Instructions for Use
REQUIRED SAFETY EQUIPMENT
SAFETY FIRST
If you are collecting the equipment for someone else please make sure this sheet is given to the equipment user to read. This sheet should be given to the site supervisor if the equipment is being hired for commercial use so that the information is available to all users.
Before starting any job, be sure to spend a few minutes planning and understanding the hazards and risks of the job. Do this by:
- Thinking about and observing your surroundings
- Running through the steps of the job in your mind
- Identifying the hazards, how you can get hurt and how you’ll prevent it
- Knowing what plant and equipment you need
- Only starting when you can do the job safely
- Ensuring you are trained or experienced for the task
- Communicating with everyone involved
Points to consider when planning a task.
Can you:
- Come into contact with an energy source (e.g. heat, electricity, substance under pressure) or hazardous materials
- Be struck-by or against anything?
- Be caught-in, on or between anything?
- Slip, trip or fall on the same or too a lower level
- Strain or sprain a muscle?
- Cause damage to plant equipment or property?
- Spill or pollute something?
When towing
- Maximum trailer towing speed is 90km/hr
- Ensure trailer is securely attached to suitable rated tow vehicle and all lights work
- Ensure inlet table is up in the locked position
- Ensure outlet chute is facing forwards, with clamp handle tightened and locking pin engaged
Pre-Start Checks and Safety
- Check diesel and engine oil level
- Check and adjust direction of outlet chute and outlet deflector
- Ensure the chipper is positioned on firm level ground and remains attached to the tow vehicle
- Ensure you inspect the material to be chipped to ensure it is free of flax and non-organic material: rocks, glass, wire, metal, etc.
- Ensure you have no loose clothing or long hair that could get caught
- Ensure the inlet chute and table is clear of material when starting the chipper
- Ensure that bystanders are kept a safe distance away from hazards including outlet chute discharge, inlet chute, and noise
When Operating
- Stand to the side of the inlet chute when feeding material into the machine to reduce the risk of being pulled in if you get caught by material
- NEVER PLACE LIMBS INSIDE THE CHUTE OF THE MACHINE WHEN IN OPERATION
- Restrict diameter size of logs to 10 inch / 254 mm
- Should a blockage occur, stop the machine before clearing – NEVER TRY AND CLEAR A BLOCKAGE WHILST THE MACHINE IS RUNNING
- Always wear the required safety equipment (as listed)
Starting Procedure

Disengage cutting rotor clutch (anticlockwise)

Turn key to first click (ON) and wait 5 seconds

Set throttle to minimum

Turn key to start and release after starting
o If machine won’t start, ensure the two emergency stop devices are released (turn knob clockwise) -
Increase throttle to high idle

Slowly engage cutting rotor by turning engagement handle clockwise until it stops

Set throttle to maximum

To feed, pull the yellow control bar; to reverse, push the control bar; to stop, put control bar in middle position.
Stopping and After Use
- Put control bar in neutral (middle position)
- Reduce throttle to minimum and wait 1 minute for cutting rotor to slow down
- Disengage cutting rotor clutch (anticlockwise)
- Turn key off
