Sunlight
The Bird’s Nest fern thrives in medium indirect light, but also tolerates low
light. This bushy plant’s leaves can burn in direct sun, so be mindful of
placement in the home.
Water
We suggest watering the Bird’s Nest fern once a week allowing soil to drain
and dry slightly.
The fern should not be allowed to completely dry out.
Climate
Ferns prefer temperatures of 65 – 85°F.
Soil
A very light feeder, apply a balanced houseplant fertilizer at half strength
once every 1 – 3 months.
Bird’s Nest ferns love humidity and moisture, making them a perfect candidate
for terrariums.
Asplenium nidus, also known as a Bird’s Nest fern, is a beautiful fern
originating from the tropics of Asia and Africa. Though Bird’s Nest ferns
anchor themselves in soil they are epiphytic, meaning they derive moisture and
nutrients from the air. Bird’s Nest ferns grow in a full rosette shape with
new growth stemming from the center of the plant.
Bird’s Nest ferns produce dense foliage and are easy to care for. They grow
best in dappled light or medium indirect light. They can tolerate low light
but will grow more slowly. Bird’s nests should be watered regularly so that
the soil doesn’t dry out, however, take care to let the soil drain during
watering to prevent root rot. They do best in high humidity areas such as
kitchens and well-lit bathrooms or will be happy with a regular misting.
