  • 1 MEDISANA blood pressure measuring device HGH
  • 2 batteries (type AAA, LR03) 1.5V
  • 1 storage box
  • 1 Instruction manual

Please contact your dealer if you notice any transport damage on unpacking the unit.

Starting up

Insert / replace batteries

You must insert the batteries provided before you can use your unit. The lid of the battery compartment is located on the left hand side of the unit. Open it, remove it and insert the 2 AAA LR03 type 1.5 V batteries supplied. Ensure correct polarity when inserting the batteries (as marked inside the battery compartment). Close the battery compartment. Replace the batteries if the change battery symbol  appears on the display  or if nothing appears on the display after the unit has been switched on.

Setting the date and time

  1. With the unit switched off, simultaneously press the START button  and the M button  to set the date and time. First of all the entry point for the month flashes (1, 2, 3… 12).
  2. Press the M button repeatedly until the desired number for the month appears.
  3. Press the START button  again to accept the setting. Now the entry point for the date flashes.
  4. Proceed in exactly the same manner as described in point 2 when entering the date, hours and minutes.
  5. In each case, press the M button  to select and the START button  to accept the entry.
  6. The date and time are displayed continuously. If the batteries are changed the information is lost and the date and time must be set again.

Fitting the cuff

  • Place the cuff on the left wrist with the palm of the hand facing upwards. (fig.1).
  • The distance between the cuff and the palm of the hand must be approx. 1 cm. (fig.2).
  • Securely fasten the monitor around your wrist using the Velcro fastener. (fig.3).

The correct position

  • Carry out the measurement whilst seated.
  • Relax your arm and place it comfortably, on a table for instance.
  • Raise the wrist so that the cuff of the monitor is at heart level (fig.4, position a = too high, b = correct, c = too low).
  • Keep still during the measurement: do not move and do not talk as this may alter the measurements.

Taking a blood pressure measurement

  1. Switch the unit on by pressing the START button 5.
  2. If the START button 5 is pressed, a long beep is heard and all display characters are shown (display test). This test can be used to check that the display is indicating properly and in full. The display shows the values from the previous measurement. If no measurement has been taken, zeroes will appear next to the date and time.
  3. The unit is ready for measurement, the number 0 is displayed. It automatically inflates the cuff slowly in order to measure your blood pressure. The pressure on the display changes continuously during the time it continues to inflate.
  4. The unit inflates the cuff until sufficient pressure has built up for a measurement. Then the unit slowly releases air from the cuff and carries out the measurement.
  5. When the measurement is finished, the cuff is deflated completely. The systolic and the diastolic blood pressure, as well as the pulse rate, appear in the display 3 in succession. The blood pressure indicator 2 flashes next to the relevant coloured bar depending on the WHO blood pressure classification. If the unit has de-tected an irregular heartbeat, the arrhythmia display 12 also flashes.
  6. The measured values are stored automatically. Up to 60 measured values with date and time can be stored in the memory.

WARNING

Do not take any therapeutic measures on the basis of a self measurement. Never alter the dose of a medicine prescribed by a doctor.

The unit switches off automatically after a minute if no buttons are pressed. The unit may also be switched off using the START button 5.

Displays of stored values
You can store up to 60 measurements (blood pressure and pulse with date and time) in the memory of your blood pressure monitor. The measured values are stored automatically Press the M button 4 to call up the measured values stored. The stored data appears on the display. First the number of occupied memory locations is displayed. Then the values from the previously stored measurement are displayed, together with the flashing blood pressure indicator. Repeatedly pressing the M button 4 displays the respective values measured previously. If you have reached the final entry and do not press a button, the unit automatically switches itself off after approximately 10 seconds in memory recall mode. Memory recall mode can be exited at any time by pressing the START button 5 , which will also switch the unit off. The oldest value is deleted if 60 measured values have been stored in the memory and a new value is saved.

Deleting the memory
Press and hold the M button 4 for approximately 3 seconds and all measured data stored will be deleted automatically after three beeps.

Blood pressure classification according to the WHO

These values have been specified by the World Health Organisation (WHO) without making any allowance for age.

Low blood pressure

  • systolic <100 diastolisch <60

Normal blood pressure

  • (green display area 2 ) systolic 100 – 139 diastolic 60 – 89

F orms of high blood pressure / hypertension

  • Mild hypertension (yellow display area 2) systolic 140 – 159 diastolic 90 – 99

Moderate hypertension (orange display area 2 )

  • systolic 160 – 179 diastolic 100 – 109

Severe hypertension (red display area 2 )

  • systolic >180 diastolic >110

WARNING

Blood pressure that is too low represents just as great a health risk as blood pressure that is too high! Fits of dizziness may lead to dangerous situations arising (e.g. on stairs or in traffic)

Error messages and error remedying

  • : Replace both batteries.
  • Er 0 (Pressure system instable at start of the measurement)
  • Er 1 (Error in measuring the systolic pressure)
  • Er 2 (Error in measuring the diastolic pressure)
  • Do not move.
  • Er 3 (Pressure system is blocked or sleeve is too tight during inflation)
