SETUP & PREPARATION
ASSEMBLY
WARNING! ENSURE THE TOOL IS TURNED OFF AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER
SUPPLY BEFORE PERFORMING ANY OF THE FOLLOWING OPERATIONS.
Installing The Rubber Feet
- Press the rubber feet into the slots on the base of the unit.
Installing The Depth Adjustment Handle
- Align the depth adjustment handle with the protruding shaft on the machine.
- Tighten the screw and nut to lock the handle into place.
OPERATION
CONTROLS
WARNING! NEVER PLACE HANDS NEAR THE CUTTER HEAD UNLESS THE MACHINE IS
SWITCHED OFF AND DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER SUPPLY.
Adjusting The Planing Depth
The planing depth can be raised or lowered 1.5mm with every full rotation of
the handle. Always test the setting on a scrap workpiece first.
- Turn the depth adjustment handle and use the planing thickness guide to determine the required height.
Switching The Tool On/Off
- Press the “i” button to start the machine.
- Press the “0” button to stop the machine.
Overcurrent Protection
If the planing material gets stuck, the tool is overloaded or there is a
short, the overcurrent protection will automatically shut off the machine to
prevent damage.
Follow the steps below to reset the machine after an overload.
- Press the “0” button to ensure the machine does not start up again unexpectedly, then disconnect the power supply to the machine.
- Push the overload reset button and allow the machine to cool down.
- Remove any jammed material or loose debris that may have caused the overload.
WARNING! DO NOT CONTINUE USING THE TOOL IF THE OVERCURRENT PROTECTION
ACTIVATES AGAIN IMMEDIATELY ON RESTART.
PLANING
WARNING! NEVER USE THE THICKNESSER WITH MATERIALS OTHER THAN TIMBER.
WARNING! WEAR EYE, EAR & BREATHING PROTECTION TO AVOID PERSONAL INJURY.
- Turn the depth adjustment handle to raise the blade and allow sufficient space for the workpiece.
- Place the workpiece below the blade and lower the blade to the surface of the workpiece.
- Without adjusting the height, remove the workpiece. Then lower the blade to the desired planing depth.
- Start the machine and gently feed the workpiece into the machine using the provided push stick.
WARNING! ALWAYS USE THE PUSH STICK PROVIDED INSTEAD OF YOUR HANDS TO FEED
THE WORKPIECE.
WARNING! DO NOT FORCE THE WORKPIECE INTO THE THICKNESSER. THE MACHINE
AUTOMATICALLY PULLS THE WORKPIECE.
Planing Tips
- The length of the workpiece should not be less than 153mm long.
- The thickness of workpiece should not be less than 6mm + desired planing depth.
- Do not remove more than 3mm of material at a time.
- When working with hardwood, do not remove more than 2.5mm at a time to avoid overloading the machine.
- Removing material gradually over several passes will result in a smoother surface finish.
- The surface finish can be affected by the hardness, moisture and fibre content of the timber. The blade sharpness, machining direction and planing depth can also affect the surface finish.
- Feed material into the machine along the grain where possible for best results.
- Always test any adjustments on scrap pieces of timber before attempting on your workpiece.
- If not working in well ventilated areas, connect a dust extraction unit, such as a vacuum cleaner, to the dust extraction port to create a cleaner work environment. Use the dust extraction adapter if required.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING! BEFORE CLEANING THE APPLIANCE OR CARRYING OUT ANY MAINTENANCE
PROCEDURE, MAKE SURE THAT IT IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER SUPPLY TO PREVENT
ACCIDENTAL STARTING.
Adjusting The Table Extensions
The table extensions have been factory adjusted for use straight out of the
box. However these can become uneven over time, in which case follow the steps
below to readjust them.
- Raise the blade height so that it is out of the way.
- Place a level on the main worktable and inspect the extension table for gaps.
- If the table extensions are not level, there will be gaps between the surface and the level. Loosen the adjustment nut and use the screw to adjust the table height.
- Retighten the nut when the proper height is achieved.
Parallelism
Adjust the machine parallelism if workpieces are no longer coming out square.
Note: Poor parallelism is usually caused by misaligned blades. Always
check that the blade holder and work table are parallel before attempting to
adjust the parallelism setting.
- Place the machine on its side and loosen the cross rod bolts.
- Move the cross rod to disengage the conical gear from the blade holder gear.
- Rotate the blade holder gear to adjust the height of the blade holder. Each gear tooth shifting anti-clockwise raises the blade holder by 0.1mm.
- Once adjusted, move the cross rod gear back into place and re-tighten the bolts.
WARNING! WEAR GLOVES AND HANDLE THE BLADES WITH CAUTION TO AVOID PERSONAL
INJURY OR COLLATERAL DAMAGE.
Blade Replacement
- Loosen the screw and remove the depth adjustment handle.
- Undo the 4 hex bolts on the top of the unit with an M5 hex key and remove the casing.
- Undo the 4 hex bolts with an M4 hex key and remove the dust hood.
- Use the 10mm spanner to turn the hex bolts clockwise and loosen the blade.
- Remove the knife blade and the blade locking plate.
- Replace the worn blade with a new blade of the same dimensions. Place the new knife blade and blade locking place back into the slot. Note: Ensure the blade edge is facing the correct direction.
- Hold the assembly in place to loosely tighten the blade by turning the 9 hex bolts anti-clockwise.
- Place the blade guide in the proper orientation on the blade assembly and use it to push the blade to the proper position, then fully tighten the blade. Note: Ensure that the 2 support blocks on the left and right side of the blade guide are pressed against the knife blade.
- Repeat steps 4 to 8 for the other blade. WARNING! CHECK THAT ALL SCREWS ARE TIGHTENED. TURN THE BLADE HOLDER BY HAND TO CHECK THAT IT ROTATES EASILY AND SMOOTHLY.
- Reassemble the dust hood and casing onto the machine.
Note: Test the settings on a scrap piece of material to ensure the blades are properly installed and operating as they should.
Cleaning
- We recommend that you clean the appliance immediately after you use it.
- Keep the safety devices free of dirt and dust as much as possible. Wipe the equipment with a clean cloth.
- Clean the appliance regularly with a damp cloth and some soft soap. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents; these may be aggressive to the plastic parts in the appliance. Ensure that no water can get into the interior of the appliance.
Lubrication
- Regularly remove shavings from the depth setting chains, reduction drive and lifting screws for the blade holder.
- Remove chips with a cloth and brush, then lightly grease with a clean brush dipped in oil.
WARNING! NEVER POUR OIL DIRECTLY ON THE COMPONENTS. TOO MUCH OIL WILL
CAUSE DUST TO STICK AND IMPAIR LUBRICATIONS, WHICH IN TURN REDUCES THE SERVICE
LIFE OF THE MACHINE.
WARNING! THE BLADE HOLDER BEARINGS ARE SEALED AND MUST NOT BE LUBRICATED.
Carbon Brushes
When the carbon brush wears out, the tool will spark and/or stop. Discontinue
use as soon as this happens. It should be replaced prior to recommencing use
of the tool. Carbon brushes are a wearing component of the tool, and are not
covered under warranty. Continuing to use the tool when the carbon brush needs
to be replaced may cause permanent damage to the tool. Carbon brushes will
wear out after many uses but when the carbon brush needs to be replaced, take
the tool to an electrician or a power tool repairer for a quick and low cost
replacement.
Storage
Pull the mains plug out of the socket, switch off the tool and make sure that
it is secured in such a way that it cannot be started up again by any
unauthorised person.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY
WARNING! When using mains-powered tools, basic safety precautions,
including the following, should always be followed to reduce risk of fire,
electric shock, personal injury and material damage. Read the whole manual
carefully and make sure you know how to switch the tool off in an emergency,
before operating the tool.
Save these instructions and other documents supplied with this tool for future
reference.
This tool has been designed for 230V and 240V only. Always check that the
power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.
Note: The supply of 230V and 240V on Ozito tools are interchangeable for
Australia and New Zealand.
This tool is double insulated; therefore no earth wire is required.
Note: Double insulation does not take the place of normal safety
precautions when operating this tool.
The insulation system is for added protection against injury resulting from a
possible electrical insulation failure within the tool.
Using an Extension Lead
Always use an approved extension lead suitable for the power input of this
tool. Before use, inspect the extension lead for signs of damage, wear and
ageing. Replace the extension lead if damaged or defective.
When using an extension lead on a reel, always unwind the lead completely. Use
of an extension lead not suitable for the power input of the tool or which is
damaged or defective may result in a risk of fire and electric shock.
The power supply for this product should be protected by a residual current
device (rated at 30mA or less). A residual current device reduces the risk of
electric shock.
**** GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS
WARNING! Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and
specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all
instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious
injury.
Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded)
power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
-
Work area safety
a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. -
Electrical safety
a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators.
There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. -
Personal safety
a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to arotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
h) Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second. -
Power tool use and care
a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
h) Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations. -
Service
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
