Essential Oils Guide
Essential oils are extracts from plants and are commonly used in aromatherapy,
where they are believed to have a myriad of health benefits. When used in a
diffuser, these oils are diluted (for 75 mL of water, about 3-4 drops should
be sufficient) and the water is then diffused and gradually released into the
air.
However, there are some important things to consider before using essential oils in your diffuser, as some people have allergies or sensitivities to certain extracts. Many essential oils are toxic or potentially fatal to pets or are unsafe for use around children, or pregnant/breastfeeding women.
In addition, be careful not to get any essential oils directly on your skin – they can be abrasive when undiluted. Check with your healthcare provider if you are in any doubt as to this product’s suitability. If you or someone else has a negative reaction to essential oil, seek medical assistance immediately.
This table outlines some of the benefits claimed to be associated with the following essential oils:
Essential oil | Scent | Benefits |
---|---|---|
Bergamot | Sweet, citrus, spicy | Reducing inflammation, improving mood |
Cinnamon | Spicy, sweet, woody | Increasing focus |
Chamomile | Sweet, herbal, refreshing | Calming, better sleep |
Clove bud | Fruity, spicy, sweet | Antimicrobial, pain relief |
Eucalyptus | Minty, camphorous, sharp | Antibacterial, decongesting |
Jasmine | Sweet, rich, green | Relaxing, calming |
Lavender | Floral, sweet, herbal | Calming, soothing |
Lemon | Citrus, clean, fresh | Reducing inflammation, invigorating |
Lemongrass | Fresh, sharp, grassy | Refreshing, antibacterial |
Rosemary | Herbal, woody, energising | Increasing focus and concentration |
Sandalwood | Deep, woody, earthy | Improving mood |
Tea tree | Strong, fresh, medicinal | Purifying, cleansing |
