General Questions
What is an Explore Run, and what will my robot do on this run?
An Explore Run is a mandatory run your robot must complete in order for you to be able to use any app features such as home mapping, carpet detection, using no-go zones, and scheduling.
This is the first run your robot will do in your home when you take it out of
the box. To start the Explore Run, turn on your robot, connect to the app, and
follow the instructions on the app screen.
During the Explore Run, your robot will meander around your rooms while it
creates a map of your home’s floor plan. With IQ navigation, your robot does
not need to travel over every square inch of your home to create the map that
will be displayed in the app.
When your robot returns to the dock, you can review the map in the app. If you
are satisfied with the map, you can begin the Carpet Detection Run. If the map
doesn’t look quite right, you can complete an additional Explore Run.
If you’d like to update the map at any time, you can delete the map and have
your robot try again.
To delete your map: Go to the Home Map screen. Select More and then select
Delete.
What should I do if my map doesn’t look right?
If you’re not satisfied with the map your robot created in the app, you can
delete the map and have your robot try again.
To delete your map: Go to the Home Map screen. Select More and then select
Delete.
How does my robot decide where to clean?
During the Explore Run, which is the first run of your robot once connected to the app, your robot will learn your home and create a map of your home. This map will enable your Shark to clean specific rooms and provide the best possible cleaning results. Once the map is created, you can edit, customize or even delete the map and remap your home as needed.
Why is my robot missing some areas while cleaning?
Your robot needs a path of at least 20 inches to navigate through an area.
Partially opened doors, narrow hallways, or clusters of furniture may be
difficult for your robot to navigate. To optimize your cleaning experience,
prep your home by opening doors to rooms you would like it to clean, and
adjust furniture if necessary to allow the robot to enter tighter spaces.
Your robot is programmed to detect and avoid obstacles. If people or pets are
in the robot’s path, it may see them as obstacles and avoid those areas.
For best results, keep people and pets away from the robot while it is
cleaning. If that is not possible, send the robot on another run to clean
areas previously missed.
If a person or pet blocks an area during the explore run, that area will not
be mapped. If this occurs, conduct another explore run to map your home
without interruption.
What is Object Detection and how does it work?
Your robot will avoid objects taller than 2.8 inches. Any object lower than
the AI laser vision system (2.8 inches) will not be recognized by your robot.
Clear all small objects from your robot’s path or add no-go zones in the app
before beginning a cleaning cycle.
You can also purchase BotBoundary® strips to physically block off obstacles.
My robot didn’t return to the dock. How do I find it?
If your robot is stuck, it will make a beeping noise for 60 seconds so you can find it. You can also select the Find My Robot option from the home screen in the SharkClean® app to locate your robot.
NOTE: if your robot’s battery has run out, the Find My Robot option may not work, and you will have to manually search for your robot.
What should I do if my robot keeps getting stuck?
During the first few cleanings, you may need to make some small adjustments to
optimize your robot’s performance:
• Always prep your home before cleaning. Clear away cords and other
obstructions that are less than 2.8 inches in height. If an obstruction can’t
be moved, block off the area by creating no-go zones in the app. You can also
purchase BotBoundary® strips to physically block off areas.
• Your robot may find its way under furniture with low clearance, but not be able to free itself. You can create no-go zones in the app to block off furniture or other areas where your robot gets stuck.
• Your robot can easily climb over obstacles up to 3/4″ high. Obstructions higher than this may present a challenge. To keep your robot from getting blocked by obstructions, use no-go zones to block them off.
• Your robot will return directly to the dock once it has finished cleaning. If the dock is blocked by obstructions, your robot may have difficulty returning to it. Make sure the dock is centrally located, away from carpets, with 3 feet of clearance on both sides, and 5ft in front.
Why won’t my robot travel to my area rug?
1. Make sure the fluid reservoir is NOT installed in your robot. If the
reservoir is attached, your robot is in VACMOP™ mode and may avoid carpets if
you have defined them in your app.
2. Check the map in the app to see if the rug has a no-go zone around it.
What is the expected runtime of the Shark® AI Robot?
Your robot can clean your home for up to 90 minutes at a time. For continuous cleaning, please enable Recharge & Resume so that your robot can cover larger spaces.
To enable Recharge & Resume in the SharkClean app, go to settings for your robot. Switch the toggle to the right to enable Recharge & Resume.
Why does my robot stop when it runs over my floor vents?
Your robot may mistake floor vents for ledges and may stop to avoid falling. To prevent your robot from getting stuck, set up a no-go zone around the vent area in the app’s interactive map.
How do I adjust the suction power of my robot?
To increase or decrease suction, adjust your robot’s power level in the app.
For more suction, turn the power level higher.
Turn the power lower for less suction. When operating at high power for an
extended time, your robot may need to charge more frequently.
For quieter operation, use the Eco Power setting.
Why does my robot power on when it gets knocked off the dock?
If your robot gets knocked off the dock, it will power on and attempt to return to the dock to continue charging.
Can my robot work if I don’t connect to the app?
If you don’t connect to the app, you will not be able to use important
features such as Interactive Home, No-Go Zones, Carpet Detection, Room Select,
and Scheduling.
If you are not connected to the app but still want to block off objects or
areas from your robot, you can also purchase BotBoundary® strips and use them
to physically block off those areas.
Mopping Questions
Can my robot run in VACMOP™ mode right out of the box?
For best results, map your home before using VACMOP mode.
To map effectively, your robot must conduct an Explore Run, followed by a
vacuum-only Carpet Detection Run to identify rugs and carpets to avoid while
mopping.
To set up Carpet Detection, make sure to follow these steps in the
app:
1. Your robot must complete an Explore Run without the fluid reservoir
attached.
2. Your robot must complete a Carpet Detection Run without the fluid
reservoir attached.
3. Confirm or edit the carpets detected on the interactive map in the app.
If you can’t wait, fill the reservoir with fluid, attach the pad, and insert
the reservoir into your robot to begin mopping. Please note if you do not
connect to the app, your robot will NOT avoid carpets in wet mode if
Carpet Detection is not activated.
Will my robot automatically avoid carpets and rugs when it is in VACMOP mode?
If Carpet Detection is set up in the app, it will prevent your robot from
mopping over your carpets and rugs.
Why does my robot give a Dust Bin Error in VACMOP™ mode?
For wet cleaning, the dust bin must remain inserted into the robot before the fluid reservoir is attached.
How many square feet will my robot clean with one filled reservoir?
With a full reservoir, your robot should be able to clean up to 350 square feet of floor space before needing a refill.
Does my VACMOP™ robot come with disposable pads?
Your robot comes with reusable mopping pads. Replacement mopping pads can be purchased on SharkClean.com
Will the mopping pad get wet enough to mop effectively?
For the first minute of a mopping run, your robot will prime the pad with the
perfect amount of water, so there is no need to pre-soak the pad.
If you replace the pad within 30 minutes of the initial priming, your robot
will not prime the new pad. In order to bypass this, turn the power switch on
the side of the robot to the OFF (O) position. Wait 60 seconds, then turn it
back on, and your robot will enter Priming Mode again.
How will I know when to refill the fluid reservoir?
When the reservoir needs to be refilled, your robot will stop its cleaning run and the water droplet icon on the robot will illuminate in red.
In the app, an error message will appear when the reservoir is empty and needs to be refilled. You can send your robot back to the dock to refill the reservoir, or you can refill it in the same place where your robot stopped, and then continue the cleaning run.
Why does my robot not go to the edge of the carpet in VACMOP™ mode?
If your robot is not cleaning right up to the edge of the carpet in VACMOP mode, try resizing the carpet image on the interactive map in the app.
What happens when I change the flow level of my VACMOP™ robot?
In VACMOP mode, you can control the amount of liquid dispensed from the
reservoir by adjusting the flow level in the app.
To dispense more liquid, turn the flow level up. To use less liquid, turn the
flow level down. Using the high flow level means the reservoir will need to be
refilled more often.
Why is my robot having trouble docking in VACMOP™ mode?
If carpet detection is set up in the app, check to see if a carpet is too close to the dock’s location. If this is the case, your robot will not be able to freely dock. Consider moving your dock to a new location that is free from carpets or move your carpet to give your robot the proper clearance to dock.
