CLEANING, CARE, AND STORAGE
How to clean enameled, raw, cast metal utensils
- Cast metal utensils are not dishwasher safe.
- Always allow cast metal utensils to cool off before cleaning. Never immerse the hot cast metal utensils in cold water, as a thermal shock could crack the enamel and damage the cast iron.
- Soak burnedon food residue in hot water and gently clean all surfaces soon after use. Never use steel wool, steel brushes, abrasive cleaners or scouring agents. These products would remove the enamel coating and the patina formed by curing.
- Next, rinse out the cast metal utensils thoroughly with clean water.
- After cleaning, always dry the cast metal utensils thoroughly – never store them when wet or damp.
Care instructions
- After cleaning the cast metal utensil, rub the surface with a small amount of neutral high smokepoint cooking oil or vegetable fat – never use olive oil!
- Wipe off any excess grease using a cotton cloth.
Reseasoning
If frequently used for cooking acidic meals, if cleaned with chemicals or if
the enamel sustains damage or the patina is worn off, cast metal utensils can
take on a somewhat dull and tarnished appearance. If this occurs, reseason the
cast metal components. This greatly reduces burning and rust formation.
- Follow the instructions for cleaning.
- Follow the instructions for curing and seasoning before use.
