Work Safety Guidelines

  • Check the maximum permissible load of the rotator, and the weight of the load to be lifted.
  • NEVER OVERLOAD THE ROTATOR. Make sure that the hydraulic system is at the operating temperature. Check the speed and directions of movements and the functioning of the control levers. Lift the load up from the base before moving and rotating the load.
  • Never leave a suspended load unsupervised, because the non-pressurised rotator has no brake torque, and there is a risk of the load rotating due to wind or unbalanced load. In order to stop the rotating motion of the load apply counter-motion, if necessary. Check that the hydraulic hoses do not hit any obstacles. Rupture of a hose or breakage of the coupler could cause the load to fall or continue rotating. Place the crane into a transport or storage position such that the crane does not rest on the rotator.

Transport and Storage

  • The hydraulic connections of the rotator must be fitted with protective caps. Protect the unit against humidity and temperature fluctuations.
Installation
  • Make sure that the loader is supported such that the loader stays out even when it is not pressurised.

Connection of the rotator to the loader.

  • The rotator is connected to the end of the boom of the loader with a universal joint i.e. a link. The rotator must always be hanging freely and vertically in the direction of the axle. The link pins must be locked with cotter pins. The rotator’s swing motion must be limited and the hydraulic hoses must be protected against damages. It is advisable to use with the rotor links produced by Finn-Rotor Oy because they ensure the best possible compatibility with the rotator. The rotator is fastened to the bushing of the lifting accessory firmly with a pin, which is locked with cotter pins.

Connection of the rotator to the hydraulic system

  • Before installation clean the hydraulic system carefully. Use only the specified hydraulic oil SAE 32 or SAE 46. The manufacturer recommends using the SAE 46 oil, which ensures better operational efficiency. Make sure that the couplings, threads, and gaskets are in impeccable condition. The hoses for the rotating motion of the rotator are connected to each other with connectors before connecting to the rotator, and the line is flushed for about 5 minutes, during which period oil from the valve is passed through the hoses.
  • The rotator is connected to the loader’s control valve with the respective hoses and pipelines.
  • The loader must be equipped with pressure relief valves that limit the pressure delivered to the rotator to a max 250 bar. If the pressure could be higher, the hydraulic lines of the rotator must be fitted with pressure relief valves. The oil flow actuating the rotator’s rotating motion is limited by throttles. The rotating direction and the clamshell movements must match the markings on the control levers.

Note the maximum line pressure when connecting the bushings of the rotator.

  • The low-pressure channel i.e. the 0 line in the bushing must be connected to the GO channels (marked also with a machined O symbol). The low-pressure channel is, for instance, the channel for opening the grapple or the clamshell.
  • When opening the clamshell please note that the cylinder should not be operated to the end of the stroke such that there is residual pressure in the channel, because this pressure causes excessive load on the rotator.

Operating Instructions

  • Be careful when operating the valve and the loader, and always observe the safety instructions of the loader. During operations make sure that the hydraulic system does not overheat, and that there is sufficient oil in the hydraulic system.
  • During the operations the rotator should suspend freely. Never use the rotator for pushing or twisting, using other operating movements of the loader. Loading may be carried out only with the loader, and the loader may not be used to drag the rotator, e.g. with the help of a tractor.
  • When the loader is not in use, always leave the boom in a position where cylinders are not under pressure. Never leave the loader supported only by the rotator.

Maintenance Instructions

  • Add Vaseline regularly to the grease nipples of the rotator.
  • Regularly check the tightness of the stud bolts of the rotator. The first time check the tightness after 8 hours from commissioning, and thereafter every six months.
  • In case of a flanged rotator (CR F) check the torque of the flange tightening bolt regularly every 8 hours.
  • If the rotator is not used for an extensive period of time, the rotate the unit from time to time in order to maintain a film of oil between the sealing surfaces. In case of long-term storage make sure that pressure is released from the rotator.

Restrictions of Use

  • The rotator may only be used with timber and piece-goods loaders. The rotator must be connected to the loader with a universal joint.

Warranty Period

  • Unless agreed otherwise, the warranty term is two years in case of one shift operations.

Scope and Limitations of Warranty.

  • The warranty covers identified defects in raw materials and workmanship. The warranty does not cover damages caused by normal wear and tear, negligence, incorrect use, incorrect installation, or defective maintenance.
  • Any damages must be promptly reported to the manufacturer, in order to establish whether or not the damage is covered by the warranty.
  • The warranty covers a replacement part or repair of the part, if the repairs result in the condition of the equipment to be equivalent to a new one. The warranty does not cover indirect costs or loss of revenue. The owner of the equipment shall cover the transport and installation costs of the equipment/ warranty part.
  • The warranty shall be void, if the equipment has been modified so that it differs from the original because of e.g. additional structures, structural changes, or replacement parts, other than the original parts, or if the equipment has been disassembled without the manufacturer’s consent. The warranty shall be void, if the installation has been performed by any installer, other than the installation workshop.
