Verify cable mapping with RJ4 connector
The test verifies the mapping of LAN cables, in CAT5 or CAT6, of type UTP or STP with RJ45 connector by detecting any cabling errors. Operate as follows:

  1. Turn on the instrument by pressing the button

  2. Select the category (CAT5 or CAT6) of the test cable

  3. Select the type (UTP, STP) of the test cable

  4. Connect the test cable ends to the instrument input RJ45 connector and the #1 remote unit, or, if necessary, use the supplied patch cables as shown below:

  5. Press the key . The instrument tests in accordance with the cable side set, providing the message “PASS” for correct testing or the symbol ” ⚠ ” in addition to flashing pairs in case of error on wiring

  6. Press the button to display the length of the cable.

⚠ Attention

  • The connection of the remote unit is necessary for the correct execution of the test
  • Connect the instrument only on cables inactive (not in voltage). Links to active data networks can damage the instrument

Attention

  • The instrument identifies the SPLIT error by flashing the affected
pairs and showing the “SPLIT” symbol to the display

  • Split error condition is detected by the instrument only in the absence
of other error conditions and for cable length of at least 5m (15ft)

Split pairs error description
Inside the mains cables the eight conductors are twisted (twisted) two to two thus forming four pairs: 1-2, 3-6, 4-5, 7-8 and this ensures the performance declared by the manufacturer. The SPLIT PAIRS error condition is the exchange of two conductors belonging to different pairs in both positions of the testable. Pin matching is maintained, but physically the cables of the two pairs are crossed. The two pairs thus crossed affect each other making it difficult, if not impossible, to exchange data at high frequency/speed.

Testing using multiple remote drives
The instrument allows mapping tests to also be performed on multiple cables with RJ45 connector using other (max. 4) optional remote units.

  1. Turn on the instrument by pressing the key
  2. Select the category (CAT5, CAT6) of test cables
  3. Select the type (UTP, STP) of cables with rj45 connector on trial
  4. Connect the end of one of the test cables (ex:#3) to the instrument input RJ45 connectors and the corresponding remote unit (ex:#3)using patch cables as shown in the figure:ULINKS LINKLAN Portable LAN Network Cable Verifier Toot User Manual - Testing using multiple remote drives
  5. Press the SET/UNIT button to select the current remote drive (ex: #3)
  6. Press the button to test the test on the cable under consideration
  7. Disconnect the instrument, connect it to another cable, and repeat operations from point 5

Cable length measurement
The instrument measures the length of cables with UTP/STP RJ45 connectors. Do the following:

  1. Turn on the instrument by pressing the

  2. Enter the programming menu and select the numeric marker (values 0 through 9) to which the cable length type and eventual calibration are associated

  3. Connect the end of the test cable to the input RJ45 connector

  4. Connect the other end of the test cable to the RJ45 connector of the remote unit #1

  5. Press the button measurement function to select the cable length

the button to select the cable length

  6. Press the button to perform the length measurement for the “1-2” pair for RJ45 cables

  7. press the indicator key ← or →  to view and length measure the remaining “3-6”, “4-5”, and “7-8” pairs of the RJ45 cable under consideration

Cable length calibration
To obtain accurate measurements you can calibrate the instrument on the specific cable used. To calibrate, connect the reference cable (known a priori in length) directly to the instrument without the patch cables and follow these steps:

  1. Turn on the instrument by pressing the

  2. Press and hold the SET/UNIT button for 3s and move with the
    indicator to the display shown

  3. Press. The following view is shown:

  4. Press SET/UNIT to select the 0-9 marker and again SET/UNIT to set the length 10 ÷ 250 (unit m) or 30 ÷ 750 (ft unit). The value flashes to display. Use the indicator keys or respectively to decrement ← or → increment the value,

  5. Press the key to save all settings and return to the main view. Return in the view to display YES

  6. Perform the measurement. The values will be considered by the instrument as a reference for that specific length measure.

5 Maintenance

Battery replacement

⚠ Warning If the “ ” symbol appears on the LCD, immediately replace the battery

  1. Turn off the instrument and remove the cable from the input terminal.
  2. Lift the lectern, press on the battery compartment cover tab to open it
