WARNINGS :
- Before using this product, carefully read through these instructions and keep them safe.
- If this product is to be resold outside the first destination country, the reseller must provide this instructions manual, drafted in the language of the country in which the product will be used.
- Any work at heights is risky; only individuals with perfect health and in good physical condition should work at heights and confront any emergency situations.
- This equipment is a vital safety instrument; any incorrect use can cause mortal danger to the user in case of a fall.
- Please note that in a fall-arrest system, only an EN361compliant fall-arrest harness may be used for gripping a body.
- These fall arrest harnesses are not suitable for work that requires being in the suspended position (Risk of orthostatic shock).
- The attachment parts of a rescue harness may not be used as a body support device in a fall arrester system.
- It is recommended that this product be given individually to a single user.
- Only a person who is trained and competent, or one who is under the surveillance of such a person, may use this product.
- Ensure that before and during use, a rescue plan has been developed and is understood, so that any intervention can be carried out effectively and safely.
DESCRIPTION (#2A – #2B):
These full body and rescue harnesses are personal protective equipment (PPE)
against falls from a height and comply with the EN361 standards: 2002 and EN
1497: 2007. Their configuration and the range of several sizes (#3) guarantee
good comfort of use and maximum safety.
These full body and rescue harnesses are made of polyester webbing of 44 mm
width, sewn together and connected by metal securing and adjustment buckles.
The fall arrest fastening points are identified by mark “A” (dorsal fastening
points) or “A/2” (sternal fastening points to be connected together). Any ring
not identified as “A” or “A/2” cannot be used as a fall-arrester attachment
point.. The sternal fastening points identified as A/2 (to be connected
together) are also used for holding the body during rescue operations (EN
1497: 2007).
WEARING THE HARNESS (#4):
1: Hold the harness by its dorsal hooking point and disentangle the straps if required.
2 : Slip on the shoulder straps one after the other, like a jacket, without twisting the straps.
3 : Buckle and adjust the chest strap as appropriate.
4 and 5 : Buckle and adjust each leg strap after positioning them at the crotch (#5.B).
6 : Adjust the tightness of the shoulder straps using the shoulder strap tensioning buckle (#5.A).
(Shoulder strap tightening buckles #5.A) & (Automatic locking buckles #5.B) :
1 – Lengthen
2 – Shorten
The full body harness with belt is correctly adjusted if :
- All of the straps are correctly adjusted (neither too tight nor too loose), they do not cross each other and are not twisted.
- The dorsal hooking ring is correctly positioned in line with the shoulder blades.
- The chest strap is correctly positioned in the middle of the chest.
- The ends of all of the straps are held in the elastic strap loops.
VERIFICATIONS :
- If there is any doubt on the reliability of the equipment, do not use it without getting the written authorisation of a person who is authorised to decide on its reuse.
- When setting up the fall-arrest system with other safety components, verify the compatibility of each of the components and ensure that all of the recommendations in the product instructions and the applicable standards pertaining to the fall-arrest system are applied. – In particular, ensure that no safety function of any component is affected by the safety function of another component and that they do not interfere with each other.
- When using the 300 mm dorsal attachment extension band with a built-in shock absorbing lanyard (EN 355), check that the overall combination does not exceed 2m.
- Before every use of a fall-arrest system, the empty space (clearance) required under the user must be verified so that, in case of a fall, there is no collision with the ground, or with a fixed or moving obstacle that is within the fall trajectory.
- Via a visual inspection, verify that the equipment is in good condition and that there are no faults: condition of the straps, seams, adjustment buckles, rings and fall indicators (#6). Ensure that there is no wear, cuts, fraying, chafing, deformation, traces of rust or discoloration and ensure that the markings are readable (identification and/or date of validity). Ensure that the buckles are clean and that they function properly.
USE :
- During use, regularly check the fastening and adjustment parts of the harness and the integrated belt. These components must be protected from any environmental stress: mechanical stress (impacts, sharp edges, etc.), chemical stress (projection of acids, bases, solvents, etc.), electrical stress (short-circuit, electric arcs, etc.) or thermal stress (hot surfaces, blowtorches, etc.).
- The fall arrest system must be connected to the dorsal D-ring or to the end of the extension strap if it has one, or to two sternal rings simultaneously. These points are identified by the letter A (single fastening) or A/2 (these points must be connected together).
- The use of the harness with a fall-arrest subsystem must be compatible with the instructions for use of each component of the system and with the standards: EN353-1 / EN3532 / EN 355 / EN360 / EN 362. For mobile fall-arrest systems including a rigid (EN353-1) or flexible (EN353-2) belay support, it is recommended to connect the harness using the sternum anchor points. For energy absorbers (EN355) or self-retracting fall-arrest systems (EN360), connect the harness to the dorsal anchor point.
- The anchor point on the structure used to fix the fall-arrest system must be slightly above the user, and must comply with the minimum resistance requirements specified in the EN 795:2012 standard (R ≥ 1200 DaN). Try not to distance yourself too much from this anchor point in order to limit the impact of a possible pendulum fall.
- The tool-holder rings must not be used as anchor points or work positioning points under any circumstances.
- After a fall or when the fall indicators have been activated (#6), the harness must be destroyed.
- The maximum rated load for the rescue harness function is 140 kg.
- This harness can be used by a person weighing less than or equal to 140 kg, provided that the associated arrester systems comply with the normative requirements for arresting a fall with a mass of at least 140 kg.
- Note that during rescue operations, there is a risk of suspension trauma.
- Before the first use of the full body and rescue harness, it is mandatory to carry out suspension tests in a safe place on the fastening points to be used for the rescue operations (EN 1497: 2007)(#2-B) in order to validate its expected effectiveness and comfort level (Adapted size – ease of adjustments).
GENERAL CONDITIONS OF USE OF THE HARNESSES AND WORK RESTRAINT BELTS :
- A periodic inspection carried out by a competent inspector is necessary to ensure the safety of the user, which is connected to the maintenance of the effectiveness and resistance of the equipment. A mandatory annual inspection will check the condition of the equipment and it can only continue to be used on obtaining a written agreement.
- Do not expose these products to temperatures less than -30°C or more than 50°C.
- This equipment must not be used in any way contrary to these specifications and under no circumstances should its limits be exceeded.
- Storage: the product must be stored in a dry and well-ventilated area, sheltered from any direct or indirect source of heat and from ultra-violet rays. Drying wet equipment must be performed in the same conditions.
- Cleaning and disinfection: exclusively with water and a neutral soap.
- Packaging: use rot-proof and watertight protective packaging.
- Transport: packaged and sheltered from impacts or pressure caused by the environment.
- The product must not be modified or repaired.
- Service life: Fall-protection PPE are designed to last for several years in normal conditions of use and preservation. The service life depends on the use. Certain environments that are particularly aggressive, marine, siliceous or chemical can reduce the service life of PPE. In these cases, special care must be taken regarding protection and the inspections before use. The mandatory annual inspection will validate the correct functioning of the mechanism and it can only continue to be used on obtaining a written agreement from the manufacturer or its representative. As concerns what has been mentioned above, the rough estimate of the service life of the products, as recommended by the marketing authority, is 10 (ten) years.
- Ensure that the identification sheet and the maintenance monitoring table is kept up to date from the time of the commissioning and during each inspection.
