INTRODUCTION

Thank you for purchasing the My Pal Scout Smarty PawsTM /My Pal Violet Smarty Paws! Cute, cuddly and customisable, this interactive plush lets you add your child’s name  and favourite things, activities and phrases. The touch-sensitive smarty paws encourage your child to interact with Scout/Violet and allow you and your child to enjoy playtime together.

WARNING
All packing materials, including tape, plastic sheets, packaging locks, removable tags, cable ties, cords and packaging screws are not part of this toy, and should be discarded for  your child’s safety.

GETTING STARTED PERSONALISATION

Step 1
Using a smartphone, tablet or computer with a 3.5mm headphone jack, go to leapfrog.com/SmartyPaws. Follow the instructions to select your child’s name and favourite  things. For a list of supported browsers, see System Requirements on the opposite side of this guide.

Step 2
Open the hook-and-loop fastener on the back of Scout/Violet to access the battery box. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw and slide open the battery box door to reveal  the Cable. Slide the On/Off/Volume Control Switch to the On position.
When prompted by the website, connect the Cable in Scout’s/Violet’s battery box to the 3.5mm headphone jack or adapter on your smartphone, tablet or computer. Do not plug the Cable into peripheral or external accessories such as speakers, docks, etc. Follow the instructions on the website to begin the download.

Step 3
When personalisation is complete, disconnect the Cable from your device and tuck the Cable back into the battery box. Close the battery box door and use a screwdriver to  tighten the screw to secure. Close the hook-and-loop fastener over the battery box.

BATTERY INSTALLATION

  1.  Make sure the unit is turned Off.
  2. Find the battery cover located on the back of the unit, use a screwdriver to loosen the screw, and then open the battery cover.
  3. Remove old batteries by pulling up on one end of each battery.
  4. Install 2 new AA (LR6/AM-3) batteries following the diagram inside the battery box. (For best performance, alkaline batteries or fully charged NiMH rechargeable  batteries are recommended.)
  5. Replace the battery cover and tighten the screw to secure.

WARNING
Adult assembly needed. Close the battery door and tighten the screw to secure before giving your child the toy.

IMPORTANT: BATTERY INFORMATION

  • Insert batteries with the correct polarity (+ and -).
  • Do not mix old and new batteries.
  • Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable batteries.
  • Only batteries of the same or equivalent type as recommended are to be used.
  • Do not short-circuit the supply terminals.
  • Remove batteries during long periods of non-use.
  • Remove exhausted batteries from the toy.
  • Dispose of batteries safely. Do not dispose of batteries in fire.

RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES

  • Remove rechargeable batteries (if removable) from the toy before charging.
  • Rechargeable batteries are only to be charged under adult supervision.
  • Do not charge non-rechargeable batteries.

ACTIVATE NORMAL PLAY MODE

This product is set to Try-Me mode in the package. To activate normal play mode, switch the On/Off/Volume Control Switch to ( ) and then back to to activate normal play mode.

PRODUCT FEATURES

  1. On/Off Button
    Press the On/Off Button to wake up Scout/Violet and begin to play.

  2. Interactive Smarty Paws
    Touch the Interactive Smarty Paws to play a musical activity that features three children’s tunes.

  3. Lullaby Button
    Press the Lullaby Button once to hear five minutes of music. Press it twice to hear 10 minutes of music. Press it three times to hear 15 minutes of music.

  4. Activity Button
    Press the Activity Button to hear Scout/Violet talk about your child’s favourite things, feeling words and explore mindfulness activities.

  5. Songs Button
    Press the Songs Button to play personalised songs and melodies.

ACTIVITY

  1. Interactive Smarty Paws
    Scout’s/Violet’s Interactive Smarty Paws can be played by your child alone or in multiplayer mode.
    To play in multiplayer mode, each person (such as you and your child) can touch one of Scout’s/ Violet’s Interactive Smarty Paws. After the initial dialogue prompt plays,  you can now tap your child’s skin (nose, face, arm, etc.) with your other hand to create an interactive play circle. Continue to tap your child’s skin to keep playing the musical activity.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

  1. Keep the unit clean by wiping it with a slightly damp cloth.
  2. Keep the unit out of direct sunlight and away from any direct heat sources.
  3. Remove the batteries if the unit will not be in use for an extended period of time.
  4. Do not drop the unit on hard surfaces and do not expose the unit to moisture or water.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If for some reason the unit stops working or malfunctions, please follow these steps:

  1. Turn the unit Off by using the On/Off/Volume Control Switch on the battery box.
  2. Interrupt the power supply by removing the batteries.
  3. Let the unit stand for a few minutes, then replace the batteries.
  4. Turn the unit On by using the On/Off/Volume Control Switch on the battery box. The unit should now be ready to use again.
  5. If the unit still does not work, install a brand new set of batteries.

Environmental Phenomena
The unit may malfunction if subjected to radio-frequency interference. It should revert to normal operation when the interference stops. If not, it may become necessary to  turn the power Off and back On, or remove and reinstall the batteries. In the unlikely event of an electrostatic discharge, the unit may malfunction and lose memory, requiring  the user to reset the device by removing and reinstalling the batteries.
