Preparing for Installation

Automatic start-up. Disconnect mains power and render the equipment inoperable before attempting repairs or maintenance.

NOTE: Follow shutdown procedure in owner’s manual if generator set is running.
Proceed as follows before performing any maintenance to prevent the generator set from accidental startup:

  1. Lift lid, press OFF mode button on control panel, and allow unit to cool completely.

  2. Set MLCB (generator disconnect) to OFF (OPEN) position.

  3. Remove 7.5A DC fuse.

  4. Turn off utility (mains) power supply to transfer switch.

    • In service rated transfer switches, turn main breaker OFF.
    • In non-service-rated switches, turn power feeder breaker OFF.
NOTE: The T1, T2 (if applicable), N1, and N2 fuse s could be removed from the transfer switch by an electri-cal contractor instead of turning off the normal power cir-cuit breaker.
  5. With generator set shut down, remove controller fascia (2013–2015 units) or intake side panel (2016 and newer units), and front panel.

  6. See Figure 1 or Figure 2. Remove customer con-nection panel cover (A).

Installing the Breather Heater

400 Series Engines

  1. See Figure 3. Wrap breather heater (A) aroun d breather hose, evenly spaced as shown, with lea d wires at the bottom. Wrap breather heater an d hose with silicone tape (provided) to secure heater.3
Figure 3. Wrapping the Breather Hose (400 Series)

  2. See Figure 4. Route lead wires beneath and behind engine as shown.
Figure 4. Routing Heater Wires (400 Series)

  3. Pass lead wires through harness grommet (B) in engine divider panel. Secure all wires with plastic wire ties at least 0.5 in (1 cm) away from fuel hoses.

  4. Proceed to Connecting Lead Wires.

800 Series Engines

  1. See Figure 5. Wrap breather heater (C) around breather hose, evenly spaced as shown, with lead wires at the top. Wrap breather heater and hos e with silicone tape (provided) to secure heater.
Figure 5. Breather Hose (800 Series)

  2. Route lead wires between intake elbow (D) and mixer (E), as shown.

  3. Pass lead wires through harness grommet (F) i n engine divider panel.

  4. Secure all wires with plastic wire ties at least 0.5 in (1 cm) away from fuel hoses.

  5. Proceed to Connecting Lead Wires.

500/1000 Series Engines

  1. See Figure 6. Remove airbox cover (G), intake elbow (H), and air filter (I).

  2. See Figure 7. Remove three mounting screws behind engine divider panel to disconnect snorkel (J).

  3. See Figure 8. Remove screws from airbox base (K).

  4. See Figure 9. Remove screws attaching mixer to intake manifold (access screws behind divide r panel). Set airbox base and mixer (L) aside, with wires still connected to mixer, to expose breather hose (M).
NOTE: See Figure 10. For units with the 1000 Series engines (2016–Present), the lower mixer screw is acces-sible through a hole (N) in the engine divider panel. Remove plastic cover from the hole and set aside for reassembly.

  5. See Figure 11. Wrap breather heater (P) aroun d breather hose, evenly spaced as shown, with lead wires at the bottom. Wrap breather heater and hose with silicone tape (provided) to secure heater.

  6. Pass lead wires through harness grommet (Q) in the engine divider panel.

  7. Secure all wires with plastic wire ties at least 0.5 in (1 cm) away from fuel hoses.

  8. Install mixer with air box base and snorkel.

  9. Install intake elbow, air filter, and air box cover.

  10. Proceed to Connecting Lead Wires.

Connecting Lead Wires

2016–Present Units

  1. See Figure 12. Pass lead wires through the customer connection panel grommet (A).
  2. See Figure 13. Connect heater lead wires to T 1 terminal (B) and Neutral stud (C) as shown. NOTE: Wire with ring terminal connects to Neutral ba r stud.
    2013–2015 Units
See Figure 14. Connect heater lead wires to T1 terminal (D) and Neutral stud (E) as shown.

NOTE: Wire with ring terminal connects to Neutral bar stud.

Completing Installation

Engine damage. Verify proper type and quantity of oil prior to starting engine. Failure to do so could result in engine damage.
