Firmware File Naming Convention

a. The firmware file must be named according to the following format:
i. SL-YYYYMMDD-TXX

  • SL – Solar Speaker.
  • YYYY – Year.
  • MM – Month.
  • DD – Day.
  • TXX – Firmware Revision.

Note: The firmware file is named “update.ufw” instead of being named according to the format above (for e.g., SL-20220812-T04)

Loud Speaker (9)

a. Consists of 2 x 3W speakers.
b. Includes an amplifier for BT and AUX-In.
c. Provided with an Anti-Pop circuit.
d. Supports Stereo/Mono according to the audio source.
e. Number of Sound Levels – TBD after receiving 3D samples.
f. Default Volume Level –

Bluetooth (Audio)

a. Provides an Automatic Pairing (no need to press on a button or share PIN for pairing).
b. Supports Music functions only – No phone support.
c. Audible prompt on Searching, Successful Pairing, Connecting and Pairing Reset – according to Appendix A.
d. Bluetooth Device Name: “Solar Speaker”.

AUX-In Jack Cable (Audio)

a. 3.5mm Stereo connector.
b. Supports Stereo/Mono according to the audio source.

Solar Panel (Charging)

a. Output ⎓ 6V 0-300mA.
b. Provides a power bank capacity of 4400mAh.

LED Indicators #1 – #5 (15 -19)

a. LED #1 – Power on and Mode indication, dual color (Red/Blue).
b. LED #2-#5 – Battery level indication according to number of LEDs On, Single color.

Power Button (2)

a. Click:
ii. If Charge-Out mode is inactive:

  • Initiate Charge-Out mode.
  • Perform an LED Charge-Out battery level indication for at least 3 seconds, according to paragraph 13:
  • If an external device is connected and Charging, the indication will display as in 13.b.
  • If no external device is connected (or no actual charge out is performing) indicate for 3 seconds according to 13.b.

Note: Need to ask Oli if it the LED indication can be lowered to 3-5 seconds.

b. 2-seconds press:2
i. If the Solar Speaker is on, turn the Solar Speaker off.

  • The Solar Speaker will save the current mode of operation it’s in (AUX/BT).
  • Play the “_Power_off” chime – see Appendix B.
  • LED #1 turns off – see Appendix A.

ii. If the Solar Speaker is off, turn the Solar Speaker on.

  • The Solar Speaker will turn on in the last (saved) mode of operation (AUX/BT).
  • Play the “_Power_on” chime – see Appendix B.
  • In BT mode, the Solar Speaker will automatically try to connect to the last paired device and LED #1 will blink – see Appendix A.
  • If successfully connected, LED #1 turns on (solid) – see Appendix A.
  • if not connected, the Solar Speaker will play the “_BT_waiting” chime exactly every 60 seconds until it is paired with a nearby device, or the Solar Speaker is shut off.

Charge-In Mode
a. Charge-In mode will automatically start when USB type-C is connected.
b. If Charge-In is active (charge is received and a device is connected via USB Type-C), Solar Speaker will perform a
Charge-In battery level indication as follows:

i. Display the following battery levels – see Appendix A:
ii. If battery level is 0% – 25%, LED #2 blinks and LED #3 -#5 remain off.
iii. If Battery level is 25% – 50%, LED #2 remains on (solid), LED#3 blinks and LED #4 – #5 remain off.
iv. If Battery level is 50% – 75%, LED #2 – #3 remain on (solid), LED #4 blinks and LED #5 remains off.
v. If Battery level is 75% – 100%, LED #2 – #4 remain on (solid) and LED #5 blinks.
vi. If battery is full (100%) LEDs #2 – #5 remain on (solid).
vii. Blink interval is 1000ms on and 1000ms off.
viii. If Charge-In is inactive (no charge is received and/or no device is connected via USB Type-C):

  • LEDs #2 – #5 will remain off – see Appendix A.

c. If both Charge-Out and Charge-In are active, Solar Speaker will perform a Charge-In battery level indication according to section 12b.
i. As soon as Charge-in is disconnected or Solar Speaker battery is full, Solar Speaker will default to Charge-Out indication according to section 13b. OK
d. If only Charge-in is active and a device is connected to the USB Type-A port, once the device is disconnected/fully charged – Solar Speaker will perform a Charge-Out  battery level indication according to section 13.b for exactly 3 additional seconds.

Charge-Out Mode (Power Bank):

a. Charge-Out mode will automatically start when USB type-A is connected. OK
b. If only Charge-Out is active (a device is connected via USB Type-A and charge is emitted from the Solar Speaker), Solar Speaker will perform a Charge-Out battery level indication as follows:
Play the “_Charge_Out” chime once at connection/initialization – see Appendix B.
i. If Battery level is 75% – 100%, LED #2 – #5 remain on (solid).
ii. If Battery level is 50% – 75%, LED #2 – #4 remain on (solid), and LED #5 remains off
iii. If Battery level is 25% – 50%, LED #2 -#3 remains on (solid) and LED #4 –

5 remain off and LED #5 remains off.

iv. If battery level is 3% – 25%, LED #2 remains on and LED #3 – #5 remain off.
v. If battery level is below 3%, disable power output.
vi. If no charge is output and/or no device is connected via USB Type-A:

  • LEDs #2 – #5 will remain off – see Appendix A.

Note: Need to ask Oli if it the LED indication can be lowered to 3-5 seconds.
c. If both Charge-Out and Charge-In are active, Solar Speaker will perform a Charge-In battery level indication according to paragraph 12.b.

Volume Up Button (3)

a. Click:
i. Increase volume level by one increment.
b. Press and Hold:
i. Continuously increase volume level by a single increment every 200ms until the highest volume level is reached or until button is released (whichever occurs first).

  • When highest volume level is reached play the “_Vol_highest“ chime – see Appendix B.
  • Volume level must not loop!

c. Volume Level:
i. The current volume level must be saved and persist separately for BT Mode and for AUX Mode.

  • When turning Off the Solar Speaker the current volume mode will be saved and will persist when the Solar Speaker is turned back On.

Volume Down Button (4)

a. Click:
i. Decrease volume level by one increment.
b. Press and Hold:
i. Continuously decrease volume level by a single increment every 200ms until the minimum level is reached or until button is released (whichever occurs first).

  • When lowest volume level is reached play the “_Vol_lowest“ chime – see Appendix B.
  • Volume level must not loop!

c. Volume Level:
ii. The current volume level must be saved and persist separately for BT Mode and for AUX Mode.

  • When turning Off the Solar Speaker the current volume mode will be saved and will persist when the Solar Speaker is turned back On.

USB Type-C (Power input) (12) Type C

a. Automatic activation at USB connection and battery level indication as mentioned under section 12. under Charge-In.

USB Type-A (Power Bank – Output) (11) micro USB

a. Automatic activation at USB connection and battery level indication as mentioned under section 13. under Charge-Out.

Reset Switch (14)

a. Disconnect the battery from the circuit (hardware reset).

Mode Button (1) + Volume Down (4)

b. Press and hold both buttons for a total of 5 seconds to:
i. Reset BT pairing information and disconnect any connected device (depends on Section 19 feature request).
ii. Set last Mode to BT.
iii. Set Volume level to Default – Level TBD after receiving 3D samples.
iv. Play the “_Full_Reset” chime (see Appendix B) and shut down the player.

Auto Shut Off:

a. The Solar Speaker will automatically shut down in the following conditions, with the same procedure as in
Manual Power Off 11.b.i:
i. BT mode:BT

  • Solar Speaker is in BT “waiting for pairing/connection” mode, without pairing or any buttons pressed for 20 minutes.
  • Solar Speaker is connected, without audio playing or any buttons pressed for 20 minutes.

22. Chapter Forward Button (6) + Chapter Rewind Button (5)
a. Click or longer press:
i. Play The “_Firmware_Version” chime.

  • Firmware_Version” chime announcement structure:
    Solar Speaker SL TXX
    SL – Solar Speaker.
    TXX – Firmware Revision

  • The chime must play in the same volume level of the current mode (AUX/BT).
    ii. While the chime is being played, Volume Up (3) and Volume Down (4) buttons must function as written under sections 14 + 15.
    b. An additional click or longer press must instantly interrupt the playback of the chime.

Battery
a. Low Power:
i. While the battery’s voltage is ≤3.40V AND On (AUX/BT mode) AND not charging, play the “_Low_Power”
chime – see Appendix B.

  • The chime should play every 5 minutes.

Mode Button (1)
a. Click:
i. Switch to BT mode.

  • Turn on BT radio.
  • Enter “waiting for pairing/connection” mode.
  • The default mode must be BT.
  • LED #1 (15) turns blue – see Appendix A.
  • Play the “_BT_mode” chime – see Appendix B.

Power Button (2)
a. Same as in Power Button (2) under “General Functions”.
Volume Up Button (3)
a. Same as in Volume Up (3) under “General Functions”.
Volume Down Button (4)
a. Same as in Volume Down (4) under “General Functions”.

AUX-In jack cable (10) AUX
a. AUX-In cable will provide Stereo Audio input.
Changing to Bluetooth mode will be done manually, by Clicking on the Mode button (1) – see section 24.a. OK

USB Type-C (Power input) (12) Type
a. Same as in USB Type-C (Power input) (12) under “General Functions”.

USB Type-A (Power Bank – Output) (11) Micro USB
a. Same as in USB Type-A (Power Bank – Output) (11) under “General Functions”.
Reset Switch (20)
a. Same as in Reset Switch (20) under “General Functions”.

Mode Button (1) + Volume Up (3)
a. Same as in Mode Button (1) + Volume Up (3) under “General Functions”.

Mode Button (1) + Volume Down (4)
a. Same as in Mode Button (1) + Volume Down (4) under “General Functions”.

Chapter Rewind Button (5)
a. Not active in AUX mode.

Chapter Forward Button (6)
a. Not active in AUX mode.

Play/Pause Button (7)
a. Not active in AUX mode.

Waiting for pairing/connection:
a. As soon as the Solar Speaker enters BT mode (from AUX mode or from Power On) the Solar Speaker will enter “waiting for pairing/connection” mode status.
i. If no pairing/connection is made within 20 minutes or the mode is not changed to AUX, Solar Speaker will perform an Auto Shut Off (same as a manual power off in  section 21).
ii. Solar Speaker will play the “_BT_waiting” chime exactly every 60 seconds until it is paired with a nearby device, or the Solar Speaker is shut off.
iii. LED#1 state according to Appendix A: “BT – waiting”.
b. While in “waiting for pairing/connection” mode status, the Solar Speaker will allow any BT device to pair / (connect if already paired).
