AtriCure ACM1 CryoICE Box
Technical Reference Guide
The AtriCure cryoICE BOX is a medical device used for freezing tissue during surgical procedures. It is designed to be used by healthcare professionals only.
Product Usage Instructions
- Set-Up Sequence: Before using the cryoICE BOX, follow the set-up sequence:
- Open the tank and verify that the valve assembly is attached to the tank with the orange heater band.
- Turn on the machine. Be sure to route the N2O vent tubing to a safe area prior to use.
- Verify the tank indicator. If it is flashing, this indicates that the tank is closed. Open the tank valve to resolve.
- Operation: To operate the cryoICE BOX:
- Connect the probe. Connect the red thermocouple connector to the red connector and the black thermocouple connector to the black connector. Push back the locking collar on the orange exhaust connector prior to connecting, and push the blue inlet connector straight in. Pull back on the orange and blue connectors after connecting to verify a good connection.
- Start a freeze cycle by pressing the Start/Stop button. The button will turn blue. Refer to the temperature display for troubleshooting tips.
- Wait until the Start/Stop button turns green before beginning a new freeze cycle.
- To abort a freeze cycle, press the Start/Stop button again.
- Purge and Power Down Sequence: After use, follow the purge and power down sequence:
- Disconnect the probe. Disconnect all connections and discard the probe (it is a single-use device). Push the locking collars of the orange and blue connectors towards the cryoICE BOX to disconnect.
- Purge gas from the machine.
- Turn off the machine.

cryoICE BOX Set-Up Sequence
Open tank
- Open valve “all the way open”
- Active tank should have orange heater band on it. Verify valve assembly is attached to tank with orange heater band.
Turn on machine
- Turn on power switch located on back of unit
- cryoICE BOX should be set up at least 15-minutes prior to the procedure
Note : Be sure to route the N2O vent tubing to a safe area prior to use.
Verify tank indicator
Note : Flashing tank indicates the tank is closed. Open tank valve to
resolve

Connect probe
Connect probes to color matching connections
- A. Thermocouple connectors: Red to red and black to black
- B. Orange exhaust connector: push back locking collar prior to connecting
- C. Blue inlet connector: pushes straight in
Note : Pull back on orange and blue connectors after connecting to verify good connection. Refer to ACM Cryo Console ‒ Technical Reference Guide for troubleshooting tips for connecting probe.
Start a freeze cycle
- A. Press the “Start/Stop” button to initiate the freeze cycle (button will turn blue)
- B. Timer starts when the temperature reaches –40°C
- C. Temperature display

Freeze completed, the auto-defrost cycle begins
- A. When the timer hits “0”, the machine will go into defrost (orange) mode and begin to warm probe to 10°C before returning to green ready status
Note : Wait until “Start/Stop” button turns green before beginning a new freeze cycle
Aborting a freeze cycle
- A. Freeze can be stopped at any time by pressing the “Start/Stop” button once
Machine will initiate a defrost cycle (orange) and return to ready status (green)
cryoICE BOX Purge and Power Down Sequence
Note : Leave unit powered ON until purge sequence is completed
- Disconnect probe
- A. Disconnect all connections and discard probe (single use device)
- B. Push locking collars of orange and blue connectors towards cryoICE BOX to disconnect
- Close tank
- Close valve completely (turn to right)
- Purge gas from machine
- A. Press and hold vent button until gas gauge stops moving
- Gas gauge is mounted on cart frame
- Turn off machine
