FAQs
How do I use my handheld vacuum?
Press the power button to turn the handheld vacuum on and off. Use the tapered tip on the handheld vacuum to clean tight spaces or add an accessory to the end.
How do I use the cord wrap?
To store the unit, wrap up the cord, leaving some slack. Use the hook-and-loop fastener to hold the cord in place.
When and how do I empty the dust cup?
For optimal performance, empty the dust cup each time you vacuum, or when debris reaches the MAX FILL line. To access the dust cup, press the two release latches at the same time and slide out the dust cup.
- Hold the dust cup over a trash receptacle. Press the Empty button (with the trash can icon) on the front of the dust cup and pull open the lid until it clicks and locks open.
- Tap gently to empty contents and remove any debris from the cone-shaped screen inside the dust cup.
- Close the dust cup lid, until it clicks into place.
- To reinstall the dust cup, slide in the front end first, then the back. Make sure both sides click completely into place.
When and how do I clean the filters?
Filters may need to be cleaned if the vacuum stops picking up dirt, if airflow
is restricted, or if you notice lighter or no suction.
For optimal performance, clean filters regularly. Between cleanings, lightly
tap filters over a trash receptacle to remove dust and debris as needed. Rinse
the pre-motor foam and felt filters twice a month, or as needed.
- Remove the dust cup from the handheld vacuum by pressing the two latches on the bottom.
- Remove the filter housing from the dust cup.
- Pull out the pre-motor foam and felt filters from the housing.
- Rinse both filters with cold water only.
- Allow filters to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
- When the filters are completely dry, reinstall them. Insert the felt filter into the housing, with the tab facing out., then insert the foam filter.
- Insert the filter housing into the dust cup until it clicks into place.
- Reinstall the dust cup into the handheld vacuum, until it clicks into place. Rinse the post-motor filter once every 9 months or as needed.
- Press the filter access latch on the top of the handheld vacuum (under the Shark® badge) and lift off the filter cover.
- Pull out the post-motor filter.
- Rinse with cold water only.
- Allow filter to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
Note: Do not place filters in the dishwasher or washing machine.
What should I do if my vacuum doesn’t turn on?
Check the power outlet by plugging in another appliance or plugging the vacuum into a different outlet. Make sure the power button is turned ON. If the vacuum still doesn’t have power, it may have overheated. The vacuum cleaner is equipped with a motor protective thermostat. If for some reason your vacuum overheats, the thermostat will automatically turn the unit off. Typically, overheating is caused by a clogged airway. It may take approximately 60 minutes for the unit to cool. Perform the following steps to clear the clog while the vacuum cools.
1. Turn off the vacuum and unplug it.
2. Detach the dust cup and position it over a trash receptacle. Press the
Empty button to open the lid and release debris and dust into the trash. Clear
away any debris from the cone-shaped screen inside the dust cup, then close
the lid.
3. Remove the pre-motor foam and felt filters from the housing in the dust
cup. Tap filters clean over a trash can to remove any excess dirt and debris.
4. Reinsert the filters, placing the felt filter in first, followed by the
foam filter. Reinstall the housing into the top of the dust cup.
5. Reassemble the handheld vacuum.
6. Once the unit has cooled for 60 minutes, plug it back in and turn it on.

What should I do if there is too much suction?
The vacuum cleaner has strong suction power. If the suction is too strong try using an accessory to clean areas such as drapes, upholstery, or your car. Additional accessories are available for purchase at sharkaccessories.com.
Why does the exhaust air blow towards me?
Due to the vacuum’s strong suction power and the design of the exhaust grill, it is normal for the vacuum to emit warm air while it cleans. This is no cause for concern.
What should I do if my handheld vacuum feels warm?
Due to the strong suction power of the vacuum, it is normal to experience
warmth around the filter exhaust area during or after use. Turn off the vacuum
and wait for 10 minutes for it to cool down.
