BROCADE SANnav Management Portal
Product Information
Brocade SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View
The Brocade SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View are products designed to manage Storage Area Network (SAN) fabrics. The SANnav Management Portal is responsible for managing switches and directors, while the SANnav Global View provides users with global visibility by gathering data from SANnav Management Portal instances.

The Brocade SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View can benefit any environment that uses SAN fabrics.
Licensing Options
All Brocade SANnav products are offered via subscription-based licensing. The SANnav Management Portal is available in three license types: Trial, Base edition, and Enterprise edition. The SANnav Global View is available in two license types: Trial and 20 SANnav Management Portal instances. Subscription durations range from 90-day trial periods to 7-year durations in increments of 1 year.
Usage Instructions
To use the Brocade SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View:
- Purchase a subscription-based license from Brocade.
- Install the software on your system.
- Activate the license key to access the product.
Note that during the 90-day trial period, you do not need to install a license key to use the product. After the trial period expires, you will be denied access to the product until you purchase a subscription-based license. The data gathered during the trial period is preserved and made available when you install and activate the license key. You cannot extend the trial period or reinstall the software on the same machine to obtain an additional 90-day trial period.

General Questions and Answers
What types of environments can benefit from Brocade SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View?
SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View are ideal for managing Brocade-based storage Fibre Channel networking infrastructure that is deployed in data center and service provider environments. These products can manage any switch running Brocade Fabric OS® (FOS) 7.4.x and above. Both the SANnav Management Portal Base Edition and the SANnav Management Portal Enterprise Edition fully support managing FICON environments as well.
Can I use SANnav Global View without the SANnav Management Portal?
No. You cannot use SANnav Global View without the SANnav Management Portal. SANnav Global View by itself does not directly manage SAN fabrics. Rather, it gathers data from SANnav Management Portal instances and provides users with global visibility.
How are SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View sold?
All Brocade SANnav products are offered via subscription-based licensing. Options are listed in Table 1 for SANnav Management Portal and in Table 2 for SANnav Global View.

Can I try out SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View without purchasing them?
Yes. Anyone who has a valid entitlement support contract with Broadcom can download and use trial versions of SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View for 90 days without purchasing a license. The trial versions provide full functionality (except for SANnav Management Portal’s disaster recovery feature and backup and restore of SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View databases) and can support up to 15,000 ports (for the SANnav Management Portal Trial license) and up to 20 instances of Portals (for the SANnav Global View Trial license).
Do I need to install a license during the trial period?
No. You do not need to install a license to use SANnav Management Portal and/or SANnav Global View during the trial period.
What happens when the 90-day trial period expires?
Users are given a warning that the trial period will be ending soon. After the trial period expires, users are denied access to the product, including any application-programming-interface (API)-based access.
Do SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View keep the data gathered during the trial period?
Yes. The data is preserved and is made available when a user installs and activates the license.
Are there trial versions for OEM versions of SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View?
No. The trial versions of SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View exhibit Brocade-branded behavior. However, after the trial period ends or anytime during the trial period, the user may apply a license key purchased through an OEM.
Can I extend the trial period?
- No.
Can I reinstall SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View on the same machine to obtain an additional 90-day trial period?
- No.
What is the behavior of SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View when a license key is applied?
When a license key is applied, SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View enforce the behaviors according to that particular license. The products enforce the limits on the number of ports that can be managed and the time period for which the product can be used.
Are there multiple versions of SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View for OEMs?
- No. There is one version of each of these products.
Can I apply a license key even after the 90-day trial period has expired?
- Yes.
Can I apply a license key during the trial period?
- Yes. You can apply a license key at any time after installation, including during or after the trial period.
What happens if my SANnav Management Portal or SANnav Global View license expires?
The product continues to function for a period of 30 days after the license expiration date. If users do not install and activate a valid license key 30 days after the license expiration date, the only operation allowed from the UI is to add a new license or extend the existing license.
Can I apply a SANnav Management Portal or a SANnav Global View license to an expired product?
- Yes. You can apply the license at any time, including after the license has expired and even after the 30-day grace period.
How do I know when my license will expire?
The expiration date is listed on the License Management page within SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View. Refer to the SANnav user guide for specific instructions. Also, starting 90 days from the license expiration date, a warning message displays at login.
Can I install the same SANnav Management Portal or SANnav Global View license key on multiple servers?
- No. A given license key is bound to the specific physical server on which it is installed.
How can I migrate a SANnav Management Portal or SANnav Global View license from one server to another server?
Migrate a license by following the rehosting procedure documented in the installation and migration guide. The rehosting procedure involves releasing a license from the current server and generating a new license key for the new server where SANnav will be hosted. Refer to your vendor’s documentation for details on generating licensing keys.
How can I migrate a SANnav Management Portal or SANnav Global View license if the server hardware fails and I cannot follow the rehosting procedure?
- Contact your vendor’s support team for help with the license migration. Contact your vendor for more details.
Does SANnav Management Portal support automation and integration with third-party management solutions?
- Yes. SANnav Management Portal currently supports integration with VMware vCenter.
How can I access data in the SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View database?
- Access data via APIs, via a GUI, or by generating reports. There is no direct access to SANnav databases.
How can I share SANnav Management Portal data with my help desk system?
- Configure SANnav Management Portal events to be automatically forwarded to your ticketing system.
How do I access Brocade SANnav software and documentation?
Brocade software and firmware can be downloaded only by customers with valid support contracts directly with Broadcom.
For customers who have a direct support contract with Broadcom
Brocade SANnav documentation, such as user manuals and public release notes, is located under the SANnav product on broadcom.com at https://www.broadcom.com/products/fibre-channel-networking/software/sannav- managementportal. SANnav software and release notes can be downloaded from the myBroadcom website at https://www.broadcom.com/mybroadcom (registration required).
Once registered, perform the following steps to download SANnav software and documentation:
- Log in to your myBroadcom account at https://www.broadcom.com/mybroadcom by clicking LOGIN in the top-right corner.
- Click Brocade Products.
- Click Software Downloads.
- The Search Downloads page opens.
- Use the “Product Search” option on the left side of the page. By placing your cursor in this text box, a drop-down list appears. Select Brocade Storage Networking to view documentation and software related to Brocade products. The search results will be very extensive. To narrow the results, select Brocade Storage Networking > SANnav Software > SANnav.
- You can also use the “Enter Keyword” option on the right side of the page.
- To locate all SANnav documents, release notes, and software, enter SANnav in the keyword search.
- To limit the search to only documents and firmware on SANnav Management Portal, enter SANnav Management in the keyword search.
- Select a SANnav Management Portal software version, and click the Download Software icon on the far right.
- Select any document, and click the Download Document icon on the far right.
For customers who do not have a Broadcom support contract and want to try a SANnav eval for 90 days
SANnav – 90-Day Evaluation (Trial) Support Process
Summary: TAC will provide software and support to customers who are using SANnav during the 90-day evaluation (trial) period. TAC will ticket and accept all SANnav requests for software, questions, or issues without enforcing entitlement for customers who are in the 90-day evaluation period. Customers who call in must clearly state that they have a SANnav trial version to avoid confusion within TAC, as TAC will normally ask for switch serial numbers.

Support Process Requirements:
- To receive the latest generally available version of SANnav, simply call Broadcom support and state that you would like a SANnav trial version of software to avoid confusion.
- To receive support during the 90-day evaluation period, you must be using the latest generally available version of SANnav, and you must clearly state that you are calling for SANnav trial support to avoid confusion.

Where can I purchase SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View?
- Brocade SANnav products are sold through Broadcom OEMs and channel partners.
Upgrade and Migration Paths
I have a license for Brocade Network Advisor. Can I upgrade to SANnav Management Portal using that license?
- No. Existing Brocade Network Advisor customers must purchase SANnav Management Portal or both SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View, based on their needs.
Device Support
Which Brocade SAN devices are supported by SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View?
- SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View support all Brocade switches and platforms that run Brocade FOS 7.4.x or above.

Can I run SANnav Management Portal and SANnav Global View on the same physical server but in two different virtual machines (VMs)?
Yes. However, the VM running SANnav Management Portal must adhere to the server specifications for SANnav Management Portal, and the VM running SANnav Global View must adhere to the server specifications for SANnav Global View.
