Overview
The high-fidelity speaker for superior sound
- Versatile design with smart orientation sensing. Pair twospeakers horizontally and Five automatically separatesthe left and right channels for impressive stereo sound.When paired vertically, each smartly adjusts to mono formore detailed stereo separation and an even widersoundstage.
- Touch controls on the speaker let you adjust volume, playand pause, or skip through songs.
- Use the line-in port to connect your turntable or anotherdevice—simple control with the Sonos app or AppleAirPlay 2.
- Pair two Fives for left-right stereo sound or use two Fivesas rear surrounds for your home theater.
- Control your Sonos system with the Sonos app (forAndroid and iOS).

Note : If you don’t want to allow playback or volume adjustments using the speaker touchcontrols, you can disable them in the room’s settings

Use an Ethernet cable if you want toconnect to a router, computer, ornetwork- attached storage (NAS)device (optional). -

Press to connect to your Sonossystem during setup. -
AC power (mains) input
Use only the supplied power cord(using a third-party power cord willvoid your warranty).
Note : Insert the power cord firmlyuntil it is flush with the bottom of thespeaker
Select a location
You can put your speaker just about anywhere. For maximum performance, here’s a fewguidelines:
- Five is a substantial and powerful speaker and should be placed on a flat surface that isrobust and durable enough to properly support it. Make sure Five’s rubber feet sitcompletely on the flat surface.
- Allow at least 2″ perimeter all around Five, including its power cord.
- For a single Five speaker, we recommend positioning the speaker horizontally to enablestereo sound.
- Place Five across the room from where you’ll be listening (at or close to your ear heightfor best results).

- Five is humidity resistant so you can use it in the bathroom; however it is not waterresistant, so don’t position it near water or leave it outside during a rain storm.
Set up stereo pair
Pair two Sonos speakers in the same room for a wider, stereo experience. One speakerserves as the left channel and one serves as the right channel.
Note : The Sonos speakers in a stereo pair must be the same type.
- Place the speakers 8 to 10 feet apart. Your favorite listening position should be 8 to 12feet from the paired speakers—less distance increases bass, more distance improvesstereo imaging.
- Go to > System .
- Select one of the speakers you want to use in the stereo pair, then choose Set Up StereoPair to get started. Learn more
Set up surrounds
It’s easy to turn two Sonos speakers (same model), or a Sonos Amp and your favorite non-Sonos speakers, into separate right and left channels for your home theater.
- Place each surround speaker about 10ft from your favorite listening position, angling themtoward the seating area.
- Go to > System .
- Select a room with a soundbar and choose Add Surrounds to get started.
Note : If you group the rooms or create a stereo pair instead, you won’t have surround sound. Learn more
Surround audio settings
During setup, surround sound is optimized for your room.
These settings are adjustable:
- Surrounds Turn surround sound On or Off .
- TV Level Adjust surround volume for TV audio.
- Music Level Adjust surround volume for music.
- Music Playback Ambient (subtle) or Full (louder, fullrange). Doesn’t apply to Dolby AtmosMusic playback.
Line-in
Connect an audio device, like a CD player or a turntable with a built-in phono
preamp, to theline-in port on a Sonos product (Amp, Port or Five). Learn more
Product settings
You can customize Sonos products for your surroundings. Go to > System and select aproduct
- Room Name If you move your speaker to a new room,you can change its name in Settings .
- Turn off WiFi (not available for portable products) You can turn off your speaker’s WiFi when it’s connected to your network with anEthernet cable. This reduces power consumption and can improve connectivity for some wired speakers. For products like Amp and Port, turning offWiFi can reduce the internal temperature when they’re placed in a rack or stacked. Learn more
- EQ Sonos products ship with preset equalization settings. You can change thesound settings (bass, treble, balance, orloudness) to suit your personal preferences. Learn more
- Trueplay Trueplay adapts the sound for your surroundings and content. Portable products can tune themselves automatically. Learn more
- Volume Limit You can set a maximum volume for eachroom. Learn more
- Status Light Displays the speaker’s connection to WiFi,indicates when the volume is muted, andsignals errors. Learn more Note : If the light is distracting, you canturn it off in Settings .
- Touch Controls You can disable the touch control on your speakers. You may want to do this toprevent a child or curious pet from accidentally adjusting playback or volume. Learn more
- Battery Saver (for portable products only) To save battery life, you can set your portable speaker to power off automatically instead of going to sleep. Itwon’t appear in the Sonos app until it’spowered back on. When a projector, turntable, stereo, orother audio device is connected to aSonos product, you can adjust these line-in settings:
Line-In (for Sonos products with line-in capability)
- Source name : Choose a name for theline-in device.
- Source level : Adjust the line-in sourcelevel if you find the default volumesetting is too quiet or distorted.
- Audio Delay : Add a delay betweenthe line-in source and Sonos to reducethe chance of audio issues occurringwhen you’re playing line-in audio ongrouped speakers.
- Autoplay : Choose a room if you wantline-in audio to start playingautomatically when Sonos detects asignal on the line-in port. (Autoplay isdisabled by default.)
