Introduction
With no need to replace or rewire a light switch or light bulb, Switch Mate is the first smart light switch in the world that quickly clamps over your current light switches to bring voice-controlled smart lighting into your house. Switch Mate is voice-activated, has several timers for complete smart lighting control, turns on lights automatically when you get home, and only takes a minute to install. Download the complimentary app for free to operate your device via your phone, a wall switch, the Google Assistant, or Alexa when it becomes available. Smart lighting is now more accessible than ever.
INSTALLATION
- Install two AA batteries into back of Switchmate.
- Snap Switchmate onto your existing light switch with the light switch and the Switchmate in the “up/TOP “ position. It attaches instantly with the imbedded magnets, no tools or wiring required.
- Download the Switchmate App from the Google Play or Apple App. Store onto your phone.
- Launch the App and follow the few simple steps to connect and activate your Switchmate in seconds.
- Tap the “Start” button.
- Tap the “Walk me through the install” icon and simply follow the simple steps to activate your Switchmate.
- Test Switchmate both manually at the light switch and using the App.
- Due to variations in the effective range of Bluetooth technology, there may be a 2-4 seconds response time from the wall switch.
- note that a small percentage of rocker switches require the utilization of an adaptor to activate correctly. Simply attach the adaptor included as shown in this graphic below and snap Switchmate back onto the switch. If that is still not working properly, be sure that the screws that hold your light switch plate to the wall are fully tightened.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Q: Smartphone cannot find my Switchmate
A: Different phone may behave differently when connecting to Switchmate. When experiencing difficulties connecting to Switchmate, you may try the following steps.
- Close Switchmate app, and all other apps, restart Switchmate app.
- If still does not work, try turning off the Bluetooth on your phone and then turn it back on
- If still does not work, reset the Switchmate by removing the AA batteries from Switchmate and reinstalling the batteries.
Q: Welcome feature does not work
A: Make sure the Switchmate is in “OFF” position for Welcome feature to work properly. The Welcome feature will only turn the Switchmate “ON”. If the Switchmate is already in “ON” position, the Welcome feature will do nothing.
- TIMERS: Schedule when you want your lights to turn on or off, and have this on repeat.
- REVERSE: Press Reverse if Switchmate’s on/off does not match your lightswitch on/off position.
- CLOSE RANGE: Let your lights welcome you home when you come within range of Switchmate.
- BATTERY LIFE: View your Switchmate’s battery life and receive alerts when it’s time to change the batteries.
- MANUAL PRESS: Use the Switchmate as a manual lightswitch by pressing the center button.
- FLEXIBILITY: Bring the settings with you wherever you go.

FAQs
Is this HomeKit compatible?****
At this time, we are not HomeKit compatible, but thanks for letting us know you’d like to see this integration in the future!
Does the ‘timer’ only works when my phone is in vicinity (Bluetooth range) of the switch? I’ve come home when it was supposed to be on and it’s off.****
Back when I got it the app wasn’t working to connect for the item to work at all.
Does it work on Wi-Fi?****
Nope, not by itself. the switch only can be connected through Bluetooth. But if you connect it to the smart outlet made by the same company, you can control the switch by wi-fi via the smart outlet. in other words, the smart outlet works as a Bluetooth hub.
How does this work? Is it Bluetooth?****
Yes, it works with Bluetooth and can be finicky if you’re phone is not right next to it, but it does work as advertised. I have it come on once / day and battery life is about 3-4 months. Only downfall, once you change the battery, it loses the schedule set, so just need to re-establish.
Can I pair with Alexa or not? On your support site it says it does pair? but I cannot get it to work.****
This is designed to work with Bluetooth only, not WIFI. You can however purchase what they call a “power outlet”, which acts as a “bridge” between Bluetooth and WIFI. It is a 2-receptacle extender that allows each of the outlets to be operated remotely. It can be connected to your home WIFI, and then it “talks” via Bluetooth to the SwitchMate switches. With the “power outlet: all your Switch Mates can be controlled with Alexa or Google Home. That allows you to control the switches from anywhere you have internet.
Regarding the timer: if I am traveling to a different time zone, will it work on the time zone where the Switchmate is or on my phone’s time zone?****
You have to be close to the switchmate to use your phone. Once it is set it will come on and off according to your schedule.
Does this work with three-way switches?****
Yes, it does. We have a patio light controlled from the detached garage and from within the house. All it does is move the toggle switch up and down. You could have a light controlled by three switches, and it would work. It works flawlessly. Without fail our patio light goes on each evening and off at dawn per our schedule input. When it stops working it needs new batteries.
If I go on vacation can I still use your product to turn on lights from where ever I am?****
No. It’s not WIFI enabled. You needs to be within 10 feet or so. But this product is awful. I bought 2 and both stopped working within 2 weeks. Company could not be reached for resolution. Do not waste your money.
Would this work over a switch that is in a round housing? From what I gathered in reviews it is just magnetic.****
It probably will not work. I returned it because the magnet was not strong enough to keep the device in place. So, I suspect a round housing would have less surface for these weak magnets.
The product description says “upcoming compatibility with amazon Alexa” does that mean support of the wink hub or without the hub?****
The only way to make it work is by buying by the dual plug as well. But honestly, I think it’s totally worth it. I bought both together and it was a breeze. Note: each time you add a new rocker or toggle, you need to unlink and relink Alexa with switchmate. Which, again, is a small price to pay for this functionality without any wiring.
Is anyone else having problems connecting since they did a software upgrade?****
Not problems connecting but having problems with the timer not working correctly. After starting to set up a new timer I found a toggle to set the timer to repeat (that I am pretty sure wasn’t there before). I am hoping that will fix my issue with the timer not working automatically daily lately.
How does the voice activation work with this switch? This may be the perfect solution for the gas fireplace toggle switch.****
I’m not sure how it works now, I used to have it for this exact use (low- voltage fireplace switch) connected to Wink which let me use Alexa and it was amazing. But they axed Wink support and now it won’t update firmware to the current version so it’s effectively bricked.
Will this work with a simple low voltage push button switch for a garage door?****
My first instinct is that I doubt it since the mechanism is designed to move up & down vs push a button. Never tried it on a push button switch.
Is there a Bluetooth extender for Switchmate lights?****
The dual outlet switchmate sells works as both a Bluetooth extender and adds WIFI functionality to switch.
Is it ever going to work with Alexa? They have been promising that quite some time.****
It will work with Alexa if you also have their power outlet (which comes included in the Switchmate starter kit). The light switches alone cannot pair to Alexa, but they can be recognized and linked with the power outlet, which can pair to Alexa. No additional hub is required.
