IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances especially when children are present, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

  1. READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS.
  2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use any handles or knobs. All chrome surfaces become extremely hot.
  3. To protect against electrical shock, do not place the cord, plug, or appliance in water or other liquid.
  4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
  5. Unplug from the outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow cooling completely before moving, putting on or taking off parts, or before cleaning. Do not attempt to dislodge food when the toaster is plugged in.
  6. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment.
  7. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may cause injury.
  8. Do not use outdoors.
  9. Do not let the cord hang over the edge of the table or counter or touch hot surfaces.
  10. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  11. Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil, water or other hot liquids.
  12. Do not use appliances for other than intended use.
  13. Do not insert oversized foods, metal foil packages, utensils or the plug and power cord in the toast slots as this may create a risk of fire or electric shock.
  14. A fire may occur if the toaster is covered or touching flammable material, including curtains, draperies, walls, overhead cabinets, paper or plastic products, cloth towels, and the like, when in operation.
  15. Do not attempt to dislodge food when the toaster is plugged in.
  16. Do not operate the toaster while unattended.
  17. Before unplugging the toaster, make sure the toast lever/lifter is in the “up” position.
  18. Do not cook, warm, or toast rice cakes, fried foods, or non-bread items.
  19. Do not clean with metal scouring pads. Pieces can break off the pad and contact with electrical parts, resulting in the risk of electrical shock.
  20. Failure to clean the crumb tray may result in a fire hazard.

  1. Extra Wide Toast Slots
  2. Plunger with Toast Lift
  3. Adjustable Browning Control
  4. Cool Touch Exterior
  5. Hinged Crumb Tray (Under)

This appliance is for HOUSEHOLD USE ONLY. It may be plugged into an AC electrical outlet (ordinary household current). Do not use any other electrical outlet.
DO NOT OPERATE THE APPLIANCE IF THE LINE CORD SHOWS ANY DAMAGE, OR IF THE APPLIANCE WORKS INTERMITTENTLY OR STOPS WORKING ENTIRELY.
A short power-supply cord (or detachable power-supply cord) is to be provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. Longer extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use. If an extension cord is used,

  1. The marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance, and
  2. The cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over unintentionally.

POLARIZED PLUG
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug and try again. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.

LINE CORD SAFETY TIPS

  1. Never pull or yank on a cord or the appliance.
  2. To insert the plug, grasp it firmly and guide it into an outlet.
  3. To disconnect the appliance, grasp the plug and remove it from the outlet.
  4. Before each use, inspect the line cord for cuts and/or abrasion marks. If any are found, this indicates that the appliance should be serviced and the line cord replaced.
  5. Never wrap the cord tightly around the appliance, as this could place undue stress on the cord where it enters the appliance and cause it to fray and break.

BEFORE FIRST USE

IMPORTANT
During the first few minutes of initial use, you may notice smoke and/or a slight odor. This is normal and should quickly disappear. It will not recur after the appliance has been used a few more times.
For your safety, always read and understand the Use and Care Manual before attempting to use any electric appliance.

BEFORE USING

  1. Carefully unpack the toaster. Remove all packaging materials, including those which may be inside the toasting slots.
  2. Wipe the exterior surfaces of the base with a soft, moist cloth to remove dust particles collected during packing and handling. Dry thoroughly. Do not use abrasive cleaners. NEVER IMMERSE THE TOASTER, OR CORD, OR PLUG IN WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUID.
  3. Be sure the crumb tray is pushed all the way into the toaster.
  4. Your toaster is now ready to use.

Solid surface countertops can be easily scratched, cracked, scorched, or damaged, especially when exposed to heat. To prevent damage, the following precautions should be observed when using this product:

  • Always use a trivet under heat-generating sources such as Slow Cookers, Toaster Ovens, Skillets, or any other Kitchen Appliance.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE : The toast lever will not stay in the toast (down) position unless the toaster is plugged into the wall outlet.

  1. Be sure no bread or other objects are inside the toast slots. Place the toaster on a flat, level, heat-resistant surface.
Plug the power cord into a 120V AC electrical outlet.

  2. Rotate the adjustable browning control to the desired setting. Setting 1 is the lightest toast setting and setting 5 is the darkest toast setting. Since the browning level of toast is a personal preference, you may want to first experiment to find your ideal preference.

  3. Remove any protective wrappings from foods before placing them in the toast slots. Avoid toasting torn bread or toaster foods, as they may become lodged in the toast slots.

  4. Insert the bread or toaster food into the toast slots. Lower the toast lift/plunger by pressing it down until it locks in the down position. The self-centering guides will automatically center the bread for even toasting. When the toast lift/plunger lever locks in the down position, the toast cycle will begin.

  5. When the toast cycle is complete, the toast will pop up and the toaster will automatically turn off.

  6. To stop or interrupt any toasting cycle, rotate the Adjustable Browning Control Dial counter-clockwise to the CANCEL setting during the toast cycle. The bread will pop up and the toaster will turn off. NEVER force the carriage up manually to cancel the toasting cycle. This may cause damage to the toaster. Always use the CANCEL feature.

CAUTION : Due to the possible risk of fire, DO NOT cook toaster pastries in this toaster. Use a toaster oven instead. If a toaster must be used:

  • NEVER use cracked or broken toaster pastries.
  • NEVER leave the toaster unattended.
  • ALWAYS use the lightest toast setting.
  • The toaster should NEVER be operated by children. Fillings will become hot and may cause burns.

CLEANING AND STORAGE

This appliance requires little maintenance. It contains no user-serviceable parts. Do not attempt to repair it yourself. Any servicing that requires disassembly, other than cleaning, must be performed by a qualified appliance repair technician.

TO CLEAN:
Be sure the toaster is unplugged before cleaning.
NOTE : If the toaster is used daily, it is recommended that the crumb tray be cleaned weekly.
Wipe the toaster exterior with a clean, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Do not put cord or plug in water or other liquids.

CRUMB TRAY: To prevent electric shock, be sure the toaster is unplugged from the wall outlet. Remove the crumb tray by pulling the crumb tray away from the bottom of the toaster. Discard the crumbs over a sink or garbage can and wipe tray with a clean cloth. Replace the crumb tray, pushing in firmly so that it is fully inserted in the bottom of the toaster.
TO STORE:
Be sure all parts are clean and dry before storing. Store the appliance in its box or in a clean, dry place. Never store it while it is hot. Never wrap the cord tightly around the appliance; keep it loosely coiled or use the cord wrap underneath the toaster.

HELPFUL HINTS FOR TOASTING

  • ALWAYS remove all protective wrappings from food before placing in the toast slots.
  • For best results, clean the crumb tray frequently.
  • Toasting can be affected by the temperature of the bread. Room-temperature bread may toast differently than bread that has been refrigerated, even at the same toast setting.
  • Moisture content affects toasting. Fresh bread and bagels will have a higher moisture content than those purchased from the bread section in a supermarket. A second, shorter toasting cycle may be required to reach the desired doneness.
  • Thin bread or sweet bread browns more quickly and should be toasted in a lighter setting.
  • When toasting a single slice, you may notice variations in bread color from side to side.
  • When toasting more than one slice of bread, use slices of similar size, thickness and freshness.
  • Do not reheat or toast buttered bread.
  • Do not block the toast slot openings.
  • To remove food that becomes lodged in the toast slots, disconnect the toaster from the wall outlet and allow the toaster to cool. Turn the toaster upside down and gently shake. Do not use a fork or other utensil, as it could damage the heating element or result in risk of fire or electrical shock.
  • Do NOT force the carriage up manually to cancel the toasting cycle. This may cause damage to the toaster. Always use the CANCEL feature.

FAQs

What not to do when using a toaster?****

Never stick anything into a toaster – you’ll be risking a severe electric shock. Make sure you clean out the crumb tray frequently. This will help keep your toaster working properly and prevent fire. If you notice an odd smell or any sparking, unplug the toaster immediately and contact the retailer and/or manufacturer.

How long should toasters last?****

While toasters can range in price and features, most toasters have an average lifespan of six to eight years. You can extend the life of your appliance by cleaning it regularly to remove excess breadcrumbs and additional food particles.

Why do toasters stop working?****

Shaking a toaster to get the crumbs out, banging it around, or sticking sharp objects into the slots can also damage the delicate heating elements or the electrical connections, causing the toaster to fail sooner. Often, it’s a combination of these things that causes a toaster to fail.

Do toasters toast both sides of the bread?****

A toaster is a compact kitchen appliance that specializes in making toasted bread, bagels, and even some pastries quickly. Toasters have coils facing either side of the item, enabling them to deliver an even level of cooking to both sides.

Does the toaster use a heating effect?****

Electrical Heating Appliances: The heating effect of current is utilized in the working of electrical heating appliances such as electric iron, electric kettle, electric toaster, electric oven, room heaters, water heaters (geysers), etc.

How often do you need to clean a toaster?****

How often you need to clean your toaster depends on how often you use it. If you’re a daily toaster, empty the crumb trays once a week. If you use it less frequently, opt for monthly cleaning. Frequency: Clean weekly or monthly, depending on use.

Can the toaster be repaired?****

Common toaster repairs include servicing the latch assembly, servicing the chassis, recalibrating the thermostat, and servicing the solenoid.

How does a 2 slice toaster work?****

A toaster uses infrared radiation to heat a piece of bread (see How Thermoses Work for information on infrared radiation). When you put your bread in and see the coils glow red, the coils are producing infrared radiation. The radiation gently dries and chars the surface of the bread.

How can I improve the efficiency of my toaster?****

Only using the number of slots needed will make your toaster more efficient and help reduce uneven browning – for example, if you’re only toasting one slice of bread but two slots heat up, one side will end up being browner than the other.

Can you open a toaster to clean it?****

If the appliance has a removable tray in the bottom or a bottom that opens, open it and use a pastry brush to remove crumbs from the toaster and into the trash can. Turn the toaster upside down and shake out the crumbs from the toast slots into the trash can.
