FAQ’s

How often should the robot vacuum run?

Most owners believe that running their robot vacuums four times per week is sufficient to keep the floors dust-free. However, if you have children or pets, you should use your robot vacuum more frequently. Daily vacuuming is recommended if you suffer from seasonal allergies.

Does a robot vacuum need space?

A robot vacuum requires a certain amount of space on either side of it and in front of it (usually 1.5 feet and 4.5 feet, respectively), but you can often place it under a table or tuck it out of the way until needed. With the addition of a self-emptying base, it takes up far more room.

How much time does a robot vacuum save?

“They could also potentially lessen the amount of time you have to spend running your full-sized vac.” (iRobot, which makes the top-selling Roomba brand, claims that its robotic vacuums can save owners as much as 110 hours of cleaning a year, or about 2 hours each week.)

Are robot vacuums easy to use?

Well, not quite. While using a robot vacuum to clean your floors is still far easier than sweeping them yourself, they still require (as any experienced robot vacuum user will tell you) a fair amount of care and handling, and you’ll almost certainly need to iron out some kinks during the first few cleanings.

How long does a robot vacuum take to charge?

Charging time under normal conditions is at least 2 hours. For best results, use only the battery type compatible with your robot and ensure that it is an authentic iRobot Lithium Ion/NiMH battery that comes with Roomba or is purchased from iRobot authorized dealers.

How long does a robot battery last?

With proper care, your robot’s battery should last at least 2-3 years before it needs to be replaced. Here are some battery maintenance tips to extend battery life and keep Roomba® cleaning at peak performance: Only use iRobot® batteries.

Do robot vacuums need light?

Your robot probably has optical sensors, which require ambient light to operate. If you find that your vacuum is getting stuck a lot, don’t schedule your cleanings at night. Try 9 am, just after you leave for work (unless you’re working from home).

Do you need a smartphone for a robot vacuum?

If you do not have a smartphone, you still can use your RoboVac as our RoboVacs support controlling them through the buttons on its top. Using these buttons, you can simply start, pause, and recharge the RoboVac.

How does a robot vacuum know where to go?

Most companies developing high-end robot vacuums use visual simultaneous localization and mapping (VSLAM) or LiDAR technology to build a virtual map of the room. These technologies enable the robot vacuum to move around more efficiently, covering an entire level of a home with multiple rooms.

Is robot vacuums powerful?

Based on current reviews, our test data shows bots usually perform very well on hard floors (with no models scoring less than 77% in this aspect of the test), but can really struggle with carpet, corners, and pet hair.
