Finishing

  • There are different options for finishing the skirt hem. It all depends on the fabric, the sewing machine and… your inspiration! Here are a few suggestions :
    1. Fold hem by 1 (3/8’’) or 2 (3/4’’) cm to wrong side and topstitch using a straight stitch (best with straight or A-line skirt)
    2. Use the rolled hem technique with your serger or use a short zigzag stitch along raw edge for lettuce effect (best with skirts like A and E)
    3. Leave the hem as is (if your fabric does not fray). This finish is very common in ready-to-wear stores.
    4. Sew lace trimming to the right side of skirt hem.
