible damage. A damaged module could be dangerous and must not be installed.
- Before installing the communication module compares the connection data (voltage and frequency) on the data plate with that on the data plate of your washer-disinfector. If the data does not match, the module could sustain damage. If in any doubt, consult an electrician.
- The communication module housing must not be opened on any account. Touching live electrical components or altering the electrical or mechanical components is dangerous and could cause the module to malfunction.
- The WiFi technology supported by the module can be temporarily or completely disrupted e.g. by structural conditions or the set-up location. For this reason the availability of featured functions cannot always be guaranteed.
Fitting and installation
Range and availability of WiFi signal
The WiFi range or signal strength is dependent on the structural
environment. Reinforced concrete walls and ceilings, metal surfaces, metal-
vaporized films, glass screens and fire protection constructions can muffle or
divert the signal, therefore reducing the range. For example, if the washer-
disinfector is located under a metal worktop, or is surrounded by metal
cabinets, the signal will be almost completely blocked.
Module slot
The module is inserted into the module slot. The module slot is located on the
back of the washer-disinfector.
- If the washer-disinfector is installed in a niche:
- Pull the washer-disinfector forwards out of the niche.
- If the washer-disinfector is installed under a worktop:
- Open the door.
- Unscrew the fixing screws.
- Pull the washer-disinfector out from under the worktop.
Installation
Before fitting the communication module compare the connection data (voltage and frequency) on the data plate with that on the data plate of your washer- disinfector. If the data does not match, the module could sustain damage. If in any doubt, consult an electrician.
- Take note of the module serial number. This is required as the password for establishing the WiFi connection. The serial number can be found on the data plate located on the side of the module. The serial number of the module, without the initial zeroes, acts as the password. Example:
- 12/0001234567890
- Password: 1234567890
- Disconnect the washer-disinfector from the mains electricity supply.
- Remove any stickers or protective caps as necessary from the slot aperture.
- Push the module into the module slot. Gently push the module until it clicks into place.
- Connect the washer-disinfector to the electrical supply. The module is supplied with main power by the washer-disinfector. An additional power connection is not required.
Configuring the interface
Activating the interface on the washer-disinfector
The module XKM 3100 WCDS uses the configuration settings of the RS232
interface of the washer-disinfector.
- Open the menu for configuring the RS232 interface via Further settings/Interface/RS232.
- In the Mode menu, select the Terminal option and confirm your choice with OK.
- Change the Baud rate to 9600 (factory default setting).
The RS232 interface is now activated for the WiFi module. After approx. 30 seconds the module is ready for operation.
Changing the report language
The RS232 interface only supports a limited number of languages. Therefore
the output language for cycle reports is set separately from the language
setting of the washer-disinfector and the Miele app DataDiary.
- Open the menu for configuring the RS232 interface via Further settings/Interface/RS232.
- Select a language in the Language menu and confirm your choice with OK.
Downloading the app
Download the Miele app DataDiary for free from the relevant App Store for process documentation. The operating system of your tablet needs to be at least iOS 10® or Android 8™.
-
Search in App Store® or Google Play™ for the Miele app
DataDiary. -
Download the app to your tablet.
Establishing the WiFi connection
To connect via the app you will need:
- A tablet with the Miele app DataDiary installed on it.
- The serial number of your Miele module XKM 3100 WCDS. This can be found on the data plate.
- Switch the washer-disinfector on. After approx. 30 seconds the module is ready for operation.
- Connect the tablet with the module WiFi.
- The WiFi SSID is DataDiary-AP-XXXXXX, where XXXXXX corresponds to the last 6 letters of the module MAC address.
- The WiFi password is the serial number of the module without the initial zeroes.
Operation
The retrospective output of reports
If there are WiFi problems during data transmission, the cycle report can
be transmitted retrospectively.
Open the menu as follows:
Further settings/Interface/RS232/Print reports
Further instructions and additional information can be found in “Pro-cess documentation” in the Operating instructions for your washer-disinfector.
Firmware Update
An update of the module Firmware may be necessary at irregular intervals. Two
different procedures are available:
- Update via the Miele app DataDiary.
- Update directly via the module XKM 3100 WCDS in your washer-disinfector. The module must be connected to the Internet via a WPS-enabled router for this.
Under no circumstances must the internet be accessed via the washer- disinfector, e.g. via port forwarding! Make sure that your internet connection or your router is configured as appropriate.
The current module Firmware version can be selected via the app.
Firmware update via the Miele app
The Miele app DataDiary has an Update wizard which you can use to update
the module Firmware.
For the update you will need:
- Administrator rights for the Miele app.
- The WiFi access code to establish a connection with the internet.
- Switch the washer-disinfector on. After approx. 30 seconds the module is ready for operation.
- Log into the app as an administrator and follow the wizard instructions.
Firmware update via the module
For the update you will need:
-
A WPS-enabled router that is connected to the internet.
-
Switch the washer-disinfector on. After approx. 30 seconds the module is ready for operation.
-
Press the button on the module for approx. 3-8 seconds until the LED begins to flash green. Do not press it for any longer than this as this would reset the module to its factory default settings.
When the button is released the LED lights up steady yellow. -
Activate the WPS function on your WiFi router within 120 seconds, e.g. by pressing the WPS button (if available). If there is a connection, the LED lights up steady green.
-
Then press the button again for approx. 18-23 seconds until the LED begins to flash green.
During the update the LED flashes alternately green and red. After the update, the module carries out a restart. The module starts in AP mode. The restart is completed when the LED on the module lights up steadily green or yellow.
- Green: The update has been completed successfully and the connection with the tablet has been established.
- Yellow: The update has been completed successfully but the connection with the tablet has not been established. Check whether the tablet is switched on and the WiFi connection is activated.
Caring for the environment
Disposal of the packing material
The packaging is designed to protect against transportation damage. The
packaging materials used are selected from materials that are environmentally
friendly for disposal and should be recycled. Recycling the packaging reduces
the use of raw materials in the manufacturing process and also reduces the
amount of waste in landfill sites.
Disposing of your old appliance
Electrical and electronic appliances contain many valuable materials. They
also contain certain materials, compounds and components which were essential
for their correct functioning and safety. These could be hazardous to human
health and to the environment if dis-posed of with household waste or if
handled incorrectly. Please do not, therefore, dispose of your old appliance
with household waste.
Instead, please make use of the officially designated collection and disposal points to dispose of and recycle electrical and electronic appliances in your local community, with your dealer or with Miele, free of charge. By law, you are solely responsible for deleting any personal data from the old appliance prior to disposal. You are legally obliged to remove any old batteries which are not securely enclosed by the appliance and to remove any lamps without destroying them, where this is possible. These must be taken to a suitable collection point where they can be handed in free of charge. Please ensure that your old appliance poses no risk to children while being stored for disposal.
