Use and maintenance:
Please do not eat anything before playing the harmonica, food scraps and crumbs may fall into the harmonica’s comb. If necessary, rinse your mouth with clean water before playing the harmonica to prevent contamination from crumbs or food residue. Please clean the harmonica only with a dry cloth. Shake off dust or crumbs accordingly or blow them out. Store the harmonica in a dry place and in the harmonica box.
Choice of the key:
To play the “cross” common among blues musicians, you should use a harmonica whose tuning is a fourth above the key of the piece being played. The following table gives you an overview of which harmonica fits which key:

The tones of the harmonica:
The technical term for the “sound channel” is “comb”. The comb consists of ten tone chambers. On the following diagram you can see all available tones of a diatonic C major harmonica.

The main playing area is located in the 4th to 7th chamber. On a C major harmonica, this corresponds to the C major scale. Since the ratio of the notes to each other is always the same on diatonic harmonicas, i.e. only the pitch changes, the complete A major scale would be found here, for example, on an A major harmonica.
