INITIAL SETUP

BASIC STARTING GUIDE
WARNING: READ BEFORE CONTINUING
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury to persons using this freezer, read all instructions and follow basic safety precautions before using the unit, including the following:

| Do not modify the plug provided with the freezer. If it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.

| Do not position equipment so it is difficult to disconnect from the power supply.
freezer must be at least 6” away from any wall or object on any side.
| While under warranty, do not attempt to repair or replace any part of the freezer for servicing without first contacting the So-Low Service Department.
| Do not load product into the freezer until the setpoint temperature has been reached.
| To prevent overloading the cooling system, product should be loaded gradually, in batches (less than 20 lbs. an hour is  recommended) . Allow the temperature to recover to setpoint before the next batch of product is loaded into the unit.

  1. Move the freezer to an indoor location, and plug the freezer into an appropriate outlet with an adequate power supply. Consult your maintenance department for additional information on the proper electrical configuration for this  unit.
  2. Once plugged in, the compressor(s) will start to operate and pull down to the setpoint on the temperature control. The freezers default setpoint is:
    ULTRA LOW FREEZERS| -85°C
    ---|---
    LOW TEMPERATURE FREEZERS| -40°C
    LABORATORY FREEZERS| -20°C
    LABORATORY REFRIGERATORS| +4°C
  3. Allow the freezer to reach the setpoint temperature. Depending on the size of the unit, this may take up to 12 hours.
  4. Product can now be slowly loaded into the freezer for storage. See notice above for recommended limits on how quickly product should be loaded.

ULTRA LOW FREEZER ( “C” or “U” SERIES )

DORMANT STORAGE PROCEDURE
WARNING: READ BEFORE CONTINUING

| RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK. Do not attempt to disconnect any battery or electrical components before disconnecting the freezer  from the power supply.

| This unit is designed for cold storage operation. Leaving the unit disconnected from a power supply for long periods of time is not  recommended, and could have unknown effects on the life expectancy of the unit.
| There is no procedure to silence or shut-off the low battery alarm (Lo-Bat).
To reduce the volume of the alarm, you can put a piece of tape over the buzzer, which is located to the right of the top display on the digital control.
| If power failure mode is not disabled, the battery will continue to drain power, and will need to be replaced upon re-activation.

  1. Locate the plug and outlet the freezer is currently receiving power from, and securely remove the plug from the outlet. Do not twist or pull by the cord at an angle.
  2. Once the plug is disconnected, the freezer will go into power failure mode.
  3. Locate the electrical box panel on the side of the freezer ( bottom right side ), and remove the panel screws with a Phillips screwdriver. Store the screws in a safe location, such as a Ziplock bag or storage container, as they will be  needed once you reconnect the plate.
  4. Locate the battery (which is clearly marked) in the lower right hand corner of the electrical box.
  5. Disconnect one lead from the battery by removing the connector on the battery. This will disable alarm battery backup system, and disable the power failure alarm.
  6. To prevent damage to internal components, re-attach the electrical panel cover plate, with the screws saved from step #3.

RETURING THE UNIT TO SERVICE

| When returning the unit to service, repeat steps 3-6. However, during step 5, re-connect the leads to  the battery to re-activate the battery backup system.
Once completed, securely plug the freezer back into the outlet for operation.

LAB CHEST FREEZER ( “CH” SERIES )

| RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK. Do not attempt to disconnect any battery or electrical components before  disconnecting the freezer from the power supply.

| This unit is designed for cold storage operation. Leaving the unit disconnected from a power supply for long  periods of time is not recommended, and could have unknown effects on the life expectancy of the unit.

LAB REFRIGERATOR / FREEZER ( “DH” SERIES )

| RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK. Do not attempt to disconnect any battery or electrical components before  disconnecting the freezer from the power supply.

| This unit is designed for cold storage operation. Leaving the unit disconnected from a power supply for long  periods of time is not recommended, and could have unknown effects on the life expectancy of the unit.

  1. Locate the plug and outlet the refrigerator / freezer is currently receiving power from, and securely remove the plug from the outlet. Note that the plug should be pulled straight off the outlet via the plug head, and not be twisted or  pulled by the cord.

RETURING THE UNIT TO SERVICE

| Securely re-attach the plug to the outlet. Note that the plug should be attached straight on the outlet via the plug head, and should not be turned or twisted.
