POWER TRIM ENGINEERING IMPROVEMENTS

Power Trim’s philosophy is to continually improve all its products. For this reason, we may modify the design, engineering, and appearance of our products periodically. Therefore, some changes, modifications, and improvements may not be covered in this manual.

SAFTEY PRECAUIONS AND WORKING TECHNIQUES

  • Special safety precautions must be observed when operating your Power Trim Power Brush.
  • Always read and make sure you understand both user manuals (Engine and Power Brush) before using your Power Brush for the first time and keep them in a safe place for future reference.
  • Non-compliance with the manuals may cause serious or even fatal injury.
  • Observe all applicable local safety regulations, e.g., by employers’ liability insurance associations, occupational safety authorities, etc.
  • If you have never used a Power Brush before: Have your dealer or other experienced user show you how to operate your machine – or attend a special course to learn how to operate it.
  • Minors should never be allowed to use the motorized device – except for apprentices over the age of 16 when working under supervision.
  • Children, animals, and onlookers must remain at a safe distance.
  • When not using the machine, it must be laid down in such a way that it does not endanger anyone. Ensure that the machine cannot be used without authorization.
  • The user is responsible for accidents or risks involving third parties or their property.
  • Lend or rent your Power Brush only to people who are familiar with this model and its operation –do not lend or rent your Power Trim without the Engine and Power Brush user manuals.
  • The use of noise-emitting power tools may be restricted to certain times by national or local regulations.
  • Anyone operating the Power Brush must be well rested, in good physical health and in a good state of mind.
  • If you have any condition that might be aggravated by strenuous work, check with your doctor before operating the machine.
  • Persons with pacemakers only: The ignition system of your Power Trim produces an electromagnetic field of very low intensity. This field may interfere with some pacemakers. Power Trim & Co. recommends that people with pacemakers consult their physician and the pacemaker manufacturer to minimize any health risk.
  • Anyone who has consumed alcohol, medications or drugs that impair their ability to react must not operate the Power Brush.
  • Use your Power Brush only for the applications described in the user manual of the Power Trim you are using.
  • The machine must not be used for any other purpose.
  • Do not operate the Power Trim without a properly mounted Brush since this may result in damage to the machine.
  • Only use Power Trim and Power Bristle Brush Attachment explicitly approved for this Power Brush by Purchase Green & Power Trim
  • It is important that you use only high-quality parts and accessories to avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the machine.
  • Purchase Green recommends the use of genuine Power Trim tools and accessories. They are specifically designed to match this product and meet your performance requirements.
  • Never attempt to modify your Power Brush in any way since this may increase the risk of personal injury. Purchase Green excludes all liability for personal injury and damage to property caused while using unauthorized attachments.
  • Do not use a high-pressure washer to clean the Power Brush. The solid jet of water may damage parts of the unit.

CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENT

  • Wear proper protective clothing and equipment.
  • Do not wear clothing that could become trapped in wood, brush or moving parts of the machine.
  • Do not wear a scarf, necktie, or jewelry.
  • Tie up and secure long hair above your shoulders.
  • Wear steel-toed safety boots with non-slip soles.

WARNING

  • To reduce the risk of eye injuries, wear close-fitting safety glasses. Make sure the safety glasses are a snug fit.
  • Wear “personal” sound protection, e.g., ear defenders.
  • Wear face protection and make sure it is a good fit. Face protection alone is not sufficient to protect the eyes.

TRANSPORING THE MACHINE

Always stop the engine.
Transport the machine by the handle or loop handle, working tool facing forward.

Never touch hot parts – risk of burns!

The Power Trim can turn over or move while being transported and may cause injuries or property may be damaged. Secure the Power Trim with lashing straps or a net to prevent it from turning over and moving. Allow the Power Trim to cool down before transporting it by vehicle. Position the Power Trim so that no fuel can escape.

REFUELING

Gasoline is highly flammable – keep away from fire or flame – do not spill any fuel – no smoking. Always shut off the engine before refueling.

Do not fuel a hot engine – fuel may spill and cause a fire.

Open the fuel cap carefully to allow any pressure build-up in the tank to release slowly and to pre‐vent fuel spraying out.

Only refuel the machine in a well-ventilated place. If fuel has been spilled, immediately clean the machine – do not allow your clothes to be splashed with fuel. If that happens, change your clothes immediately. After fueling, tighten down the fuel cap as securely as possible. This helps reduce the risk of engine vibrations causing an incorrectly tightened fuel cap to loosen or come off and spill fuel.

Check for   fuel leakage! Never start the engine if fuel has spilled or is leaking – fatal burns may result!

HOLDING AND CONROLING THE POWER BRUSH

  • Make sure you always have a firm and secure footing.
  • Always hold the unit firmly with both hands on the handles.
  • Right hand on control handle, left hand on grip on handlebar

WHILE WORKING

  • In the event of impending danger or in an emergency, switch off the engine immediately by pressing the stop switch.

  • To reduce the risk of injury from contact with the Power Trim and ejected objects, do not allow any other persons within a radius of 5 meters of your own position. This distance must also be maintained in relation to objects (vehicles, windowpanes) –risk of property damage!

  • The correct engine idle speed is important to ensure that the Power Trim stops moving when you let go of the throttle trigger. If the working tool continues to move when the engine is idling, have your dealer check the machine and make proper adjustments or repairs. Check and correct the idle speed setting at regular intervals. Purchase Green recommends you have this work done by a Honda servicing dealer.

  • Do not operate your Power Trim in the starting throttle position – engine speed cannot be controlled in this position.

  • Be particularly alert and cautious when wearing ear protection because your ability to hear warnings shouts, alarms, etc.) is impaired.

  • Take breaks when you start getting tired or feeling fatigued.

  • Work calmly and carefully – in daylight conditions and only when visibility is good. Proceed with caution, and do not put others in danger.

  • Use your Power Brush only for safe applications.

  • As soon as the engine starts running, the Power Brush engine generates toxic exhaust gas. These gases may be odorless and invisible and may contain unburned hydrocarbons and benzene. Never run the engine indoors or in poorly ventilated locations, even if your model is equipped with a catalytic converter.
To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injury from breathing toxic fumes, ensure proper ventilation when working in trenches, hollows, or other con‐fined locations.

  • Stop work immediately if you start suffering from nausea, headaches, impaired vision (e.g., your field of vision gets smaller), impaired hearing, dizziness, or impaired concentration – these symptoms may be the result of too-high exhaust gas concentration.

  •  Operate your Power Trim in such a way that it produces a minimum of noise and emissions –do not run the engine unnecessarily, accelerate the engine only when working.

  • To reduce the risk of fire, do not smoke while operating or standing near your Power Trim. Combustible fuel vapor may escape from the fuel system.

  • Dust, fumes, and smoke produced while working may be hazardous to health. Wear respiratory protection in case of heavy dust or smoke emission.

Never touch hot parts – risk of burns!

Keep your hands and feet away from the Power Trim. To reduce the risk of injury, never touch a rotating tool. Always stand behind the deflector or to one side of the machine during operation – never in front of the rotating tools.

If your Power Trim is subjected to unusually high loads for which it was not designed (e.g., heavy impact or a fall), always check that it is in good condition before continuing work.

“Before Starting.” Check that the fuel system has no leaks, and the safety equipment is fully operative. Never use a Power Trim that is no longer safe to operate. In case of doubt, contact a dealer.

To reduce the risk of injury, shut off the engine before changing the attachment. After finishing work or before leaving the Power Trim unattended: Shut off the engine.

VABRATION

Prolonged use of the Power Brush may result in vibration-induced circulation problems in the hands (Raynaud’s disease).

No general recommendation can be given for the length of usage because it depends on several factors. The period of usage is prolonged by:

  • Hand protection (wearing warm gloves)

  • Work breaks
The period of usage is shortened by:

  • Any personal tendency to suffer from poor circulation (symptoms: frequently cold fingers, tingling sensations).

  • Low outside temperatures.

  • The force with which the handles are held (a tight grip restricts circulation).

Continual and regular users should monitor closely the condition of their hands and fingers. If any of the above symptoms appear (e.g., tingling sensation in fingers), seek medical advice.

MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS

  • Service the machine regularly. Do not attempt any maintenance or repair work not described in the Power Trim and Engine instruction manual. Have all other work performed by a servicing dealer.
  • Purchase Green recommends that you have servicing and repair work carried out exclusively by an authorized Honda and Power Trim servicing dealer. Honda and Power Trim Dealers are trained and are supplied with the necessary technical information.
  • Only use high-quality replacement parts to avoid accidents and damage to the machine. If you have any questions in this respect, consult a servicing dealer.
  • Purchase Green recommends the use of genuine Power Trim replacement parts. These parts are specifically designed to match your machine model and meet your performance requirements.
  • To reduce the risk of injury from unintentional engine startup, always shut off the engine and disconnect the spark plug boot before performing any repairs, maintenance, or cleaning work.

Exception: Carburetor and idle speed adjustments.

  • Do not turn the engine over on the starter with the spark plug boot or spark plug removed since there is otherwise a risk of fire from uncontained sparking.
  • To reduce the risk of fire, do not service or store your machine near open flames.
  • Check the fuel filler cap for leaks at regular intervals.
  • Use only a spark plug of the type approved by Honda and make sure it is in good condition.
  • Inspect the ignition lead (insulation in good condition, secure connection).
  • Check the condition of the muffler.
  • To reduce the risk of fire and damage to hearing, do not operate your machine if the muffler is damaged or missing.
  • Do not touch a hot muffler since burn injury will result.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

STARTING
  1. The Honda GX35 engine is inclinable, which means it can be stored and operated in any direction. BEFORE STARTING, the driver needs to be in the horizontal position for 5 minutes.
  2. Before starting the post driver, press the transparent, semi-circle fuel bubble repeatedly until the carburetor is filled with fuel. If the engine is cool, place the choke lever to the “on” position.
  3. Place one hand on the top engine cover with slight downward pressure. With your other hand, pull the starter rope about 20″ quickly.
  4. After the engine has started, place the choke lever completely to the “off” position. AFTER IDLING FOR 5 MINUTES, start normal work.
  5. While the post driver is running, don’t pull the starter rope. The high-speed rotating parts may damage the starter.
    Operating Instructions
OPERATING
  1. After the engine is started, ALLOW IT TO IDLE FOR 5 MINUTES BEFORE USE.
  2. For a brand-new driver, ONLY PERFORM LOW TO MEDIUM-SPEED WORK FOR THE FIRST 24 HOURS OF USE to break in the engine and prolong the life of the machine.
  3. For a brand-new driver, it may take 2 to 3 minutes of post driving for the machine to begin running at a normal performance level.
  4. Do not operate the driver at a high speed when you are not brushing.

SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE

AIR FILTER MAINTENANCE

After the driver has been used for some time, dirt and dust particles can block the flow of air, which will result in reduced power and increased oil consumption. It is necessary to clean the air filter regularly. The cleaning cycle is usually every other day or every 10 hours of operation when using the Power Trim in extremely dusty environments.

CLEANING THE AIR FILTER
  1. Remove the air filter cover and take out the air filter.
  2. Put the air filter in water. Squeeze the water out of the filter and allow it to air dry.
  3. Put it in clean oil and rub gently. Take it out and squeeze it dry.
  4. After cleaning, assemble the air filter and the air filter cover.
