Goal of the Game
In Tokyo Island, players need to work together to collect 10 Treasure cards
before they run out of tools.
Setup
Setup for your first game We’ll explain the various missions later on.
-
Place the Ship in the centre of the table.
-
Take the Tool tokens (from now on, we’ll refer to these as ‘Tools’), shuffle them and place them face down on the Ship’s spaces : 4 tokens in cargo hold 1, 6 tokens in cargo hold 2 and 6 tokens in cargo hold 3. Then flip the tokens face up.
-
Take the 10 Treasure cards that correspond to the mission and the desired difficulty level. We strongly recommend starting with the easy version of the Lamarck mission.
Return the remaining Treasure cards to the box. Shuffle the 10 cards, place them face down on the stern of the ship, and flip the top card face up. -
Return the Trophy cards, the Trophy booklet and the Special Action tokens to the box.
-
Place the Island board in the box, and place the box in the centre of the table.
-
Randomly place the Treasure tokens face down in the corresponding indentations of the Island board.
-
Place the Cabinet of Curiosities next to the board, A side up.
Round Overview
One after another in clockwise order, players try to locate Treasure tokens
that correspond to the face-up Treasure card.
To do this, you need to choose an available Tool on the Ship.
The numbers next to the locations on the Ship are multipliers that indicate
how many times you may perform the action. Slide the Tool to the side (towards
its corresponding multiplier), to help you remember which Tool has been
chosen.
Depending on the Tool you chose, you will or will not be able to explore certain parts of the island.
The rake allows you to dig through sand.
The shovel allows you to dig in the jungle.
The pickaxe allows you to dig through rocks.
Next, flip an accessible Treasure token of your choice face up, in the zone of
the board that corresponds to the Tool you used.
Place the Treasure token face up next to its space. Continue playing for as
long as you can (depending on the multiplier x1, x2 or x3). You’re allowed to
keep searching in the hole you started at, or to choose a different space.
If you flip a Treasure token that corresponds to the Treasure card, place that
card next to the Ship.
Next, place this token on the corresponding space of the Cabinet of
Curiosities. This allows you to easily keep track of the types of treasure
that are still on the island. Then reveal a new Treasure card.
Note : if the Treasure card matches a Treasure token that was flipped
over earlier this round, you’re not allowed to claim the card automatically.
However, if you have at least one action remaining this round, you may choose
to claim the Treasure card using a previously flipped Treasure token, instead
of flipping over a new Treasure token.
After you’ve flipped 1, 2 or 3 Treasure tokens face up, flip any tokens that
weren’t collected face down again on their respective spaces. Discard the Tool
you used (it’s out of the game). Now, the player to your left takes their
turn.
End of the Game
The game can end in two ways :
You managed to collect all 10 Treasure cards.
Congratulations! You won : now it’s time to calculate your score, and to
discover whether or not your achievement was legendary (see the description of
the missions below).
There are no Tools left on the Ship, and there’s at least one Treasure card
remaining.
Too bad ! Better luck next time… or maybe try again right away ?!

Mission, difficulty level and scoring
Toko Island offers various missions : Lamarck, Kablick, Herschel and

For each mission, you must choose one of the three difficulty levels (easy,
medium, hard). The symbols and colors on the backs of the Treasure cards allow
you to easily distinguish the cards.
Upon completing a mission, you receive a Trophy card. Find the card that
corresponds to the mission and the chosen difficulty level. You may slide this
