Why do I need to use an extension cord?

Will my device still charge if I use an extension cord?

What’s the difference between a surge protector and an extension cord?
Surge protectors are designed to protect against sudden spikes in electrical current that can damage your devices or even start a fire (like lightning strikes or power surges). Extension cords are designed to simply extend the distance between your device and its power source (like a wall outlet). If you’re using our charger directly connected to a computer’s USB port, it will charge at the same speed as it would if it were connected directly to a wall outlet.
Could I mount this under my desk with command strips?
It’s fairly light so I would guess yes but would use several command strips on the power strip itself and also anchor the power cord a few inches away from the unit so that the weight of the cord is supported by an anchor and now the unit. Should work OK I’m guessing. It is a very nice power strip BTW.
Is the red switch supposed to light up when in the on position?
The red switch does not light on my device. There is a blue LED which I prefer.
Is the cord 5ft or 4ft? One reviewer measured it at 4ft.
Yes. The cord is very short. About 4 ft. Had to use an extension cord.
Is this compatible with smart life? I’d rather keep all my devices on the same app.
This product is not Wi-Fi app controlled. We have AHR-83 which is using Smart Life app to control the outlets, that might fit your needs.
Has anyone had the USB ports stop working? mine have and its only about 2 months old.
Yup mine stopped working at around 2 months.
Is there a way to reset the usb ports? mine stopped working.
The only way to reset is to disconnect from power for a few minutes.
Is the usb port can be used for power without plug? I trying to eliminate the plug for firestick

Approximately 6”x6”x2”.
Would this shut off automatically to prevent any Short circuit Fire
It has a built in 10-amp circuit breaker which should protect from short circuits. But it’s pretty lightweight, I wouldn’t plug in anything like a portable heater or hot plate.
