SIEMENS 4 Pole WL Low Voltage Switchgear

Product Information

The 4 Pole WL Low Voltage Switchgear is a type of switchgear that provides neutral isolation capability which is advantageous for low voltage switchgear applications where multiple separately derived power sources are individually grounded. This switchgear is equipped with a 4 pole breaker that eliminates the problem of multiple neutral grounding points and multiple paths for ground fault and normal neutral current when only one main breaker is closed at a time. It is rated for UL 1066 Listed (ANSI C37) Listed Breakers and has frame ratings for Frame Size 2 and Frame Size 3. The WL Power Circuit Breaker is also part of this switchgear and has various ratings and applicable rating plug ranges depending on the frame size.

Product Usage Instructions

To use the 4 Pole WL Low Voltage Switchgear, follow these instructions:

  1. Ensure that the switchgear is installed and wired correctly according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. For a typical 3-phase 4-wire Main-Main or Main-TieMain low voltage switchgear application, solidly connect the neutral throughout the equipment and ground (bond) the neutral at each incoming source.
  3. For a low voltage switchgear application where multiple separately derived power sources are individually grounded, use the 4 pole breaker in conjunction with traditional residual or zero sequence ground fault to prevent nuisance ground fault tripping and/or failure to trip on ground fault.
  4. If using a 4 Pole main breaker, ensure that only one main breaker is closed at a time to eliminate the problem of multiple neutral grounding points and multiple paths for ground fault and normal neutral current.
  5. Refer to the WL Power Circuit Breaker ratings and applicable rating plug range based on the frame size for proper usage and maintenance.

4 pole breakers provide the neutral isolation capability that is advantageous for low voltage switchgear applications where multiple separately derived power sources are individually grounded. In a typical 3-phase 4-wire Main-Main or Main-Tie-Main low voltage switchgear application the neutral is solidly connected throughout the equipment. Additionally the neutral is grounded (bonded) at each incoming source and this provides multiple paths for ground fault and normal neutral current to flow. If a 3 pole breaker is used in conjunction with traditional residual or zero sequence ground fault, nuisance ground fault tripping and/or failure to trip on ground fault can occur.

With a 4-pole main breaker, the neutral is disconnected (isolated) when the breaker is open and provided that only one main breaker is closed at a time, the problem with multiple neutral grounding points and multiple paths for ground fault and normal neutral current is eliminated.
