General Data

This kit will be installed in all of the variable speed outdoor units that are installed in coastal environments. This kit will prevent the variable speed drives from corrosion due to excessive salt deposits.

Kit Contents:

Field Suppllid Tools and Supplies

  • Silicone (for filling holes and gaps)
  • 1/4” Socket and 5/16” Socket for drill
  • Scissors (to adjust foam if needed)
  • Duct Tape

Inspection:
Check carefully for any shipping damage. This must be reported to and claims made against the transportation company immediately. Any missing parts should be reported to your supplier at once and replaced with authorized parts only.

Installation Instructions

Note: For all installations, make sure the surface is clean and clear of debris to make sure proper adhesion.

Foam Installation onto the Control Box Cover

  1. Disconnect the main power supply to the outdoor unit and wait for 2 minutes before installation.
  2. Hemove the control box cover from the unit. See Figure 1, p. 5.
**Figure 1. Control Box Cover Removal

**

  1. Place the control box cover on a stable surface with the inside surface facing upwards. See Figure 2, p. 5.
    **Figure 2. Control Box Cover

**

  1. Remove the adhesive backing from both the side foams.

  2. Align and attach the side foams to each of the longer side edges of the control box cover. See
    Figure 3, p. 5.
Note: If the cover is shorter, cut the foams to the correct length.

  3. Remove the adhesive backing from the bottom foam.

  4. Attach the bottom foam onto the bottom flange of the control box cover and between the side foams. See Figure 3, p. 5.

Foam Installation on the Unit

  1. Install Duct Tape.
    • Cut two (2) pieces of duct tape of length 1 ½” and width ¾” respectively.
    • Attach one (1) piece of duct tape over the gap near the copper tube entry. See Figure 4, p. 6.
    • Attach the other piece of duct tape over the two (2) holes in the bottom plate. See Figure 4, p. 6.
Note: If required, use silicone to fill the holes.

  1. Install Foam in the Control Box.

    • Remove the adhesive backing from two (2) grommets.

    • Attach one (1) grommet onto the compressor harness. Make sure the split side of the grommet is as closed as possible. See Figure 5, p. 6.

    • Attach the other grommet onto the harness grommet. Make sure the split side of the grommet is as closed as possible. See Figure 5, p. 6

    • Make sure the grommets are sealed properly around the harnesses.

    • Locate three (3) short foam pieces from the kit contents and remove the adhesive backing from all the short foam pieces.

    • Attach two (2) short foam pieces each on the left side and right side of the bottom plate to seal the gaps. See Figure 6, p. 6.

    • Attach the other short foam piece onto the duct tape and the grommet on the copper tube. Make sure the right side face of the short foam piece is flush against the front face of the grommet. See Figure 6, p. 6.

  2. Apply Silicone.

    •  Use silicone to seal gaps around the copper tube and the plastic compressor grommets. See Figure 7, p. 6.

    • Use silicone to seal the gaps between the two sheet metal parts and between the bottom plate and rear wall. See Figure 8, p. 7.

    • Seal the unused screw holes with silicone in the control box. See Figure 9, p. 7.
Note: The number of unused holes may vary depends on the type of variable speed models used.

  3. Install Foam to the Unit Top.

    • Remove the unit top. See Figure 10, p. 7.

    • Remove the fan and fan shroud to gain access to the bottom of the shroud. Take the top foam piece, remove the adhesive backing and attach it onto the top of the existing foam piece on the bottom of the shroud. See Figure 11, p. 7

    • Re-install the fan shroud and unit top. See Figure 12, p. 8.

Re-Install Control Cover Box

  1. Once all previous steps are completed, remove the bottom cover plate. See Figure 13, p. 8.

  2. Re-install the control box cover that was removed earlier. See Figure 14, p. 8.

    • When installing the screws, be careful to not strip the threads of the main unit. If any screws do strip, install a slightly larger screw to ensure the control box cover is fastened securely and the foam underneath is compressed.
    • Make sure that the bottom flange of the control box cover is below the bottom plate of the control box.
    • Make sure that the bottom lip of the bottom plate is compressed against the foam on the control box cover to provide a tight seal around the bottom of the control box cover.
  3. Re-install bottom cover plate. See Figure 15, p. 9.

  4. Connect the power to the unit
