TECHNICAL DATA

DESCRIPTION

The product is a fire escape intended for the evacuation of homes if there is a fire. All those in the household should familiarise themselves with the product and practice using it correctly. The evacuation route should be clearly marked and in full view, and all persons in the household should be familiar with it. Check at regular intervals that the product is in good condition and ready for immediate use in an emergency. Carry out fire drills to check that the evacuation route is easily accessible and really works for everyone in the household and that all doors, windows, etc. can easily be opened from inside.

ASSEMBLY

NOTE
The product is intended to be installed on the wall in connection with a window or balcony as an emergency evacuation route if there is a fire.

Assembly for evacuation from window

  • The product should be mounted no more than 30 cm from the window with its top-end level with the top edge of the window so that the bottom end of the ladder is at least 50 cm above the ground.
  • Check that the window opens in the direction away from the ladder, so that the ladder can be reached when the window is opened.
  • In side-hung double windows, the window that is to be used as the evacuation route must usually be re-hung so that the hinges are placed on the middle post so that the window frame does not obstruct evacuation. Alternatively, an extra step can be mounted under the evacuation window, about 50 cm from the ladder.

Assembly for evacuation from the balcony

For evacuation from a balcony, the release device should be placed 160-170 cm above the balcony deck and at 50-60 cm from the balcony. The minimum distance to the ground is 50 cm.

INSTALLATION

  1. Check before installation that no parts are missing or damaged.

  2. Lift the product to the right position in relation to the window/balcony to be used as an evacuation route.

  3. Check that the distance to the ground is at least 50 cm.

  4. Check that the release device is easy to reach. The release device should be mounted on the side of the ladder closest to the evacuation route.

  5. Fasten the product temporarily in one of the upper attachment holes, but do not tighten. Put an aluminum washer between the ladder and wall for each attachment hole before screwing in the screws. These washers are not necessary if brackets are used.
    FIG. 4

  6. Check that the product hangs vertically and fasten it temporarily in one of the lower attachment holes, but do not tighten.

  7. Fit all the screws, and screw tight. Wooden walls should be predrilled with a drill with a small diameter.

  8. When all the screws are fitted and tightened, check functionality by pulling the release handle and checking that the ladder opens by virtue of its own weight.

  9. The opening should take place with moderate force on the release handle. If excessive force is necessary, check that the product is flush with the surface of the wall and not pressed against any irregularities. To achieve smooth contact without deformation of the product it may be necessary to use brackets. Check that the lock holes and release device are not obstructed by foreign objects.

  10. If the ladder does not open by virtue of its own weight, check if any of the screws have been overtightened or if any parts are damaged.

WARNING

  • The product must be completely vertical before it is fastened.
  • On completion of the installation, check that the installation has been performed correctly and that the product works correctly.

NOTE

  • Accessories such as screws, bolts, fasteners, or brackets are not supplied and are sold separately. It is important that accessories suit the facade material and are weatherproof.
  • If you are unsure how to assemble the fire escape safely, consult an expert.
  • The product can also be used as an entry and exit for other purposes than emergency evacuation. The release device can be moved down to a ground level so that the ladder can be used as an access route to the building. In this case, the ladder should be locked to prevent unauthorized use and access.
  • The ladder can be cut or mounted higher up on the wall if it is too long. The release device must then be adjusted to the right height.
  • The ladder must be mounted on wall brackets if there is a fence, decorative railing, etc. on the building. Brackets are not included and must be purchased separately.
  • The mounting holes on the product must be used for installation.

USE

WARNING

Talk to everyone in the home about what they should do if there is a fire. Make sure that there are two possible evacuation routes from each bedroom (e.g. door and window). Carry out a fire drill (let the children take part), and decide upon a place outside where everyone can meet after an evacuation.

EVACUATION

Checklist for safe evacuation

  • Have you set up a simple evacuation plan for the home and decided upon a meeting place where the family can gather after the evacuation? (A meeting place makes it easier to check that no one is left in the house.)
  • Have you talked to the whole family, even the children, about how they should evacuate the house if there is a fire?
  • Is there an alternative, safe fire escape route from all the bedrooms?
  • Is it easy to open all the windows and doors that can be used for an evacuation?

On evacuation

  1. Close the door to the room before going out to the fire escape from a window/ balcony to reduce the risk of the fire spreading.

  2. Pull out the release device.
    FIG. 6

  3. Pull out the fire escape with the release handle, and make sure that all the fire escape is opened out.
    FIG. 7Hard-Head-013975-Fold-Out-Fire-Ladder-FIG-2

MAINTENANCE

  • Check the ladder twice a year to ensure that it is safe to use.
  • Look for damage and signs of aging, wear, or weakening of the material in the ladder. Check the ladder carefully when it has been used.
  • Replace it if there is any visible damage. The ladder deteriorates in time, it is therefore recommended to replace it after 6-8 years.
