PDR2.0 Precision Depth Roller Attachment
Instruction Manual
Part 1 – Reconfiguring the Tiller Tines (for 30” Tillers Only. Skip to Part
2 for 26” Tillers)
The Precision Depth Roller (PDR) requires a re-configuration of the tiller
tines to avoid throwing soil outside the width of the finished bed. To
accomplish this, you will need 13mm wrenches / sockets (2), a board for
blocking, needle-nose pliers, and a torque wrench with 13mm socket.

The outside tines ultimately need to be flipped inward (photo 1). Begin by
removing the tiller flap, which requires removing the cotter pins and washers
with needle-nose pliers and sliding the flap out to the right and setting
aside. Next, using two 13mm wrenches, remove the 8mm bolt that secures the
hood strap to the rear bracket. Then remove the 8mm bolt that secures the
central knife coming up from below the depth control handle extending down
from above (photo 2). Now, pivot the hood upward and forward, then place the
blocking board under the innermost set of tines and maintain a stationary
position (photo 3). 
Using two 13mm wrenches, unbolt the four tines on the outside tine holder flange and set them aside. Then loosen the four bolts on the next flange (photo 4). Remove the nut/washer from one of the loosened bolts on the second flange. Remove the bolt and reverse it, passing it through the flange and the two tines from the opposite direction. Replace the nut to hold it in place. One at a time, do the same for the next three bolts. Now remove each of the nuts, holding the loose tines and bolts carefully in place (photo 5). Remove the flange and replace it with the new one provided in the kit (photo 6). Secure it in place with the nuts/ washers. Perform the same procedure on the other side of the tiller.
You now have 8 removed tines.
Separate them into two piles: one with the four Right Side tines, the other
with four Left Side tines.
Place the Right Side tines on the left side of the tiller, and the Left Side
tines on the right side (photo 8).
Add the remaining 8x30mm bolts and nuts (8) to the original hardware that
remains from the tine removal. Each empty flange will hold two tines, both
turned inward and toward the central gearbox (photo 9). Starting with the
inner flange, place a tine on the outboard side of the flange, making sure
that it is positioned 90 degrees from the outward facing tine on the adjoining
tine assembly (photo 10). Fasten it by passing two bolts through the tine and
flange and securing each with a washer (if present) and nut. On the opposite
side of the same flange, secure the second tine. Follow the same procedure for
the outer flange, making sure that each tine is positioned 90 degrees from the
tine on the adjoining flange (photo 11).
Follow the same procedure for the opposite side of the tiller (photo 12).
Check to make sure that all of the tines are facing forward and conform to the
staggered pattern of being offset by 90 degrees from the tines on the
adjoining holder (photo 13). Confirm that all of the flange nuts are properly
tightened to between 17-19 foot-pounds. Remove the blocking board and return
the hood to its original position. Insert the bolt that holds the hood strap
to the rear bracket, and secure with a self-locking nut. Tighten completely
and re-check for tightness after the first couple hours of use. Rejoin the
central knife to the depth control handle using the original hardware, but do
not over-tighten the nut — the handle must be able to pivot back-and forth
(photo 14).
You are now ready to attach the roller assembly (photo 15). See Page 3.
Mounting the Precision Depth Roller (PDR) requires 13mm wrenches / sockets
(two), a pair of needle nose pliers, and lubricant. Included with your kit
should be four 8x25mm bolts, two rubber bushings, two washers, and two cotter
pins like those previously removed from the rear flap of the tiller.
Start by applying lubricant to the Tiller hood prongs and the two rubber
bushings (photo 16). Then insert the two rubber bushings into the slots on the
guard (photo 17) and slide the guard onto prongs (photo 18).
Next, install the washers and cotter pins on the prongs (photo 19). Use the
needle nose pliers to expand the cotter pins. If excess rubber is preventing
you from installing the washer or pin (photo 20), remove the bushing and cut
off 1/8” to 1/4” of the bushing.
To more easily align the holes in the frame with those in the hood, release and pull back on the roller’s depth control lever until you reach the setting that best aligns the four holes in the hood with those in the frame (photo 21). Insert a bolt through each hole (photo 22). Reaching under the hood, install a flange nut onto each bolt (photo 23). Tighten each completely.
