Introduction

This 9.2-channel Onkyo SMART A/V ReceiverTM is in charge of the audio in your entire house. High-speed 802.11ac Wi-Fi® is improved with Sonos compatibility, Chromecast built-in1, AirPlay 2, and DTS Play-Fi®, while speaker outputs with DACs can power D/A audio in three different rooms. With nine high-current power channels at your disposal, you can crank up the volume to the THX® Certified SelectTM reference level and surround your family with 5.2.4 channels of Dolby Atmos® or DTS:X® sound, or experience IMAX® Enhanced2 content as the filmmakers intended. Dolby Atmos Height Virtualize creates a 3D sound-field employing horizontal speakers, while Dolby Surround® upmixes heritage sound for height-enabled systems. The improved powertrain of DAA results in a larger soundstage, while anti-noise improvements. Standing waves are removed by the 9-point calibration of AccuEQ Advance, allowing audio to be expressed naturally. The TX-NR797 helps you shape entertainment into your life with all of this and more.

Discover IMAX Enhanced

DTS:X sound technology, which is tuned for the IMAX signature experience, is used in IMAX Enhanced* A/V receivers to reproduce the full dynamic range of IMAX theatrical sound-mixes that are available with digitally remastered IMAX Enhanced content. The best quality audio reproduction and delivery of lMAX Enhanced content are provided by a pre-set IMAX Mode. There will be IMAX Enhanced releases of a variety of movies, including Hollywood blockbusters and documentaries, for 4K HDR streaming and Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Setting sound free with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X

The audio is localised or free to travel among your speakers and around the audience in sync with the action on screen thanks to Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, which map sounds in the movie to their respective positions in your room. With a 5.2.4 or 7.2.2-ch architecture, this 9.2-ch receiver broadens object-based sound-field coverage. With Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X upmixers for archival soundtracks, watch old movies on your height-enabled system.

Using Sonos

Simply by pairing it with a Sonos Connect, the TX-NR797 can become a part of your current Sonos Home Sound System or serve as the foundation of a new one. The AVR integrates with the Sonos environment, responding to commands from the Sonos app to wake up, change inputs, and play at the desired level.

Google Assistant built-in to Chromecast

You may easily stream any type of music to the receiver from your laptop, smartphone, or computer. On your iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet, Mac or Windows laptop, Chromebook, or other device with Chromecast support, you may use your favourite apps to control playback. You can cue, play, and control music playback with your voice if you have a smart speaker that has the Google Assistant.

Theater-reference sound is THX Certified Select.

In settings where the viewing position is roughly 10–12 feet from the screen, THX Certified Select ensures that the reference volume level of a commercial theatre will be achieved. Receivers must pass 2,000 bench tests in 75 categories spanning 14,000 data points in order to be certified for reference sound under the stringent THX sound-quality guidelines.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does utilizing the zones mean sacrificing sound from the height speakers in the main listening area?****

Yes, that is accurate. You will lose one pair of speakers that may be used in the MAIN zone while using the speaker terminals for ZONE 2. All possible speaker terminals for the MAIN zone can be used if you utilize the ZONE 2 LINE OUT, but the external amplifier will need its own volume control.

Can I connect my Android phone to a USB port and play music from the phone’s internal TF card?****

You may stream using Chromecast, Apple Play, Mirror, Dlna, and if your phone is MHL or HDMI alternatively capable, a USB micro or USB c to HDMI adaptor cable will work because the small phono Jack is just a straightforward analogue stereo connector.

Is it still accessible?****

Yes. We’ll send it out today.

Can this only be activated using Google Assistant?****

It can be turned on manually using the dials or buttons on the front, with its own remote control, a universal remote (which needs to be configured), or both.

Can Bluetooth headphones be connected?****

You won’t be able to use your Bluetooth headphones with our receiver unless they come with a special base unit that can be linked to it. Our receivers only have a Bluetooth receiving device; they do not contain a Bluetooth broadcasting unit.

Does Alexa work this receiver?****

While you can manage the receiver with your Alexa device via a cable connection, you can only stream audio from an Alexa device to it.

Please let me know if it streams smoothly through a Sonos connector to help with the poor Bluetooth connectivity.****

I avoided assuming any risks. This device is directly wired to my router. I employed a second cable that was joined to a switch.

Does it run on 220 volts? Euro plug****

Although they appear to offer a model for AC 220 – 240 V, 50/60 Hz (Others), I am now utilizing Power Supply AC 120 V, 60 Hz (North American).

Is 7.1.4 supported by this?****

5.1.4 can only be received on a 9-channel receiver without an additional 2-channel amplifier.

This Onkyo TX-NR797 receiver is utilised. There is no further warranty, but everything has been tested and functions as it should.

Is 4K@120hz supported by this?****

That refresh and resolution are not supported. Only 4k/60hz is supported, according to the documentation, and my Xbox Series X and LG C9 OLED have recently confirmed this. When connected directly to the Xbox, the LG will display 120 Hz, but not when passing through this receiver.
