Operation

Start-up

  • Note the mains voltage! The voltage of the power source must match the voltage specified on the rating plate of the charger. Chargers marked with 230 V can also be operated with 220 V.

Charging process
The batteries (1) are charged one after the other in two charging cycles.

  • In the first charging cycle, all inserted batteries are charged up to approx. 80 % of their capacity.
  • In the second charging cycle, all inserted batteries are charged for approx. 80 % to approx. 100 % of their capacity. The second charging cycle begins when all inserted batteries have been charged to approx. 80 %.

Ensure that all charging bays (2) and charging contacts are free of coarse dirt. Ensure that all rechargeable batteries are fully inserted.
The charging process begins as soon as both the mains plug and a rechargeable battery have been inserted. If the charging process is started with multiple rechargeable batteries simultaneously, they will be charged one after the other in the direction of the imprinted arrows (6) (anticlockwise). If the rechargeable battery has a state of charge of over approx. 80 %, it is skipped during the first charging cycle and charged in the second charging cycle (from approx. 80 % to approx. 100 %). If a new rechargeable battery with a state of charge below approx. 80 % is inserted during the second charging cycle (from approx. 80 % to approx. 100 %), it is charged immediately. Once this rechargeable battery has been charged to approx. 80 %, the charging sequence is redefined. The next rechargeable battery that is charged in the second charging cycle (from approx. 80 % to approx. 100 %) follows the sequence of arrows (6) on the charger (anticlockwise).

Thanks to the intelligent charging process, the state of charge of the battery is automatically detected and then charged up with the optimal charge current depending on battery temperature and voltage. In this way, the battery is treated with care and remains permanently fully charged when it is stored in the battery charger.
Note:  The charging process is only possible when the temperature of the battery is within the permitted charging temperature range, see section “Technical data”.

Priority button (priority start) (3)

Each charging bay (2) has a priority button (3) that will immediately start the charging process in this charging bay.

  • If the priority button (3) is pressed once, the battery in this charging bay will be prioritized, meaning that it will be charged up to approx. 80 % of its capacity (first charging cycle). At the beginning of this charging process, the first four LEDs of the battery charge indicator (4) will light up briefly. Once the rechargeable battery has been charged to approx. 80 %, the next battery in the direction of the arrows (6) (anticlockwise) will then be charged.
  • If the priority button (3) is pressed twice, the rechargeable battery in this charging bay will be prioritized further, meaning that it will be charged to full capacity (i.e. approx. 100 %). At the beginning of this charging process, the five LEDs of the battery charge indicator (4) will light up briefly. Upon completion of this charging process, the other batteries will continue to be charged in sequence to approx. 80 % of their capacity.

If a battery (1) has already been fully charged due to priority charging, the charging sequence will skip to the next charging bay with a battery. The charging sequence follows the direction of the imprinted arrows (6) on the charger (anticlockwise).

What the display elements mean

Green battery charge indicator (4)
When inserting the rechargeable battery (1), the corresponding battery charge indicator (4) will indicate the state of charge of the rechargeable battery.
While charging, the continuously lit LEDs indicate charged battery capacity. The successively flashing LEDs (sequence) indicate the capacity to which the battery is currently being charged.
The LED battery charge indicator applies for the rechargeable battery (1) both during and after charging.

Status LED Rechargeable battery capacity, approx.
The first LED is continuously lit. ≥ 20 %
The first two LEDs are continuously lit. ≥ 40 %
The first three LEDs are continuously lit. ≥ 60 %
The first four LEDs are continuously lit. ≥ 80 %
All five LEDs are continuously lit. > 95 %

Note:  The charging process is only possible when the temperature of the battery is within the permitted charging temperature range, see section “Technical data”. When the charging bay (2) is in standby mode, the first LED of the corresponding battery charge indicator (4) is continuously lit green.

Red temperature monitoring/error indicator (5)
Continuous light
The continuous red light indicates that the temperature of the battery is outside the permitted charging temperature range, see “Technical Data” section. The charging process begins as soon as the permitted temperature range has been reached.

Flashing light
The flashing red light indicates that the battery in this charging bay is faulty.
If six red lights flash simultaneously, this indicates that the battery charger is faulty.

Errors – causes and corrective measures
Cause
Corrective measures
Red temperature monitoring/error indicator (5) is flashing (at the individual charging bay)
Charging not possible

The rechargeable battery is not connected (correctly)| Connect the rechargeable battery to the charger correctly

The battery contacts and charging contacts are dirty| Clean the battery and charging contacts; e.g. by connecting and disconnecting the rechargeable battery several times. Replace the rechargeable battery if necessary
Rechargeable battery defective| Replace the rechargeable battery
Six red temperature  monitoring/error indicators (5) are flashing simultaneously
The charger has identified an internal error| Ensure that all rechargeable batteries are fully inserted.
Pull out the mains plug and then plug it back in again. If the error occurs again, have the charger checked if necessary by an authorized after-sales service center for Bosch power tools

Indicators do not light up

The mains plug of the battery and the charger are not (correctly) plugged in| Insert the mains plug (fully) into the plug socket
---|---
Plug socket, mains cable, or battery charger defective| Check the mains voltage, and have the battery charger checked if necessary by an authorized after-sales service center for Bosch power tools

Practical advice
A significantly reduced operating time after charging indicates that the battery has deteriorated and must be replaced. When the charger is used continuously, or for several consecutive charge cycles without interruption, the charger may heat up. This is, however, harmless and does not indicate that the charger has a technical defect.

Installation on an L-Boxx
Pull the plug out of the socket before carrying out any work on the charger. For ease of transportation, the battery charger can be fitted to an L-BOXX by means of an L-BOXX adapter (7) (one-sided). To do this, fit the accompanying L-BOXX adapter (7) with the accompanying four screws (8) to the bottom of the charger (see figure below).

Hook the L-BOXX adapter (7) into the L-BOXX (see figure B).
