SIEMENS BB-55 and BB-55R Battery Box
INTRODUCTION
The Model BB-55 or BB-55R from Siemens Industry, Inc. is used to house BTX-1 (31 AH) and BTX-2 (55 AH) batteries for the MXL/MXLV/MXL-IQ System. The BB-55 is black and the BB-55R is red. The backbox can be mounted on a flat surface with four user-supplied bolts that are a maximum of 3/8 inch in diameter.
INSTALLATION
Prior to installation, consider the following:
- Weight and size of the enclosure.
- Local codes.
- Select a clean, dry, shock and vibration free surface.
- Position the backbox directly beneath the MXL enclosure to which it will be wired, lining up the knockouts in the BB-55 with the knockouts in the MXL enclosure.
- Position the backbox so that it is clear of obstructions and the front door opens freely.
- Mark the locations of the two upper mounting bolts of the backbox on the wall. (See Figure 2.)
- Drill the two holes located in the previous step and screw in the top bolts, leaving a small gap between the wall and each top bolt.
- Place the backbox over the two top bolts and allow it to slide down over the bolts.
- Mark, drill, and install the two bottom bolts in the backbox.
- Tighten all four bolts securely against the back wall of the backbox.
- Place the batteries in the bottom of the BB-55.

WIRING
The main AC power line must be turned OFF prior to installation.
Wire in accordance with local codes and NEC 760.
- Remove the knockouts in the top of the battery box and bottom of MXL enclosure for entry of battery wiring.
- Connect the Battery Wire Assembly to the batteries in the BB-55. If a longer wire is required, use a minimum of 12 AWG
