BEFORE BEGINNING

https://qrs.ly/kbe80w0

We suggest that you first scan the MIR QR Code and watch the video tutorials, Friendship Bracelet Maker: Initiation to Bracelet-Making, to quickly learn the knotting techniques.

Read fully through to the end of the instructions before beginning the projects. Make sure to follow each step and refer to the video tutorials. Have fun!

SET UP BRACELET STRINGS

  1. There are 5 levels of difficulty:
    ①②③ Learn
    ④⑤ Practice
    ⑥⑦ Try new things
    ⑧⑨ Take-on challenge
    ⑩ Flaunt your skills

  2. Start with pattern ①. Select the colors of the strings used in pattern ① and measure according to the instructions on the template.

SYMMETRICAL PATTERNS

Patterns ①②③④⑤⑥⑦⑧⑨⑩ have the same color strings mirrored in the right order on both sides of the middle.
3. Fold the strings in half and make a knot to make a 2 cm (1 in) simple loop.

SET UP TEMPLATE IN THE MAKER

4. A. Open the Maker and take out the two cylinders. Keep the lid open.

B. Take the small cylinder and insert it into the pattern template.

C. Inside the Maker, place the small cylinder with the pattern template on top of the slot that is furthest from the edge.

D. Take the large cylinder and slide it into the pattern template.

E. Inside the Maker, place the large cylinder on top of the slot that is Closest to the edge.

F. Close the lid.

SET UP STRINGS ON THE MAKER

5. Hook the bracelet loop onto the tightening wheel at the top of the Maker and lock.

6. Organize each string and insert them into position in the foam organizer.

Tip: when starting the bracelet, try to arrange the strings without overlapping them.

MEASURE FINAL BRACELET LENGTH

Ask a supervising adult for permission before using scissors to cut out the ruler along the edge of the instruction sheet. Use it to measure your wrist to know the length of the finished bracelet.

HOW TO READ THE PATTERN SEQUENCE

https://qrs.ly/kbe80w0

Follow the instructions and video tutorials to learn how to read the pattern sequences. There are two methods you can use to follow friendship bracelet patterns: the standard row by row method as shown on patterns ①③⑤⑥⑦⑩ and the segment knotting method as shown on patterns ②④⑧⑨.Al patterns can be followed using the row by row method. To try segment knotting in patterns ②④⑧⑨, refer to step at the end of the instructions.

ROW BY ROW METHOD

Make the first knot on the left next to row ① . Tie each knot moving from left to right and following the rows. When you reach the end of the sequence, return to row ①.

HOW TO MAKE FRIENDSHIP BRACELET KNOTS

Follow the instructions and video tutorials to learn how to make each knot.

There are 4 types of knots.
In pattern ①, there are the forward and backward knots.
In pattern ②, there are the forward-backward and backward-forward knots.

Tip: to tighten each knot, pull each string in the opposite direction.

Tip: if one of the knots pop and shows the wrong color string, pull on the passive string (the one not used to make the knot) as shown in the video tutorials.

FORWARD KNOT
The leading string begins on the left and ends up on the right.
With the leading string, make the shape shown in step B.
Repeat this move two times to make 1 forward knot. The resulting knot is the color of the leading string.

BACKWARD KNOT

FORWARD-BACKWARD KNOT

FORWARD-BACKWARD KNOT
The leading string begins on the right and ends up on the right.
With the leading string, make the shape shown in step B.
With the same string, make the shape shown in step C.

MAKE THE BRACELET

Rotate the instruction wheel to reveal the next steps while advancing in the bracelet sequence.

Rotate the tightening wheel for more knotting space if needed.

FINISH THE BRACELET

Complete enough pattern sequences to reach desired length.

Make 2 finishing braids 8 cm (3 in) long as shown. Refer to the video tutorials. Separate ail strings into two equal groups. If there are more than 3 strings in each group, combine the strings together to have 3 clusters.

Tie the end of each braid with two simple knots as shown and then repeat step 14 for the second group.

Cut excess string using scissors after asking a supervising adult’s permission.

To unhook finished bracelet, press AND turn the tightening wheel.

Add a button on the end of the bracelet using two braids and make two simple knots.

Add a drop of clear nail polish or craft glue to secure the knots at the end of the braids and wait until dry.

Tip: before wearing the bracelet, gently pull on each side to make sure it is well secured.

STORE EVERYTHING

Open the Maker, put the pattern templates under the elastic and store the string and embellishments in the storage slots.

ASYMMETRICAL PATTERNS

Patterns ⑤⑥⑦ don’t have the same color strings mirrored in the right order on both sides of the middle.

Measure each string color according to the dimensions on instructions.

Without folding the strings in half, tie 2 separate knots 2 cm (1 in) apart.

SEGMENT KNOTTING METHOD

To go faster, choose to segment knot almost any pattern by combining similar consecutive knots with the same leading string. Tie the first knot of the highlighted segment ① and tie all consecutive knots in that sequence. Move on to the next segment. When you reach the last knot of the last segment, return to segment ①.

ADDING BEADS

Before adding the beads, twist the end of each string and add 1 cm (% in) of clear nail polish. Wait until dry.

Insert a bead onto the string as shown.
Refer to the video tutorials.

Tip: avoid submerging the bracelet in water.

CHANGING STRING COLORS FOR A NEW SEQUENCE

Some pattem’s sequences start and end in different string color order like in pattern &. When the first sequence is finished, reorganize the strings in the foam organizer according to the new order. Continue with the same types of knots, but change the leading string color according the new string position.
