Use and safety warning

  • Read these instructions carefully before switching on the appliance and keep them for future reference. Failure to follow and observe these instructions could lead to an accident. Clean all the parts of the product that will be in contact with food, as indicated in the cleaning section, before use.
  • This appliance is only for domestic use, not for industrial or professional use. It is not intended to be used by guests in hospitality environments such as bed and breakfasts, hotels, motels, and other types of work environments.
  • This appliance can be used by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
  • This appliance can be used by children aged 8 years and above if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved.
  • Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children unless they are older than 8 and supervised. 2.1.5. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children aged less than 8 years.
  • This appliance is not a toy. Children should be super-vised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. 2.1.7. Only use the appliance with the specific electric base / connector, supplied with the appliance.
  • Remove the electric connector before undertaking any cleaning task.
  • Never submerge the electric connector in water or any other liquid or place it under running water.
  • Dry the product immediately after any cleaning task making sure that the appliance inlet is perfectly dry. 2.1.11. Boiling liquids could overflow from the receptacle if it’s over filled.
  • The appliance must only be used with the stand provided.
  • If the connection to the mains has been damaged, it must be replaced, take the appliance to an authorised technical support service. Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the appliance by yourself in order to avoid a hazard.
  • Ensure that the voltage indicated on the rating label matches the mains voltage before plugging in the appliance.
  • Connect the appliance to a base with an earth socket with standing a minimum of 10 amperes.
  • The appliance’s plug must fit into the mains socket properly. Do not alter the plug. Do not use plug adaptors. 2.1.17. Do not force the power cord. Never use the power cord to lift up, carry or unplug the appliance.
  • Do not wrap the power cord around the appliance. 2.1.19. Do not clip or crease the power cord.
  • Do not allow the power cord to come into contact with the appliance’s hot surface.
  • Check the state of the power cord. Damaged or tangled cables increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Do not touch the plug with wet hands.
  • Do not use the appliance if the cable or plug is damaged.
  • If any of the appliance casings breaks, immediately disconnect the appliance from the mains to prevent the possibility of an electric shock.
  • Do not use the appliance if it has fallen on the floor, if there are visible signs of damage or if it has a leak. 2.1.26. The appliance must be used and placed on a flat, stable surface.
  • Supply cord should be regularly examined for signs of damage, and if the cord is damaged, the appliance must not be used.

Instructions for use

  • Before use:
  • Carry out 2 or 3 boiling processes with fresh water (without coffee). Once all water has passed through,
  • switch off the appliance and let it cool down for 5 minutes. Then repeat the process with fresh water.
  • Making coffee:
  • Fill the water tank with the required water quantity. Ensure that the water level is not lower than the minimum mark and not higher than the maximum mark. Use fresh, cold water only. The number of cups can be read on the water tank.
  • Fill the desired quantity of ground coffee into the filter.
  • Switch on the appliance. Wait until the brewing process is finished and the funnel has run empty.
  • For large cups: its takes +/- 5- 6g of ground coffee for each cup.

Making more coffee straight after the first batch:

  • If you have made one cup of coffee and wish to make more coffee straight away, switch off the coffee maker and allow at least 5 minutes for it to cool down. Then you can refill the water tank.

Cleaning

  • Always remove the main plug from the wall socket before cleaning the appliance.
  • Never immerse the appliance in water.
  • You should clean the appliance with a damp cloth. 3.4. The carafe, filter and the funnel can be washed in hot soapy water.

Descaling

  • Descale your coffee maker regularly.
  • Operate the appliance as described. However, instead of water, now use vinegar to fill the water tank and do not fill the funnel with ground coffee.
  • After descaling, run the boiling process for 2 or 3 more times with clean fresh water to rinse away the vinegar and remaining scale.

Operating instructions

Main functions:

  • The appliance has two working modes: delay heat (0-24 hours) and immediate heat.
  • Automatic shutdown protection: The appliance will turn of automatically after 40 minutes.
  • Alert to clean: after 200 uses, the appliance will buzz to remind you to clean the appliance.
  • To stop the buzzing, press and hold the “DELAY” button for at least 3 seconds.
  • The sound will stop and the counter will start from zero again.

Functions:

  • On/off: This button can change the appliance from on to off or to cancel the process completely.
  • DELAY: Used to pre-set the delay timer from 1-24 hours and also used to stop the “Cleaning alarm sound”.
  • DELAY (set): press both the “H” and “MIN” to set the timer.
  • “h”: Pressing this key will allow you to add 1 hour to the timer.
  • “min”: Pressing this key allows you to add minutes to timer.
  • Operation:
  • When switching on the machine it will show 00:00. Press “h” / “min” until you have reached the desired time. 5.3.2. Press the on/off button then set the time; it will start the process immediately.
  • Press the “DELAY” then “Set” buttons first then set the time, the appliance will start at a delayed time pre-set by you.
  • After setting you desired time, press the “set” then the screen will show the desired time.
  • Press the “on/off” button to stop the delay process and start the process immediately. (the display light will be red)
  • Press the “delay” button and the screen will be blue. 5.3.5. You can use the “set” button to view your delay time.
  • Protect function:
  • When the machine is on for 40 minutes without any keys pressed then it will automatically switch off.

Recycling

  • These electrical products, cables, batteries, packag-ing and the manual, should not be mixed with general household waste. For proper recycling, please take these products to your nearest Creative Housewares office where they will be accepted for recycling free of charge. 6.2. Alternatively, please contact your local authority or household waste disposal service for further details of your nearest designated collection point. Correct product disposal saves resources and prevents negative effects on human health and the environment.

Taurus guarantees that your product has been thoroughly inspected and tested before being dispatched and is free from mechanical and electrical defects and complies with the applicable safety standards. With every Taurus product purchased you get a 2 year warranty as detailed in the terms and conditions below.

First Year – 1 Year Retail Warranty:
Should defects due to faulty parts or workmanship develop, under normal domestic use, within 12 months from the original date of purchase please return the product to the store from where it was purchased for a refund or replacement.
Second Year – 1 Year Extended Warranty
Taurus takes pride in their product quality and therefore offer an extended 12 month warranty over and above the 1 Year Retail Warranty. Should defects due to faulty material or workmanship develop, under normal domestic use, after the 12 month period and within 24 months from the original date of purchase, please return the product postage pre-paid to Taurus for repair. Taurus will repair the product free of charge and return it to you directly. Taurus will replace a product with a similar product in the same or better condi-tion, if the repair cannot be conducted for whatever reason.
NB: The 1 Year Extended Warranty is only valid for custom-ers who have registered their warranty online at www. taurusappliances.co.za within the first year after making their purchase. See overleaf for details and instructions.
Before returning your product, check the following:
Your household mains supply socket is in good condition, working and switched on. The mains supply circuit is not overloaded (White trip switch on your DB board is off). You have read the trouble shooting guide in your Instruc-tions for Use. All accessories and parts are present.
The following conditions apply:
Please ensure you retain your receipt as this must be presented when making a claim under the terms of the guarantee. It is impossible to determine the guarantee pe-riod without proof of purchase, so please keep this in a safe place. (NB. Your guarantee can be scanned onto the Taurus web site for safe storage – see reverse side for details.)
If a refund or exchange is required the product must be complete with all accessories, parts and packaging. Miss-ing parts will render the guarantee void.
Upon receipt of your appliance, check it for any transport damage to ensure it is safe for use. Return it to the store as soon as possible for exchange if damaged. The guarantee is void if products are damaged after use, so please do not use the damaged product. Your product is designed for normal domestic household use. Failure to read and comply with the instructions for use, cleaning and maintenance will render your guarantee void, so please read these instructions carefully to ensure your safety, and to get the most effective use from the product. (e.g. not removing lime scale; water deposits; insect infestation, and/or burnt products) Any abuse, negligent, improper or accidental use or care will render the guarantee void and Creative Housewares (Pty) Ltd will not be liable for any loss or damage. Any attempted repair, or replacement of unauthorised parts will render the guarantee void, so please contact an authorised service centre or service agent for any service or repair requirements.
NB: The guarantee on replaced products will be from the original date of purchase and not from when the date replacement was made. All repairs carry a 3 month guarantee even if this falls outside of the 2 year guarantee period. Taurus will attempt to conduct repairs within reasonable time in line with industry standards but cannot be held responsible or liable for any circumstances not under our control.
Repairs Out of the Warranty Period
If service or repair becomes necessary outside the war-ranty period, this service is still available however all transport/postage, spares and labour costs will be for the customers’ account. All chargeable repairs will require the customers’ written acceptance of the quote. Once the go-ahead has been received Taurus will undertake to conduct the repair within a reasonable time and maintain the condi-tion of the product as received. All repairs are guaranteed for 3 months from the date of the repair. Please also note that the company is normally closed for 2 weeks around Christmas and New Year. Please send all products for repair postage pre-paid to one of the service centres listed on the back of this page.
