Device First Use
Step 1. Charge your ChestPal Pro stethoscope Before using ChestPal Pro for the first time, please charge the stethoscope for at least 30 minutes:
- Connect the micro-USB cable provided in the box to the stethoscope’s micro-USS port (3).
- Connect the micro-USB cable to a USB power source.
- The stethoscope will start charging automatically. A blinking yellow LED (l) will turn on, indicating that the device is charging. 0
- The LED light will change to glowing green once the stethoscope is fully charged.
Step 2. Install the ChestPal Pro app
- Search for ChestPal Pro on a smartphone in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
- Download the app.
- Open the app and create a new account.
Step 3. Complete a 5 min guide
To ensure correct usage of ChestPal Pro with your patients, complete the quick
interactive guide byyourselffirst:
- You will see it in the app after creating an account.
- It includes short videos on how to best operate the device and produce high-quality lung sound recordings.
- You will record your own lung sounds as part of the process.
- You can access the guide later through Settings.
Device Regular Use
Connecting the stethoscope to the app
- In the app, start a lung exam by tapping on a respective button on the main screen.
- You will be taken to a ‘Connect the device’ screen.
- Press and hold the Control button (2) on the stethoscope for 3 seconds.
- The stethoscope will search for the app (blinking blue LED) and connect automatically (glowing blue LED).
- You will be taken to the lung sound recording screen.
Conducting a lung exam
- Connect the stethoscope to the app.
- Place the stethoscope firmly onto a patient’s clean, intact, unbroken skin at a generally accepted placement position for listening to the lungs.
- Instruct the patient to take deep breaths in and out through an open mouth during the recording.
- Press and hold the Control button on the stethoscope for one second, then let go to start the recording. Each recording captures 5 seconds of audio and ends automatically.
- Once the recording is complete, you will see the lung sound analysis result for that recording displayed in the app.
- Follow steps 2-5 to further record lung sounds at required placement positions.
- Once you have completed the exam, you can save it by selecting a relevant patient profile.
Important
- Do not move your fingers across the stethoscope while recording.
- Do not move the stethoscope while recording.
- Always listen to the recording you made to ensure it is of high quality, i.e. you can clearly hear the breathing cycle and no artefacts are present.
- In case of insufficient recording quality, ask the patient to breathe deeper through an open mouth, making two complete breathing cycles within one recording.
- Make sure to eliminate the possible causes of artefacts when doing a recording (e.g. skin or hair rubbing against the membrane, close proximity conversation, hand noise, clothes or accessories touching the stethoscope).
Turning the stethoscope off

Press and hold the Control button on the stethoscope for 4 seconds until the LED is off;
or -
Exit the lung exam screen. The stethoscope will go into search mode for 30 seconds (blinking blue LED) and then turn off automatically.
