Product Information RT850T Electric Heating Solid State Relay
The RT850T Solid State Relay is an electronic device designed to control a line voltage resistive load from a 24V control signal or dry contact. It has a built-in 24 V transformer and is equipped with an LED for visual confirmation of load switching. The relay can be used with a short-cycled thermostat (15 seconds) to provide precise temperature control. The RT850T is compatible with 2-wire mechanical or battery-operated thermostats as well as 3-wire (R,C,W) thermostats.

Warranty

Resideo warrants this product to be free from defects in workmanship or materials, under normal use and service, for a period of three (3) years from the date of first purchase by the original purchaser. If at any time during the warranty period the product is determined to be defective due to workmanship or materials, Resideo shall repair or replace it (at Resideo’s option). If the product is defective
- return it, with a bill of sale or other dated proof of purchase, to the place from which you purchased it; or
- call Resideo Customer Care at 1-800-831-2823. Customer Care will make the determination whether the product should be returned to the following address:
Resideo Return Goods, 1985 Douglas Dr. N., Golden Valley, MN 55422, or whether a replacement product can be sent to you. This warranty does not cover removal or reinstallation costs. This warranty shall not apply if it is shown by Resideo that the defect was caused by damage which occurred while the product was in the possession of a consumer. Resideo’s sole responsibility shall be to repair or replace the product within the terms stated above. RESIDEO SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES RESULTING, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, FROM ANY BREACH OF ANY WARRANTY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, OR ANY OTHER FAILURE OF THIS PRODUCT.

Product Usage Instructions
- Disconnect power before installing the relay to prevent electrical shock.
- Connect the relay as per the wiring diagrams in Figures 1 & 2 of the manual.
- Secure the relay to an electrical box via its two mounting holes.
- Provide enough space above the heatsink for warm air to escape.
- Return power to the heating system.
- Increase the thermostat setpoint above the ambient temperature to activate the relay. Check if the relay’s LED is lit and if the heater is turned on.
- Provide an overload protection and disconnect as required.
Application
The RT850T Solid State Relay is designed to control a line voltage resistive load from a 24V control signal or dry contact. The relay is equipped with an LED for visual confirmation of load switching and can be used with a shortcycled thermostat (15 seconds) to provide precise temperature control. The RT850T has a built-in 24 V transformer and is compatible with 2-wire mechanical or battery-operated thermostats as well as 3-wire (R,C,W) thermostats.
Installation
- All wiring must comply with national and local electrical code regulations.
- The installation should be carried out by an electrician.
- The relay must be installed on a 4 x 4 electrical box where the ambient temperature is between -4°F and 140°F (-20°C to 60°C).
- Position the relay such that the heatsink’s fins are vertical or facing up. Provide enough space above the heatsink for warm air to escape
- Disconnect power before installing the relay to prevent electrical shock.
- Connect the relay (see typical wiring diagrams in Figures 1 & 2 on opposite page).
- Secure the relay to an electrical box via its two mounting holes.
- Return power to the heating system.
- Increase the thermostat setpoint above the ambient temperature in order to activate the relay. Check if the relay’s LED is lit and if the heater is turned on.
