- Once the perfect brewing temperature has been reached the valve inside the water reservoir opens and the brewing cycle begins.
- The ‘click’ sound indicates that the valve opens and closes for a perfect brewing result.
- The filtered coffee starts flowing into the glass jug.
- Once the water has passed through, the light ring lights up briefly, and the hot-plate is activated for around 35 minutes. The unit switches off automatically afterwards.
- To interrupt the brewing cycle, press the rotary control again to turn the appliance off.
Hint: When preparing less than 8 cups, the glass jug can be removed and the appliance switched off as soon as brewing is complete, i.e. when no more coffee comes out (see Stand-by-mode & switching off).
After the brewing cycle
- Remove the glass jug from the unit. The non-drip valve of the filter holder will close and prevent coffee from dripping onto the hotplate.
- To keep remaining coffee hot, replace the glass jug back onto the hotplate.
- The plate is kept hot for around 35 minutes after brewing is complete. However, it may be turned off by selecting and pressing the rotary control
- Should you wish to start several brewing cycles one after the other, allow the machine to cool down for at least 5 minutes with the reservoir lid open before reusing it. Use cold water only to refill the water reservoir.
Caution: Remember that the water reservoir and the reservoir lid are still hot after the brewing cycle has been completed and hot steam may escape from the reservoir when opening the lid (Caution: Danger of scalding).

Cleaning and care
- Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
- For safety reasons the coffee maker should not be treated with water or liquids and should never be immersed.
- Do not use harsh abrasive cleaners.
After each use:
- Clean the filter system and glass jug: To remove the coffee grounds, open the swing-out filter, take off the lid and lift out the filter insert. Take out the paper filter with the coffee grounds; as a natural substance, the coffee grounds may be composted. The glass jug, its lid, the filter lid and the filter insert may be cleaned in hot soapy water or in the dishwasher.
- The jug lid can be taken off for easy cleaning.
- The individual parts should be thoroughly dried and then re-fitted to the unit
If required:
- Wipe the outer surfaces using a clean damp cloth; dry thoroughly afterwards.
- Wipe the inside of the reservoir with a clean damp cloth. To prevent the outlet-valve of the water reservoir from getting clogged, use a non-fluffy cloth to clean the water reservoir and the glass jug.
Descaling
- Depending on the water quality (lime content) in your area as well as the frequency of use, all thermal household appliances using hot water need descaling (i.e. removal of lime deposits) on a regular basis to warrant proper functioning.
- Any warranty claim will be null and void if the appliance malfunctions because of insufficient descaling.
- The button starts flashing when the unit needs descaling.
- Descaling must not be done right away, but should be done soonest.
- Descaling may also be initiated any time prior to the button flashing.
- For descaling we recommend using a mixture of 6 cups of water and 50 ml of vinegar essence.
- Place a paper filter into the plastic filter (without using ground coffee).
- Fill the cold descaling solution into the water reservoir.
- Turn the rotary control to and press it. The light ring, the main indicator light and are lit.
- Pour away the descaling solution once it has passed through the system. Do not pour descalers down enamel sinks. Do not use the descaling solution a second time.
- Once descaling has finished, the light ring starts flashing.
- To clean the machine after descaling operate it twice or three times with fresh cold water only (without using ground coffee). To start the process, select the symbol and press the rotary control .
Disposal
Devices marked with this symbol must be disposed of separately from your
household waste, as they contain valuable materials which can be recycled.
Proper disposal protects the environment and human health. Your local
authority or retailer can provide information on the matter.
If a fault occurs…
- If the brewing cycle takes longer than normal, or
- If the valve of the water reservoir has become leaky
- descale the water reservoir (see section Cleaning and care/Descaling).
- If hot water is ejected through the reservoir lid, or
- If the valve does not open although the boiling process is complete,
the water reservoir has been overfilled.
- When filling the water reservoir be careful not to exceed the maximum water level of 8 cups and not to remain below the 3-cup mark for medium-sized coffee cups.
